I actually sent you(CS) and email last year suggesting that you make one of these becuase I have the full size it was a little to big to carry everyday. I can't remeber if I ever got a response, but I will probably have to pick one of these bad boys up. Thanks CS!!!!!!!
@Chrisgarelli2 the MSRP is $104.99 but the release date has yet to be announced. Please check our website (or follow us on facebook or twitter) as we will be announcing the release dates there. Thanks :)
this was the perfect knife that i have been waiting for. in fact i was gonna buy 3, one for me, my brother and father as we are all involved in military or LEO. then i saw at the bottom of the page "handles made of faux G-10". really??? why? did you guys run out of G-10?
@csknives It seems like all the triads have the same spring strength on all of them, so the big blades (like rajah 2) seem easier to actuate than, say a Mini AK, which seems a bit too strong for the size. Have you guys thought about using different strengths for different sizes of knives to account for the different lengths of the locking bar away from the pivot point? I hope that was clear haha.
@armedtetrapod The entire knife, from blade to handle (and all of the elements that make up the locking mechanism) is custom designed for each model. That's all the info I will give out.
Love many of your knives Lynn. Thanks to CS i got into knives and i really want the new 4" Recon 1 spearpoint and these mini Recon's and the Secret Edge. When will these be available? Don't understand why some complain of shred pockets? Never had a issue with that, what pants do they wear? silk? thin woman pants? And some sandpaper can help to. And would you ever consider to make limited sprint runs or so, like a recon 1 or lawmen in s30v or VG10?
Hey Cold Steel, been deciding for a long time on my next EDC, it has taken many hours of research and i have chosen (with no surprise) You're Rajah 3. Pardon my french but that thing is fucking awesome. Now i just gotta get paid. >_<
@RENOGUY777 nice choice. Awesome knife. Keep it oiled and treat it right and that knife will be with you for life, there for you when you need it. A great workhorse. Thanks fore choosing Cold Steel. Have a great day :)
@hipenergy We've been proving every claim we make for 30 years, and for 30 years we've been encouraging our competitors to do the same. We do our tests so that you can see the performance for yourself and make an educated choice in your purchase. If you want to see tests by our competitors I suggest you ask them to make them.
I own over 200 folding knives all of them high dollar U.S., Japanese and Italian made except for about 8 Cold Steel knives that are made in Taiwan. You know what knife I NEVER leave the house without? My Recon 1 Tanto. I just want to say you guys are doing it right. If you found a factory here in the U.S. to make the Tri-Ad knives for you even at a 20-40 percent higher price point there would be absolutely no reason to ever buy another brand of folder ever. Please make some U.S. made stuff.
@TheSchnozwanger we spent over $700,000 and 5 years trying to make our knives in the USA but it wasn't viable at the time. I have no doubt if the opportunity arose again, Lynn would jump at the chance. In the meantime we have the toughest quality control tests in the industry and we continue to uphold our motto of World's Strongest Sharpest Knives. Thanks for choosing Cold Steel. We are proud of our reputation and we take the responsibility of quality control very seriously. Have a great day :)
the list of knives i want just keeps getting longer and longer lol. knife reviews are gona be the death of my bank account. but i look forward to pickin this one up
@csknives im sorry but the one flaw in cold steel products are their pocket clips; they are too tight and the pressure against the g10 make it very hard to put into your pocket, and then u shred your pockets when you take it out
@csknives you guys make excellent knives but the only imperfection on all your g10 knives is the issue addressed by those 2 fellows above. however i dont think its the pocket clip, its the g10. it is way to rough...if you guys can make the g10 checker less "rough" then all your knives will be perfect =)
@6leafdom our G10 is intentionally grippy. there are no plans to change that any time soon. Our knives are for tough work in inclement conditions where grip and control are essential with a razor sharp knife. One of the things we receive the most praise for (from Military and Law Enforcement personnel in particular) is the strong secure grip they can get on our knives. I'm sorry if you find it is too rough for your personal use, it can easily be sanded though. I hope that helps
@csknives Not sure why knife makers don't make the material right under where the clip touches the g10 a smooth material so the knife can be removed more quickly. Is that a bad idea or something?
@TheCharlie411 It's designed to grip. We have had exceptional feedback from both Military and Law Enforcement personnel for this very reason. The pocket clip is adjustable and can be loosened if that's your personal preference, but the aim of the clip is to keep it secure in your pocket
@csknives build another knife for us common people. I'll buy 20 of them. I'm not sure but my guess is that there are more knife buyers that are civilians than active military etc, 2ndary market?. I did Desert Storm myself USMC so I know how it is to be in the field. A different clip isn't an entire new knife design. It's only the mold that produces the clip and if you decided to put some smoother material under where the clip hits the handle that's should be too hard for a company like CS.
@csknives I put in a suggestion. Go to CS forums and see that others have had the same issue and no one thinks loosening the screws is a good idea. MM60 has the best fix. You can take a look at his suggestion on his response to the "clip issue" in General discussions on CS forums. MM60 is 100% correct. Unfortunately I'll need to put in some work to modify the knife, them it will be 100% my favorite. Don;t like modifying a brand new out of the box knife, oh well
