  • For some reason when I see Mac holding that lighter & dynamite stick bracing for the inevitable, I hear... "Last words..." "I can't lie to you about your chances." "But you have my sympaties." Ash, Alien.

  • It should be named "The Husky" because they show that dog all the time...

  • Don't they always do anything to survive?

  • Christ its even better than the new one!.

  • @thethingbobus Give the guy a break man Its was for his production class.

  • windows, TO THE WALL!

  • It's okay but it just doesn't creep me out like the original trailer does. You also don't have the signature theme and the typeface fonts would look a lot better sans serif IMO. Not bad for a school project but it just doesn't convey the feel of the film nearly as well as the old one does. You also show too much of the monster unnecessarily

  • Music was kind of overdramatic, but I definitely prefer the text rather than the voice-over of the original.

  • Damn! This is real cool. I must say. Of course it´s fanmade. But until now it´s the best fan-made-trailer I´ve ever saw on youtube. `Cause you didn´t took footages from another movies. This is really well done pal! Good Work!

  • Not bad, just it needed the actual THING theme. You know the one with the heartbeat.

  • Best horror ! :-)

  • i have the xbox game and its scary as hell

  • Pretty good man

  • the original before this was the best in storytelling. Carpenter kicked it up a notch in this one, and it was underscored and underrated, considering people giving it a bad review from the time it was in theaters. considering this was an assignment.....it was very exceptional. lots of credit is deserving, and i hope the prequel won't be a waste.

  • This trailer begins with, "In The Frozen Arctic"? The arctic is the north polar region. 'The Thing' takes place in Antarctica, in the south polar region.

  • CHECK OUT MY OTHER CHANNEL {THINGVISION}ALL ONE WORD ! SEE THE REAL WARROIR THOMAS WAITES! IN THING-FEST 2011

  • god damnest scariest ef'n movie I ever saw as a kid..

  • You did this right -- good job. Great movie.

  • this movie is amazing, please watch my shortfilm of mistery at antarctica in 3D!

  • the organism they described is closely related to Jews!

  • lol, Universal Studios didn't even have involvement with this amazing movie.

  • I'm sorry man but the music you've picked just SUCKS!!

Ennio Morricone's theme for the movie is BRILLIANT! It's like horror twisted into melody...Gives you the chills.Of all things, you've fixed the one that is far from broken..

  • Oh my god, you made the old into new!

  • Really good....

  • Pretty dang sharp. Love the end.

  • Feels ahead it's time, just like it was!

    Great Job!

  • @KingRepulsa I appreciate this. I once again call attention to the date of my original comment and wonder if this fact was known at that time.

  • It's good, but I feel like it gives too much away.

  • numbcore- true-- but it's nice "action" cut. I like it. Could make it a "suspenseful" "less is more" cut now. Reveal a little less like the re-do version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre trailer. Well done trailer, highly effective and it won awards in the trailer biz.

  • Nice work, but it doesnt really capture the darkness and despare that the movie holds imo. From this trailer it comes across as an action movie kind of.

  • Eine ganz großer Film !!!

  • i loved the movie and the game so i cant weat for the prequel

  • there are making a new thing

  • original trailer is way better...this music they use is ridiculous!

despite that, The Thing is the best horror movie ever made!!

  • @tiagocampos26 Your damn right!

  • Nicely done remake of the Trailer to one of the greatest horror movies of all time.

  • well done dude!

  • great old shool movie.

not the cheap computer effects from modern low budget horror

  • john carpenter is brilliant

  • looks funky

  • bet they have some stupid female interation bullshit in the remake.

  • atleast they made the game. right ?

  • they are remaking this mary elizabeth winstead is playing the main character it will be out in 2011 =)

  • @Theplaygirlbaby8 It's not a remake it's a prequel.

  • I have this phobia that if some thing goes in or comes out of a human that shouldn't, I get the feeling it' happening to me

  • i like the 1950's ending more. its epic

  • Good job, m8. Better than the orig. Can't wait to see the prequel coming next year.

  • LAME!!! The original trailer is far more effective!!!

  • i got the game and play first time when i was 7 i tell you its **** scary in the first times

  • that dog cage scene wull haunt me for the rest of my live

  • @TyrannosaurusRex97 probably what your English teacher says about you ;-)

  • Considering how god damn shallow hollywood has become, it'll be a borefest.

It'll have needless romance, love interest plot, something to tie in a political agenda and the same over rated actors who play the same characters in every fucking movie their in.

You want to see what todays Sci-Fi can accomplish? Don't watch a gold digging attempt.

    District 9

    Fuck avatar.

  • That was awesome!

  • as akward as this is going to sound this movie is a staple of my childhood, i will remember it forever

  • Masterpiece from the old school!!!!

  • i gotta ask but was this movie really scary? is it worth it to go buy it?

  • @1980Stargazer Def worth it. i enjoyed this movie alot and if i ever saw it in stores i wouldnt hesitate to own it myself xD

  • This movie traumatized me to the core! This is the best horror movie that cant be remade.

  • please hollywood, never remake this movie. you cant improve on perfection.

  • Bad news...I'm pretty sure you know what I'm gonna say...

