This video is FULL of fail. 1. It assumes the 'love' system was developed to share a bond between only TWO individuals. 2. It labels Obama as 'risk taking"
So, everything "happens" with you and your conscious level or the content of shared thoughts does not matter...I think I need to defend myself from love then. In this scenario love is just another string of chemical reactions, is determined by factors outside your conscious evaluations, thoughts and feelings - in fact these are not yours either, but are produced by auxiliary causes as well....Well, if this is the case, I do not wish to ever be in love again,
@eydos So if you like something, but you understand everything about it, then it's worthless? I know the ingredients of chocolate, therefore I will never have chocolate again, because it affects me by activating the pleasure center in my brain.
@Blackhawk1913 Not really. I just do not like this particular answer. If "loving" is no longer an act of a conscious agent, if it happens to you automatically because some chemicals popped into action without you having a say in the matter, then the actions you perform afterwards renders your consciously thought out motivations mere epiphenomena, mere byproducts of an essentially self-independent machinery. After all I, who dislike this, play no active role in its unfolding.
@eydos But even your consciousness is the reaction of chemicals and electrical impulses, so really you don't have free will, even when consciously making decisions. I understand that you'd like to be able to consciously control your emotions.
@Blackhawk1913 That consciousness is or is not merely epiphenomena is still debated. I also wrote my philosophy graduation paper about an emergent non-reductive theory of mind.
as mxcreations said: tiger woods doesn't seem to be builder, rather an explorer. speaking in keirsey's terms an explorer would be an artisan. Furthermore, Bill Clinton seems to be rather an explorer than a negotiator (= idealist in keirsey temperament theory): according to Ray Choiniere there has never been an idealist president (you can find his video about presidential temperament through typing in "Ray Choiniere" in the searchbar)
I don't share any characteristics with any of these personalities except for that of the negotiator (highly introspective, empathetic, passionate, communicative), but I would not put myself in that category at all because the other half of the negotiator's characteristics are completely foreign to my personality. I don't like this sort of simplistic personality labeling-- she really needs to add more categories and refine them. I'm sure she realizes that people aren't cookie cutter, but PLEASE
This is so frustrating because I don't fall into any of the categories, I took the test and even HER test told me 'none'. Because I'm a balance of all 4.... what does that say about me? But she doesn't mention that.
@XCentauri It would seem that it's not necessary to specify same sex or opposite sex relationships. It's not a gender issue, it is a personality issue. What I've seen of gay friends and acquaintances is that the same combinations happen as in heterosexual relationships. The only time she mentions men versus women is in talking about Directors and Negotiators for the fact that there is a majority proportion between the sexes there. She does make a point of that in her book Why Him, Why Her.
40:37 she says ♂ director goes for ♀ director, actually chart shows ♂ director goes for ♀ NEGOTIATOR, 13%. whew, for a minute there i thought it came out no one attracted to female negotiator! :'s
Just in case your videos in future will have text on the screen as well, could you make your logo a little smaller? It's a little gripe, but I couldn't read some of the chemical names at times.
I'm impressed by the thorough research Helen and her team completed, and this is presented in an interesting/practical fashion for such a vague and under-researched (in a truly scholarly aspect); I must point out two issues:
Proposing that a persons' physical build is in any way linked with their personality significantly lacks scholarly credit. Her own theory that circumstances and maturity can cause people to change from one personality to another discredits this notion.
Secondly, using the photo of McCane to support her theory of finger length being associated with levels of testosterone/estrogen (and thus a specific personality) is fallacious - the angle of the picture and the way McCane is gesturing doesn't provide an accurate measurement of each of his specific finger length(s); using physical characteristics (i.e. length of fingers, etc.) has long been discredited in the scientific field unless applied to a field of physical anatomy.
I challenge the notion that the "most highly educated group" is the "Explorer". Is it possible that what she is actually saying is that Explorers are more likely to be involved in "esoteric learning" as opposed to practical learning? There is a not-so-subtle bias involved in her descriptions, particularly when she counts herself and Obama as Explorers. I would think that she might also add the geniuses in the "Jackass" movies to the same group ... as they are most certainly Explorers as well.
wow. i was watching her go through her personality category spiel wondering how someone so smart could divide people into such plutonian nonsense. then she got to the last one, the negotiator, and it perfectly describes me. i'm very impressed.
I can't say I fit into any of the categories. Odd, for I thought I would.
