Why do i think this conversation is all bullshit. There has to be more to this story, dont want none of my friends and family going to war for some piece of shit reason. Who the fuck is John bolton and i wanna hear about the Russians story THEMSELVES. I cant beleive my own fuckin country are acting like little kids practically saying" there the bad guys"
This is rubbish. If FoxNews were a decent and thorough news channel they'd critically inspect the intentions of Saakashvili. Playing political chess using tanks and human lives against a smarter opponent with bigger tanks and more lives to spare in hope that the US would cover their back is quite simply asinine.
There was no "aggressive action" on Russia's part.
Georgian conflict: Georgia attacked Ossetia. Russia sent in peacekeepers two days later to defend Ossetian population and stop Georgian masssacre of civilians.
Polish "missile shield:" U.S. putting missiles in Poland to supposedly defend against Iran despite obvious anti-Russian context.
Ukrainian NATO membership: another step in encircling Russia.
The real thugs are the U.S. gov't. for this propaganda. Let the flag for hypocrisy fly high.
Anyone can make military action seem innocent when you call soldiers peacekeepers. Russia responded with unneccesarily overwhelming force and was defiant in bowing to international pressure.
Explain in which context Russia is the target of the missiles? Like you've said, the Cold War is over and there is no need to "surround Russia"
Let me remind you that Bolton is entitled to his opinions, and the US govt does not endorse the free speech of this man. Something you won't find in Mother Russia.
Considering the fact that Russian soldiers protected civilians from Georgian massacre, that is peace-keeping in my view. Don't believe Russia protected the peace? BBC reported on the situation, it was in fact Georgia that attacked Ossetia, 80% of which hold Russian passports, and that was not FORCED on them. The fact that some people want to have Russian citizenship should not be ignored. Even if Ossetians that were killed were not holders of Russian passports, it would have been wrong to sit
Cold War may be over, but the U.S. made needless provocations, like the missile shield, threats to imprison Timoshenko for her opposition of Ukraine's NATO membership, etc. It makes me feel that some Russophobes still hold office whose main goal is to destroy Russia.
Don't get me wrong, I wish for nothing more than friendship before Russia, Europe, and America, but some don't want that peace, hence the actions of the current administration in the U.S.
Another thing, America calls its soldiers "peacekeepers" all the time in attempts to make its actions seem innocent. So its okay if America starts a war, an unjust one, but when Russia does something out of good will, suddenly they're the bad guys? Double standard.
And I don't know if you actually know anything about Russia, we have the same freedoms as you. The propaganda they say about our country being a bonafide totalitarian dictatorship are not true, hence why I live there and love it.
If you would like the real story of what happened in Ossetia, NOT PROPAGANDA, I have an unedited report by the BBC made on this conflict that disproves all of what Bolton says here.
The vid is unbiased, it also gives Russia criticism where it's needed. I just want the truth out and to stop this needless bashing of my country. Send me a private message if you're interested.
Nice spin. you are right, Georgia did make a stupid move, but Russia (an autocratic state) was no doubt looking for an excuse...just like how it LEVELED Grozny... more died in the caucuses than in Iraq in the last 5 years (the laters still being a very stupid war of choice...no one can argue that).US is putting interceptor missiles in Poland, not first strike missiles. Again, i do not see the reason for it.Russia is rather weak...no need to worry about them.let the EU negotiate for their gas.
Lol who the fuck do these Americans think they are, talking as if they the US is the most ethical and caring country in the world, yeah Russia invaded Georgia(well first Georgia tried to take provinces in Russia but anyway) but the US invaded Iraq and thousands of civilians have died because of this, how can they talk about Russia in this manner when their country invaded another one less than a decade ago?!
But we aren't putting offensive missiles in their "backyard," we're putting defensive patriot missiles, which are only used to shoot down offensive missiles. And eastern European countries like Poland want them because of Russia's invasion of Georgia they feel their security is in jeopardy. The only reason Russia's complaining is because it could no longer bully its neighbors.
80% of the Polish population voted against the missiles. Just like 60% voted against NATO membership for Ukraine, and how the opposition to Saakashvili's American-established leadership is kept in line with daily beatings from the police force.
