  • very interesting thanks

  • some really good stuff here

  • boris really reminds me of matt lucas if he had hair

  • boris really reminds me of matt lucas if he had hair

  • According to chaos theory every windmill built changes the climate by initiating strong southerly winds hence warming the Planet even more.

  • At 6:45 - George eats it. I can't stand people like this guy who think they're winning and then you have to explain life to them. Duh... take it as a "given" that the source would be "renewal" for that would be the only way it would be 0% carbon. He is not Mr Johnson's intellectual equal.

  • Boris knows his onions, that's for sure. It is, indeed, difficult for journalists to get the upper hand because he is a non-stop machine able to do research endlessly and he is also a "solution oriented" individual who happens to have been a journalist himself and won't lose that inquisitive nature. I'm voting for him in 2012 just because he DOES listen and he DOES take it onboard what people say.

  • George for mayor!

  • People like Monbiot will send us back to the dark ages..

  • Boris is great

  • That was a draw.

  • Comment removed

  • haha Boris absolutely destroyed George Monibot! He must watch this back and feel rather embarrassed.

  • @ensian13 nah Manbiot's analogy made sense, which Borris realised at the end. They both gave a coherent point of view, neither was defeated. It was a draw.

  • BARRISTER LONG DEFENDANT

  • According to monbiot overpopulation is fine, nuclear power is fine and technology will enable infinite capitalist expansion ;A total arsehole;the chris hitchens of environmentalism;Monbiot le merde!

  • If you're really serious about reducing consumption of fossil fuels, you should be looking at removing arbitrary timing on traffic lights and removing unnecessary traffic light installations. You'd reduce fuel consumption by about 20% and get to work quicker. Or how about enforcing single rate charging on domestic fuel so that 70% of your fuel bill isn't spent on service and low consumption rate charges. Oh hang on I forgot this the Guardian.

  • @KnockoffNigeI Where did you get 20% from!

  • @KnockoffNigeI - I know you posted 4 months ago but I have to say that is an excellent comment. Most people don't realise that the majority of their fuel bills go toward ADMIN.

  • 4.13: Maybe Monbiot should ask the same of Al Gore?

  • Monbiot is a journalist, 3 yr degree....anyone cant write or talk opinion pieces. Why doesn't Monbiot argue with geological scientists and people who know that the world has been warmer in the past....before human influence. The guy's a dick.

  • Monbiot mean 'MORON'

  • @MikkkkyB MikkkyB mean 'MORON'

  • Will someone tell this Monbiot guy about Global cooling.

  • climate change my a--e the earth and the other planets go through these different cycles there normal these winters were this cold 30 years ago and remember the hot summer of 76 the drought there normal ,,,the other planets in our solar sytem are going through changes with inc volcanic acc and bad weather ,,, this climate change rubbish is another excuse to throw a green TAXon us sting the working class man again open your eyes people these summers and winters are normal go back thirty year ago

  • @ThePoleshift2012 Remembering back '30 years or so' is irrelivant... The people working to understand this have measurements and stuff ranging over thousands of years, millions of paramiters, and they know about the different cycles the climate goes through, and take this into account...

As Monbiot says elsewhere the scientific consensus on this is as strong as on HIV causing Aids, and smoking causing lung cancer...

  • LOL CLASS STRUGGLE RHETORIC!!! 6:37

  • Al Gore = monumental liar.

  • And the jets keep flying.

  • Actually don't worry about it, I think its Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve

    Thanks anyway

  • What is the song at 1.47-2.00, driving me nuts, please help

    cheers

  • Its all a lie folks. Its all a lie.

  • It's like listening to two clergymen arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

    Idiotic.

Global warming - oops, sorry, it's "climate change" now that the warming has stopped, isn't it? - is a complete SCAM.

These two clowns are arguing - and producing large quantities of "hot air" - about a non-existent entity. Each has his own political/ideological agenda. Neither is interested in the facts or the science.

  • Big SVs does not mean more polution. There are SUVs which produce less CO2 than some cars.

  • Johnmacward - I'm looking for a solution that is viable, and not one that just makes assumptions. A person should pay for the amount of damage that they're doing, and not for damage they could potentially be doing. It's like being guilty before actually committing the crime. Therefore a levy on usage would in my opinion be the fairest solution. It could even be part of the MOT process.

