I taught Tayyiba and her brother, Arshad, years ago at San Joaquin Elementary School when they were in 4th grade. Over 30 years of teaching they, and their parents, stand out as some of my very favorite people ever. When I saw Tayyiba in the Olympics it wasn't that big of a surprise. She is one of the 4 most gifted athletes I have been lucky enough to teach, and even then she was an awesome volleyball player. She still seems just as down to earth and sweet as ever.