  • yeah, i heard, lol. i'll still go see it but replacing rob bottins "thing" with some cgi shit wont have the same effect i fear.

  • @davidbowe

You are aware that this movie is already a remake of a hokey but good 1951 Sci-fi b-movie right called The Thing from Another World? back in the 50's it was a broken movie because they didn't have the time or tecchnology to do it justice and was good on it's own but a poor adaptation of the novel, Carpenter grew up with the original movie and novel as he remade it with his devotion to both.

  • @Johnlindsey289 of course i knew about the 50's movie. i've owned "the thing" on vhs,dvd and now blu ray which is an awesome transfer btw,so i do know the history behind it. i'm a big fan of horror movies both past present and just hope that the remake does john carpenters version justice but i wouldn't count on it.

  • @davidbowe

The new movie is a prequel, not a re-remake ok.

  • This scared the crap out of me when I was about 11. I agree about that era of horror film, but then again, we are always most affected by stuff we see when we are young. Cheers Carpenter, for giving me the bestest scare ever!

  • does anyone know, if there is The Thing 2 coming?

  • theres a prequel about the norweigian camp being made

  • there is ....but it is a prequel....google it ....you will find it

  • God this movie gave me a fear of dogs for years!

  • the beginning of the trailer sounds like the incredible hulk but then it seems to change to that of M Night Shyamalans signs.

  • great trailer u have nice taste

  • Good trailer, I mean in the modern style, give away half the story, but good nonetheless. I liked the mystery involved with the original

  • No offense but you have just defeated everything this film stood for. You showed to many pictures of the 'thing'. John carpenter wanted the monster creature alien to only be suggested not exposed but apart from that its a good trailer.

  • I dunno, look up Bravo's scariest movie moments on here. Carpenter says something about how the cliches in Hollywood "is to never show the face of the devil," and he wanted to do the opposite of that. The thing was shown a lot, he just waited to show it for a shock value and I think we can all agree...It worked, hahahaha!

  • @daliwndrland I know what you talking about. It was Stephen King. He said Do not show the face of the devil until the climax of the story, But if you have a creature so hideously scary then showing it is as equal.

  • Blake out!

  • bs bs

  • Nice trailer! Better than the original! I didn't know these clips were in the public domain so that you can post them on YouTube though.

  • This is one of my favourite movies EVER...

  • these things look like they came from the game "Dead Space"

  • Great trailer. The audio was a bit inconsistent, but you definitely made a good showing of the film without giving too much away.

  • Good job man, keep it up, made the movie alive again :)!

  • great work.

  • Good trailer but the overloud music and abundant cuts sort of undercuts a lot of the coldness, solitude, and paranoia that is present in the actual movie. The way that you have it makes the movie look like a sci-fi action bug chase.

  • The reason why we ignore the fact that The Thing was itself a remake is because Hollywood needs to learn NOT TO FUCK UP MOVIES THAT ARE ALREADY GOOD. They seem to have a serious problem with that.

  • nice trailer dude.

  • I love how we get annoyed about the possibility of a remake of this nearly thirty years later, while this itself was the remake of a film from thirty years prior.

  • I think what the hullabaloo might be is that even though this The Thing itself is a remake, it's a great film. And even though the original Howard Hawks version is also a great film, Carpenter's Thing is great in that it better reflects the tone and vision of John W. Campbell's short story.

  • @joelseph01

Well, it's also probably because horror movie remakes seldom being good.

    The Thing was fantastic though.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the prequel they're making.

  • @ThatMan0verThere

What about remakes based on movies that aren't terribly well known or beloved like The Crazies? a good example of a remake to a very little known movie

  • @joelseph01 Isn't is just based off thing thing from another world and that is based off something else? they are not technically remakes are they?

  • @Speednik

get your facts straight, the 2011 The Thing is a prequel.. not a remake ;)

  • @Pr0DlgY Something I clearly could have known two years ago.

  • @Pr0DlgY yeah, maybe you should get your facts straight

  • @Pr0DlgY And yet, it'll still ruin The Thing.

  • @Speednik They announced the new movie isn't a remake. It's a prequel about what took place in the Norwegian base.

  • @KingRepulsa Yes, it was known at the time. It's a common misconception that the Carpenter version was a remake of the 50's version. It wasn't. It was simply another adaptation of the same short story. Carpenter's version actually sticks much closer to the concepts of the original story. Would you call every version of a Sherlock Holmes movie to be a remake of the prior versions? Of course not, they're just re-interpretations of the same original source material. Same principle here.

  • @Speednik Sorry, @KingRepulsa, that comment was meant to be directed to Speednik. Damn YouTube's confusing new comment system layout...

  • @Speednik

    It's a prequel, not a remake.

  • @Speednik That's because in 1982 movies got better, now they just get worse, that's why.

  • @Speednik why because ALL the recent Horror remakes have been utter shite.

they aren't made by talented and imaginative directors with a great vision, they are commissioned by producers wanting an easy buck, knowing guaranteed sales with the right marketing.

You know what would be better? Re-release the original 2 films in cinema. That would be better.

