I am from France but I must say the Warsaw Pact had one of the greatest militaries ever. NATO had better Navy and maybe air, but Warsawpact had HUGE land army. Poland back then was very powerful. Along with Eat Germany, Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria all had powerful land armies capable of fighting West Europe alone.

@mily357 the myth? most warsaw pact countries were still using MiG 19-21s while NATO was beginning to use the F-16? Russia, the most powerful warsaw pact country, was using a MiG 27 in the 70s.. We didn't stand a chance vs NATO
now that being said, while poland might of had a large number of tanks and aircraft, they were so much weaker than the NATO tanks/aircraft that it wouldn't matter

Depends how you look at it. The reason that the Polish rebelled was because there were mass stalkings of people by the government, murders of opposition and little freedom. Now that they don't have any of that, its worse than a nightmare. There's no economy, no money, no army, nothing. Its just a big black hole.
Most Polish people dislike Russia though, no because of the Warsaw Pact mainly but because of things like Katyn Massacre and historical grievances before that.

I'm Polish and I hate communism but I never hated Russia. Today USA is collapsing, Poland still doesn't have peace treaty with Germany (70 years!!!) so the only way out is good relationship or even military pact with Russia.

Yes they had volunteers in SS from Ukraine and Russia, they even had Ukrainian and Russian SS regiments such as 29th and 30th Waffen SS Grendier regiemtns plus Cossak cavarly regiments. Dont forget ROA (Russian Liberation Army) and UOA, both fougth for nazi germany and were technical SS.

I'm Polish and I hate communism but I never hated Russia. Today USA is collapsing, Poland still doesn't have peace treaty with Germany (70 years!!!) so the only way out is good relationship or even military pact with Russia.

Nope USA is not collapsing, its under control of fresh president Barack Obama who hasnt been long in the office, now he has a chance to prove his usefulness, and hes making a good start, for instance he began re-forming the medical system in USA which will be BIG improvement. No USA is not collapsing and everyone is effected by the Ecomic Crisis, including Russia, which is actualy effected by it quite badly from what i heard.

The only outcome of that silly exercise was the rift that was created between Prague and Moscow, not to mention the sense of unrest and lack of trust amongst the other Pact states. Incidentally, Romania was the only country that refused to participate.

Yes they had volunteers in SS from Ukraine and Russia, they even had Ukrainian and Russian SS regiments such as 29th and 30th Waffen SS Grendier regiemtns plus Cossak cavarly regiments. Dont forget ROA (Russian Liberation Army) and UOA, both fougth for nazi germany and were technical SS.