  • "You have to harness the egos of politicians." Says Boris. Oh, the irony.

  • I'm pretty disappointed with George there.I don't understand why he had to use social class and that example of the war to defend Ken Livingstone's congestion charge on 'gas guzzlers'. In fact I don't see why someone with a high polluting vehicle has to pay more for tax etc if they are driving 2 miles a day when someone with a 1.1L drives 150 miles a day has to pay less. Why cant we tax on usage rather than tax those that we perceive to be the biggest polluters. And by the way I don't own a car.

  • @zidaneistheking Whats the likelihood that of someone who spent significant amounts of money on a large SUV just doing two miles a day. I highly doubt it. I mean come on.

  • @zidaneistheking well this is supposedly the Manchester Guardian.

  • misguided fodder.

  • total bollocks. as if anyone is this stupid... fuck the world if this is for reals.

  • they would agree to anything where a free jolly is on offer, i could answer the question "whats the cleanest city", the answer is none of them they are all corrupt & rip off the general public, this climate change rubbish is just a licence to rob people of yet more money on the back of a global fraud, when the people turn when the truth comes out he`ll be one of them getting his nuts nailed to the wall.

  • boris is the best!

  • lol boris rules

  • AGW is a con, this is a wasted video and cause

  • Boris Johnson says:

Would a zero-carbon Porsche destroy morale as well..?

    George Monbiot says:

    Noo...

    The End :)

  • A zero carbon Porsche doesn't exist. Thats Monbiots point. Boris's argument was not grounded in reality, as the reality is, if you ARE struggling on a bike, you will NOT be passed by 0 carbon 4WD's, but 4WD's consuming carbon based fuels.

  • Boris is the man. A legend.

  • newcjon - yes we should attack people with a massive carbon foot print by abolishing this fucking shithole of a capitalist system.

  • You mean the capitalist system whose natural emphasis on innovation has given you the mobile phone, the internet, computers, Ipod and I phone. These companies don't create these products out of altruism, they doso because of the profit motive. If you really hate capitalism, give up the internet and all of your technological gadgets and stop buying stuff from companies. Supply and demand dipshit. You pay a company for a good e.g. internet, and it provides for you, dirty little hypocrite

  • Mick - how did you come to the conclusion that socialism = anti-technology and progress? The ? is progress to what ends? Corporate needs or human needs??

The current system of economics, particularly the latest stage of turbo-capitalism, known inoffensively as neoliberalism, is built upon painful boom-and-bust cycles fuelled by corporate greed and maintained by cynical deception of the public. The costs to the planet in terms of human suffering and environmental collapse are staggering.

  • It appears you labor under the delusion that we have had 'neoliberalism.' Of course the profit motive drives technological progress. Einstein didn't create his theories because of government diktat. I should clarify I don't refer to profit in a purely monetary sense, which is a mistake that my capitalist comrades make, as intellectual and emotional profits are just as important. Perhaps we could continue this debate over the private message system because 500 words is too short

  • mick if you dont think we have just gone through a period of laissez-faire capitalism over the last 30 years with deregulation, the privatisation of the public sector and the mass transfer of wealth from the working to ruling class, feel free to explain your understanding of how things are and how they came to be.

    cont

  • You can massage it however you want to sterilse its effects but profit is the essence of the capitalist system in the accumulation of surplus value (capital) produced by labour.

I think even to you it should be obvious that in a world with finite resources, such a system where growth is not linear but exponential, it has a limited life span.

  • The Internet was an open standard. The technologies that it was created on were not made by a single company. The science behind it, and behind much technology was not developed by capitalism. Our most important discoveries, the ones which have impacted our quality of life the MOST were not done by private enterprise for the profit motive. The argument that without capitalism we would have nothing is complete hogwash.

  • @BoraxMan25 I think the technology that has changed the world the most in the last 20 is computing, an industry which epitomises market capitalism. And the internet; we wouldn't have youtube or facebook unless someone was making a profit out of it.

  • well,he did it again.charmed George's pants off &made me laugh....

  • If you are out to describe the truth, leave elegance to the tailor.

"If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right.

Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality. "

  • Fucking

upper class twat.Enough about Moonbat ,Boris is the Guvnor!