  • @Speednik It's not a remake, although most people think that, it is the movie adaptation to "Who Goes There?" by John W. Cambell, It's a common mistake.

  • @DrRumstain As was the original Howard Hawks movie, a movie beloved of Carpenter, hence his desire to remake it, which he did.

  • @JeridanCork I know he loved the Howard Hawks movie (I also know that the Howard Hawks was an adaptation) but Carpenter did not just think of making the movie (although he wanted to), Universal brought it up for him and why anyone else, he loved the first movie and back then he was considerd the master horror with his movie Haloween (another great film.) Plus he didn't think he could top the Howard Hawks movie (in witch he did) so instead of remaking the Hawks movie he adapted the book.

  • @DrRumstain I shall defer to your superior Thing knowledge.

  • @JeridanCork Plus, I know you where going to say that,JeridanCork, because you where the only one who could get to those blood samples.

  • @DrRumstain Excellent :D

  • very nicely done !

  • Well done!

  • A remake!?! That's infinitely beyond BLASPHEMY!! Not only will it suck due to the bullshit MTV generation remakes that have been infecting the screen for the past 10years, i.e.- Dawn of the Dead, The Fog(another Carpenter classic destroyed), Hills Have Eyes,Texas Chainsaw,etc.. But due to the genius of Bottin in the original, they will try to out do the special effect and will plague the film with all the CGI they can muster. This project is doomed before it even starts!! JUST SAY NO!!!!!!

  • Dawn of the Dead was not that bad..... but the other movies you've mentioned - I'll agree.

  • I'm with you there, but saying that, a PREQUAL showing the events at the Norwegan Camp would be interesting !!!

But BOTTIN would have to do the THING itself with in-camera effects and a little CGI to blend it in like he said on the documantery !!!

Lets see how it pans out !!!

  • @negtype13

The Hills Have Eyes was a great remake. What do you think of go for the jugular horror like Hostel or Saw?

  • so whos remaking it in 2009?? if this is true just imagine the special effects ..paul

  • spread the word the thing is being remade in 2009 i am sorry if this pisses anyone off

  • spread the word the thing is being remade in 2009 i am sorry if this pisses anyone off

  • It's obvious you really love that flick.

But so does anyone with a common wit.

It's the best horror movie of all time.

  • I'll agree that John Carpenter's 'The Thing' (1982) is a brilliant film, not only in the Sci-Fi genre but in the areas of Horror, Paranoia, and Suspense also; but as for best horror movie of all time, I would still lean towards Ridley Scott's 'Alien' (1979). That's a masterpiece any which way you look at it, but The Thing still remains a classic.

  • Not bad. I still like the original much better though.

  • best horrer movie of all time! and my favorite!

  • What a classic! They don't make them like that anymore! :(

  • Absolutely true. From 1979 to 1991 were the finest Action, Suspense and Horror films. Here's a few:

Alien, Star Wars, The Thing, The Terminator, Die Hard, Aliens, Predator, Predator 2,Terminator 2: Judgement Day, etc.

  • love the trailer, excellent work joel.

  • good trailer

  • Looking good! Great trailer.

  • it's good film

  • super. very good.

  • Brilliant! Better than the original trailer! I haven't yet seen the film but this trailer has convinced me to see it! Great job!

  • there could be a Thing 2

  • thay are doing a thing 2 check it out

  • tecnically that it was the videogame

  • I want that there will be a remake to this movie, Imagine it with todays effects and some new scenes and a bit better story it would be the best horror movie of the year 2008.

  • remaking it in 2009

  • Shut up. Im serious. Hollywood will not make The Thing a better movie. They will completely shit all over it. The Thing of 1982 was the best adaption of the original short story and it should not be remade.

  • Great job for a production credit!

  • Better trailer, better music than the original trailer or movie. I sure had high hopes for this and, like so many Universal movies in the last 30 years, it just didn't deliver the goods.

  • nice quality

  • That tup tup tup tup sound like a heart makes the scenes eveen more scary..that's btw the scariest movie I have ever seen!!!

  • animaefan900 likes to put penis's in his butt and mouth!

  • "f^%# you animaefan900....Love Windows

  • Interesting way on creating a trailer for this cult classic, though it kind of ruins some of the suspense of the original trailer and the feel of "WTF is going on?!" Other then that, it was rather well made.

  • I wanna see this movie...what year is it??

  • 1982, dear sir or madam...I'm proud to say that was a good time for sci/fi, much like the late 90s. :-)

  • This movie came out when i was 12 years old...and I've been a Fan Since i'm now 36...and it is the GREATEST horror movie ever...the concept is GREAT....

  • Fucking aye, man! Animefan...you are a pussy!

I love Ennio Morricone's theme, though. It sounds so fucking evil!

  • animefan900 you are a chode smoking faggot! well i guess it doesn't surprise me,you do call yourself animefan900!

  • Sweet!!! ^^

  • i hate this movie it dosint even make siense it is pure nosiense it is gross yuck!

  • HOLY SHIT... It's amazing... i love it man... AMAZING!

  • AWESOME! That was absolutely fantastic - I loved it. Brilliant work. You are a THING fan extraordinaire!