Russia does not bully its neighbours. You would only like to believe it does. The Cold War is over, get with the fucking times. Russia never invaded Georgia, it's a proven fact that Georgia attacked Ossetia and Russia sent soldiers to protect.
Once again I'm gonna say WHEN these statistics were taken is important. If you talk about during the Georgian conflict, you see greater public acceptance of missile defenses.
I'm aware that the Cold War is over, but I don't know what Russia thinks. If Russia is going to be a bitch about European-American cooperation, its only because it is upset at losing influence over its neighbors to NATO. Even if Ossetia was invaded, Russia had no right to intervene at the level that it did.
Russia did the right thing. Georgia was massacring civilians, Russia was the only nation that stepped in, and that was two days after the missiles were fired on the Ossetian capitol.
Those statistics are quite modern, look it up. That's the reason I said Ukraine's 60%, opposed to NATO, because last year the number was higher.
Russia is only bitching about the encirclement that's going on. America is making threatening gestures and expects Russia to sit idly by. They need to get with the times.
I usually, in overall, favour the so-called 'soft' EU approach in diplomatic negotiations rather than the US tendency for the heavy hand. Yet in the case, maybe Bolton makes a reasonable point. Had the French brokered ceasefire agreement succeeded, that would be ideal. But where moderation has failed, unified and proactive western steps are required. That said, I think the cause of the breakaway's independence is worth noting, but not for them to become pawns in Putin's 'Great Game'.
Is it appropriate for the former ambassador to the UN to be speaking in this manner on cable news? He is certainly taking full advantage of the "revolving door" (as did Karl Rove w/ FNC).
No, I'm just unbias and not indoctrinated to think my country or my allied nations governments are always above ethical behaviour no matter what. Just found out today that the Georgian defense minister is an Israeli citizen and that Israel as well as the US have been training the military.
oké that is weird. but the russians are going to far with there steling georinaan civilian and militairian belongings. but what is wrong reclaiming part of you one country back form rebels and the illegial russian pasport disdripution are wrong
The thing is it wasnt part of their country,it was part of the Soviet Union & when that collapsed those regions didnt want to be part of Georgia. There is a lot of misinformation going around in the US/UK press.Russians were not looting, they were trying to stop militias doing that and the passport distribution was voluntary over years.Georgia is land locked the port that Russia controls is not Georgian.I think they have the right to destroy military equipment offensively used on civilians.
what has this man done well? why would anyone consider his opinion. Isn't it the purpose of an ambassador to maintain good relations with other countries.
The coverage of this by the corporate media has been outright false. Nearly every article and TV news segment begins with accusations of Russian aggression concealing the fact that the Georgian Army bombarded and invaded the capital of South Ossetia one full day before the first Russian even tank crossed the border. By the time the Russians arrived, the city was already in a shambles and thousands were dead. This is pure neoconservative propaganda.
this vid is like a car wreck, you know its awful but you cant look away....
those guys could have done so well in 19..
diplomacy is a weakness in their eyes, only hard rethoric is what they know, these idiots seem to think that their military can do everything everywhere everytime, which it of course cant, as we see in iraq e.g.
only because europe FINALY achieved peace on the continent and therefor their military budget isnt as outragesly high as that of the us, doesnt make them weak
Um what the fuck is the American media talking about? and why are they so backwards from most countries? IT WAS GEORGIA that attacked first and attack and bombed Russian civilians in South Osseta... why in America is there such ignorance?
You are looking at what American news media has become. To think it is this way out ignorance is to miss that it is this way by design. Their role, especially Fox (Rupert Murdoch + Roger Ailes), is to serve the neoconservative agenda. Truth is irrelevant.
Gee, I can't imagine why anyone would hesitate to add unstable countries to NATO. And how are the weak European countries our strongest allies? Strong meaning yes men? Craziness.
Good that sombedy noticed that! we may not be the biggest or the strongest ally the US got in the world, but surely, we are loyal and honest in what we stand for. and we won't crawl before the russians like some french or germans.

jplumads: Russia has saved thousands of Osettians from being purged from their homeland or killed. Russia does not occupy Georgia outside the two conflict areas.
