that was hella good! but i have to admit i think i like their new album better. at least i like it just as much as their old stuff. its easier to digest. and even if it isnt as crazy as before, damon said the reason he formed don cab was to make music he liked. and he likes it. theyre also getting really big, touring in europe and japan and what not.
Don Cab is nothing without Ian Williams. Damon may be one of the most prolific drummers in rock, but without Ian, him and his resurection of Don Cab are fucking terrible. Listen to Battles you idiot.
Battles is one of the most interesting bands out there now. "Mirrored" is a great album, with lots of secrets to be unfolded. Each time one listens the album, new parts come to light.
And (I think) that this is just the beggining. Their next album will be more cool that this one. I mean... Come on! Ian Williams, John Stanier... And dont forget Ty Braxton! (His 2002 solo record is simply amazing)
did you even bother to listen to his fathers recordings. oh yeah his dad is tony braxton. not the lame ass female r&b singer toni braxton. THE Tony Braxton!! do you ever research artists?!
I have been listening Anthony Braxton (not "Tony"!) for several years! Free jazz & free improv is a big part of my musical knowledge...
Tyondai Braxton has developed a great musical career WITHOUT his father`s shadow (He said this several times). He could have recorded something with his dad, but he choosed NOT to!
Now... Have you heard Ty`s 2002 solo album or not?!?!
jesus fucking christ! you are really easy to offend arent you? why is that? okay, take a deep breath. of fucking course i've heard his solo album. thats one of the reasons I was so excited about battles. Tyondai and Ian?! I was wearing diapers for weeks because I was shitting my pants waiting for the 1st ep to come out!
"Why do you ask ME some stupid shit like that??" ME?! who the fuck do you think you are? like anyone knows who YOU are. do you fancy yourself to be some sort of musical celebrity? It's not like I'm telling Steven Spielberg what kind of camera to use. get over it!
Celebrities suck. I have seen hundreds of guitar players, the best in the world (Stanley Jordan, Fripp, Vai, Satch, Frissell, Mclaughlin, Nels Cline, and a very, very big etc.).
And I found that the most amazing one lives a couple of blocks from my house! Totally awesome, a great composer, and a genius man!
And he is NOT a celebrity, man... That word is for fat chicks and slow minded fellas.
You wanna hear my music? Maybe I can send some to you... I`m sure that you will dig it.
yeah, uh, speaking of getting over it, you might learn to heed your own advice. this is n internet forum, brother, there's no need to get incenced over something as asinine as this...
I think that Damon & Ian found a musical balance between them. They are unique players in the fucking world. You must not forget Mike Banfield! (A fantastic guitar duo with Williams).
The new "Don Cab" album is really interesting. Sure, the new guitar players suck big time when they do an old tune (cheap imitators to me) but the record is way cool!
I've actually heard early recordings of the "new" don cab doing almost purely "old" don cab songs and they hit the nail on the head! not shitting you. you even commented on "that badge means you suck" and thought it was improv. you could say that ian and eric "sucked big time" during those songs but the truth is they perhaps aren't as great as you might think.
I mean I really have a great deal of respect for Ian and Eric but, if you've ever read the electrial audio forum there is a whole thread about the american don sessions. Ian wasn't very pleased with the tone or even some of the playing on that record.
Greg Norman from electrical audio: "There was nothing "one take" about that record. It was meticulously worked over with hundreds of overdubs, edits, and punches. They labored every end of it.
By the time they had finished touring on it, the 3 of them could play every note live.
They worked out a lot of the details in the studio".
Anyone who plays this kind of complex music knows that there is no room for mistakes. Miss one beat and you are gone, man! Specially if you work with loop pedals!
It really needs a lot of rehearsal time to play it right.
Ian is NOT a fantastic live performer. He misses some notes sometimes. But I can say this to you: He is an amazing composer! He sure took time to study scores from composers like John Cage, Steve Reich, Iannis Xenaxis, etc.
oh yeah dude, in my band, when i start looping stuff, its almost entirely a matter of luck, whether everything clicks and everyone can follow. Its great when it does, though
Well... It has been 6 months since your comment. And now? Did you manage to fit the time? Because looping is a very complicated thing in music. It requires a lot of concentration, specially for the drummer. But it`s fucking funny too! I just love it...

My mom was British so, a lot of people do actually tell me they think I have an accent, although, no one's said they thought it was fake, yet.

Another thing: Spielberg movies suck! Big money, pathetism, predictable screenplays.
If that is the kind of films that you watch...
Why do you always end up insulting and saying crazy & stupid shit in a conversation? Are you like this in the real world?
Come on, man! Who are you? Peter Griffin? Sure, and I`m Brian! Hahaha... Now, those two are really funny!

I remember Ian saying that "Damon Che has ruined the record". We all know how that relationship ended!
They weren`t pleased with Albini`s work. Obviously, "Am. Don" has a lot of studio work!
But that`s because it`s a really complex album, specially the guitar parts!
Sure, they could have done a slightly better work; but what the hell! It`s a musical masterpiece. You won`t find another record who gets close to it!

wellllll yeah. i'm now in a band with a drummer that can follow the loop. which is good.

though i notice, even in these videos, ian's loop getting ahead a lot of the time, but the ensemble adapts well.
