Get ready for Barbaros brother Nicanor! According to Michael Matz Nicanor's trainer and also Barbaros trainer has said he is almost ready for his maiden race.Nicanor has made the transition from a gawky yearling to a race horse. If you are deflated or elated because of the outcome at the Belmont then put it behind you and "GET READY FOR NICANOR"!Thats right! get busy on your keyboards and start googling Nicanor to see if you can start the feeding frenzy.
I will guarantee that by February of 09 this story will dwarf any stories that have been covered in horse racing in the last 30 years.Yes bigger than Big Brown,Smarty Jones,Curlin etc etc. Watch and see!
kent is not my favourite jocky but to blame him for the loss is stupid he travelled down the backstretch easy then he asked him to quicken and win the tc he had nothing a wall of horses passed big brown in a matter of strides so it was all over quickly so why blame desormeaux mr duthrow
1919 Sir Barton the first TC winner, up to 2008, 11 TCS winners, 3 in the decade of the 1970's and the greatest TC winner and horse altogether Secretarait.
and for all the women out there..the filly Ruffian was a very great horse, one of the greats as well. A sad ending to a great horse. What a great decade, I might have witnessed the greatest male and female throughbreds ever.
well lets see. This year Big Brown didnt get the Triple Crown because he didnt run that well in the Belmont. In 2006 Barbaro had a heart-breaking Belmont. In 2004 Smarty Jones was upset by longshot Birdstone on the home stretch. In 1998 the horse to come the closest is Real Quiet. He lost by a nose to Victory Gallup in one of the best Belmont races ever.
Makes me appreciate my horse, Secretariat even more.He ran the belmont in 2:24 flat(no horse closer than 9 lengths even today), but after the finish he ran another 1/8th as well in cooling down.So for that day, he ran a mile and 5/8th at 2:37 and 3/5th. A world record as well, no horse today closer than 3 lengths.
You got that right! Secretariat! There will never be a horse as good or even close. Those opposed can debate it and then get over it! It is what it is.
So true, makes me wonder how far Secretariat could had run that day in the Belmont. That was his race, his day, he wanted to just run. I also wonder if wasn't for the financial obligation with him, what would Secretariat done at age 4 and maybe 5. I also loved the 70's decade in racing. 3 TC winners, Screatariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed. To to name a few other greats.. Ruffian, Alydar, Sham, Spectacular Bid, Riva Ridge to name a few. Ridge and Bid almost did it as well.
I know, that decade was racing. The losers were TC winners as well, they just had bad luck in running the year they did. Sham had Secretariat, Alydar had Affirned. All the years prior to Secretariat's win, and all the years to now after Affirmed. The 70's had 3 TC winners and the competition wasn't weak either, so no weak fields.
Today's horses, like today's men, are pussies. Maybe the answer is to make the Belmont 1 1/8 miles so we can have a modern triple crown winner. They've dumbed down everything else to be accomodating.
Big Brown was dehydrated and had what is called catabolic muscle.Adenosine Triphosphatase and Contraction in Dehydrated Muscle Fibres causes the fast twitch muscle fiber to contract out of sync. Its not cramping,in fact there is no pain whatsoever. Its just uncomfortable. You wont hear that diagnosis from Big Browns team because it is a trainers miscalculation. It is supposed to shed the horse of execess water weight. If you noticed.only a few horses were sweating. Big Brown did not break a sweat.
LOL.. Yeah with a 110 degree heat index and 98% humidity horses will sweat, espcially when they are amped up from glyco and carbo-loading.Big Brown didnt even have a sheen.Him not not even breaking a sweat after a mile was not normal metabolic burn.Care to discuss this further with me? Leave me a message in my mailbox.
smarty jones was unbeaten and in the preakness we won by a dozen lengths the belmont is a mile and a half he ran out of gas so i think big brown is not unbeatable in the belmont but is rider will have to have the balls to hang on to him to the last second unlike stewart elliot when he went to early on smarty jones
Yeah Kent Desormeaux is Big Brown's jockey. The same jockey who rode Real Quiet in 1998. He let Real Quiet go WAY to early, then, when it looked like he still might win he started pulling his head sideways, pulling him off stride. Those of you who remember that race know that Real Quiet only lost by a nose after all that. Real Quiet would've won the TC if not for Desormeaux. Let's just hope history (aka:Desormeaux) doesn't repeat itself.

He wasn't sweating because Desormeaux didn't let him run.
