Yet, they are still celebrated as being some of the best musicians of all time. Taking drugs and being a great musician often go hand in hand, so drugs isn't really a good reason to hate someone.

Often rehab doesn't do anything for anyone. Once you have an addiction, that's it. Life isn't the same. Clearly Winehouse, just like Hendrix etc. surrounded herself with the wrong people. When you're that famous everyone wants a piece of you and drugs are very readily available in the music industry. It's not easy to escape. It's not as easy as just saying, "she has the money, so she should just get over it." Part of the problem is that often these people don't think they have a problem.
Yep. And the people who dissed her will be proven wrong (they already are). She is being remembered for her music, and I can only imagine that the legend will grow. Her album sales have rocketed, and all of a sudden everyone loves her, including the people who used to complain about her. She was a great, great singer and songwriter. I'm deeply saddened about her passing. It's a terrible shame, but the music she did release was wonderful. It is about quality, not quantity.

I was listening. I wasn't saying that he was ASKING for self-destructive rockers, just that in my flawed opinion Amy Winehouse had more talent and actually wrote some songs with personal meaning, as opposed to whomever she was being compared to in a previous post. To me, 'playing from the heart' is intertwined with being a real person, so to speak. Hannah Montana is not a real person, and no one ever accused her of playing from the heart, right? I hope that clarifies my earlier statement.

I know an intelligent man when I hear one, if I know only one thing, it is that. His acting and comparisons can be extreme but you miss the point - it is the expression of a true personal frustration and longing to provoke the human race into activity - where other comedians say similar things because it is what they think we want to hear, Bill Hicks screams from the bottom of his heart and it is moving. Let me remind you - I am English and have no tolerance for 'wet' humour, this is special.

I don't know if Bill Hicks is smart. I don't get that vibe from his low brow comedy. He does seem to know how to yell though. I often think, what would it be like if we all 'expressed our true personal frustration' in such a personly demeaning and quite humorless way. Probably nothing good. Why is it moving though? Besides, if you have looked into his material you'd know that he hardly ever shouts like he does in this video. And, the "making a fool of himself" isn't fair at all. ALL comedians if you decide to look at it that way, make total fools of themselves on stage heck isn't that the basis of comedy from ancient greek plays even? Witness george carlin talking about "pussy farts".. If you were a humourless twat you could see that and go "oh he's making a fool of himself" but luckily, most of us aren't.

I have watched alot of bill hicks stuff. His early bits were okay, but once he got really big his act went to hell. I don't think good comidians make fools of themselfs. Take Mich Hedberg for example, he never did any thing as embarassing as that.

That is a talent, she is the only one I expressed any admiration for. I know who Michael Bolton is and I don't like him. Don't put words in my mouth.