@csknives you shouldnt have to loosen, modify, or bend a knife that you paid over a hundred dollars for, its just as easy for cold steel to manufacture a different pocket clip design to please the consumer instead of telling them to fix it themselves. I personally love the g10s grip, but even on my ti lite it is very difficult to get in and out of pocket because of the strong pocket clip
@THECRACKERJACKOFF The tension on the pocket clip is down to personal preference; it's designed to be adjustable. I've never adjusted my clips and have never had any problems but I understand that everyones experiences and preferences differ. If you feel it's a feature that needs amending at a design level you can email customer services and submit the idea. We are always happy to hear design suggestions and to get feedback. Their contact info is on our site. Thanks and have a great day :)
Lynn, love the knives! But bro you gotta come up with some small fixed blade belt knives for concealment/backup. Some people don't want to trust a folder, and in a high-stress situation people may be able to use a fixed better than fumbling with folders. I'm looking for an all purpose workhorse, small, concealable, handy, comfortable belt knife. The problem with some of the stuff available is the sheaths suck or are too big, knife too heavy (or too light!). Or they don't conceal right etc etc.
In regards to your locks, I agree completely. The locking system is becoming a seriously overlooked component in quality knives today, and your locking system is the best on the market, hands down. Honestly, if you sold the patent rights to the lock system alone to competing knife makers out there, you could make enough to retire everyone who works for your company.
The weight and size of the previous recon 1s were what kept me from buying them, but the smaller version looks convenient to have, for both EDC and self-defense.
come on you guys, cold steel is an awesome company, not necessarily better than any other companies (Benchmade, Sog, Kershaw ect), but they still have some really cool products, like the recon 1, or ak-47 knife. I think its cool that they are making a smaller version of this knife.
I dig the blades. I was going to buy an American Lawman, but I think this is what I want now. The spear point is a nice design. The larger Recon 1s are too big for EDC I think. This looks like it fits the bill. If you have a Bushman I recommend wrapping the handle with wax string. It works well for me. And for all the trolls on here, if you don't like Cold Steel you can change the channel. They make quality blades at reasonable prices. My Bushman never let me down in the military.
and also...how the hell is a knife going to fold and "cut your fingers off"?? if you are always using it properly with downwards pressure, you dont even need a lock. so please explain.
Can't wait to get the clip point to go along with my full size recon 1. Absolutely fantastic knife. Thanks for giving me so many fantastic tools. Also can't wait to get my hands on the cutlass machete. It's like you guys read my mind for what i wanted this year.
@kingmigget If you are a huge fan of our products you probably appreciate the handle designs on our knives and our research into grip strength in different hand positions play a large part in that. I love these knives and cold steel in general. But i never really understood the reversable thumb stud. Just out of curiosity, why not just have a fixed stud on each side?
@callorimr slightly slimmer profile, small amount of weight removed from the blade. Lots of reasons. Plus some people like the option of being able to remove the thumb stud altogether.
You guys didn't respond to my question about the new Kukri, one what is the differences between the original and the newer model and also why did you get rid of the anodized version?
@csknives you guys did not respond to my email regarding making a knife for the UK market like the UKPK or boker subcom 42. will CS be making any knife specifically aimed at there european fanbase so that they can carry CS knives legally in there countries. thanks
@modelearth I did reply. I said we have made slipjoint folders in the past and we may do so again in the future. You never know what the future may bring
@csknives well i sent an email through the address on your website and never received a reply. thanks for replying now anyway. CS is an awesome brand and your work is industry leading. keep up the innovation!

Would you mind doing a few testing videos of the locks on your knives?
A few years ago, I got into an accident with one, and had to have my index finger reattached.
don818 1 month ago
@don818 Check out the youtube channel KnifeTests1. You'll see a lot of tests showing the strength of the Tri Ad lock

love my mini ak
KalConduitman 1 month ago
It doesn't have a pocket open notch like with the AK-47 mini. The only differences are the different design and blade types.
Haseeb2 1 month ago
@Haseeb2 no, it does not feature a thumb plate.

I love these table top over view videos. I would love to see one on the new viking axe!
marc10934 1 month ago
I can't wait for these. I love my full sized ones.
marc10934 1 month ago
I love these knives and cold steel in general. But i never really understood the reversable thumb stud. Just out of curiosity, why not just have a fixed stud on each side?
callorimr 1 month ago
@callorimr slightly slimmer profile, small amount of weight removed from the blade. Lots of reasons. Plus some people like the option of being able to remove the thumb stud altogether.
csknives 1 month ago
omg! I must have one!!!, was thinking of getting a mini ak but now that I've seen these, I think the mini is gonna have to wait
cwskin69 1 month ago
how is that mini?
jaksutubething 1 month ago
@jaksutubething it's an inch shorter on the blade and nearly 2oz lighter
