Some of the best uke playing ive heard. Stubled on a uke festival in a public park in honolulu about 14 years ago. (near the acquarium). Old men, little kids, lots and lots of people. Ill never forget it.
Hi Blotch..Remembering the good old days growing up with you as the baby, being taught to play the uke. Many of hours of Dad & you practicing songs after songs & boy do I remember this one..lol But practice makes you better and what an awesome ukelele player you have become..You are Our Father's son with his love & passion for this instrument,& yes it would be magical if our other 2 brothers could play something with you too. For I am Proud to be the big sister to all my Ohana.Luv U"TiTa Blotch"
I remember spending summers and school years grounded in the house. The punishment: playing ukulele. Back then, when you're a kid it seems like hell. Now I wish I learned all that Dad had to teach. I'd gladly stay in the house to learn everything I could! Now because of Dad
my passion as well as my understanding of the uke has grown beyond what I thought I could accomplish! Mahalo nui Dad! Love you Blotchie Blotch! ~Blotch~:D
Well now I know why your "Samick" uke looks just slighty different than mine, as well as sounding better too ... yours IS NOT A SAMICK! :-) I watched another one of your videos, and saw that you have an Oscar Schmidt uke. It sure does sound nice! My Samick looks as good, but doesn't sound as good. :-( Maybe it's because mine has a laminated top rather than a solid spruce top. Does your uke have the solid spruce top? Well, now I'm going to have to listen to more of your music ... very enjoyable!
Haha! The uke in this video is a Oscar Schmidt tenor uke. It is a solid spruce top, and bright strings for picking. I heard that Samick makes awesome ukes too! Thank you for the observations and comments! You're too kind! Aloha! :D
Is your uke a Samick? It looks just like my Samick UK-70, although yours doesn't appear to have the dot marker where the neck joins the body (which mine has). Is it a baritone uke, rather than a soprano (maybe that's the reason why)? I suspect that you probably play a lot of finger style guitar as well (maybe classical or flamingo)? Anyway, it was very enjoyable listening to you play! Your playing shows how nice a ukulele can sound in the right hands, EVEN WHEN the ukulele isn't a Martin! :-)
Thank you! I do a lot of picking, mostly instrumentals. In Hawaii Reggae is the thing but I don't like to be limited to any one style. I play ballads, rock, reggae, even rap on my uke. Of course that all comes behind my Hawaiian and Slack Key music which is where my foundation comes from. :D
Its what the very hardcore people do when they play a stringed instrument.... they grow their nails out on their right hand so they can use it as a pick.... lol its very creepy

ChipmunkMusic1 4 years ago 2
Weird nails make good music. One of the prerequisites for good plucking is funky dracula nails.

Yup. I don't like to use picks. You have a more direct impact on the uke if you do learn to use your nails. :D
