  • thats not true i got a block for chemistry class and i threw it in the fire and it burned

  • good job kid

  • can't be lit in block form? wow, it can be lit in "block form" but the way you normaly do it doesn't work.

  • And now you have fire ( fire dies out...) ok guys suscribe:D

  • @PigSlayer779 dying fire blocked from view with word balloon lmao

  • WAY too much magnesium; way too much work...5-6 scraps of mag "dust" on to a cotton ball/dryer lint, then strike the rod with the back of your knife and spark that ball into a flame...couple mins max...

you only need to make a pile like that IF you don't have tinder like a cotton ball and/or everything is wet...

WAY TOO MANY peeps here don't know how to use these LOL

  • @winfieldracer don,t be cheap on the shaving man..... tell me if u know, how to collect shaving and light them under severe wind. thx. peace

  • This was a good vid. Thanks man, don't listen to all these kooks.

  • I love how the "dont forget to subscribe" notification popped up right over the fire right when it went out... nice job. :D

  • your vid is very good thought

  • like my comment

  • your only like 13 you should not have a blade (like if u agree)

  • @fatfibs1 looks like alot of people agree, nice work

  • why don't all of you just shut it.

this is a great, useful video.

    learn from it.

  • you dont really want it to be in a fine powder, you want it be in more of a strip type shaving

  • I watched 3 other vids on magnesium fire starters (2 Coleman 1 generic). All of the 3 vids were epic fails, no fire, of course they all blamed the gear for the lack of flames. In reality, their fire starting technique sucked, whereas your technique was good and you got the expected results. Good vid, thanks for posting it.

  • Well I dont know why everyone is picking on this kid, he's trying and learning, dont see any of the loud experts here posting videos with better ways as responses.

  • magnesium will burn in block form lmao it just has to get alot hotter

  • You could use anything else besides that blade if you can't use the back of your knife.

  • @mike212916 i have no other knife, if you gave me one id be glad to remake the video just for you.

  • @X0FinalK0 yeeeeeeah!

  • @mike212916 dont speak to him like that or you'll see were ill ram that mag block

  • @mike212916 stop typing like a drooling idiot kid.

  • @mike212916 Classy.

  • The guy was like OMG you guys i made fire! Wee wee wee wee.

  • it's bad to be lost outside with nothing but a firestarter - not even puberty :(

  • nice cool ... nice vid

  • wat a waste of time

  • Fire! Fire! Fire! Uh! I fucking hate the fucking wind! Now I have to shave more magnesium!

  • Lol you tried to put the annotation over the failed fire :l

  • nice track pants!

  • perhaps instead of using the knife he should have used another not so important tool just a heads up

  • @nick7461 the file?

  • i want to cut your head of with a magnesium knife.

  • ur voice is really annoying

  • yo u sound like ur 2, and it would of been better if u had a fire and keeped it going not just a little flame.

  • Will it work with out the shavings??? im looking on getting one.

  • @OMGitsDYLANJ with some sort of tinder, you can just use the rod's sparks to get a flame.

  • Love how trolls do what they. My Nephew and all his Boyscout Going friends know more about starting fires that all you nerdy, pimple ridden, chronic masterbating homos.

any person who knows what the hell they are doing. has more than 1 knife. and doesnt use the backside of a blade that doesnt lock. idiots.

  • So i went out and tried to start a fire today with my magnesium fire starter and dandelions. I failed, I just got back home and youtubed how to do it. Boy am i a dumb ass, I thought magnesium was the flint i had no idea you could scrape that shit off.... if i wasn't so tired id go back out for round 2...

  • @jake4569 but remember u should use dead things cause green wood or grass dosen't burn

  • @X0FinalK0,

from which company is your magnesium firestarter? (sorry for my english, I'm german^^)

  • Bought mine for $3.99 off of Amazon! I got that and a new Gerber knife coming in the mail! Can't wait!

  • guys your all wrong to scrap off the magnesium fast use a grinder, sander,or drill with sander tip thumbs up so people can see

  • I got mine at harbor freight and it came with a saw tool to scrape the magnesium

  • when u were lighting it were you on ur roof lol?

  • REI doesn't sell the magnesium blocks for 3.50 anymore.

  • got mine from harbor fright for 1.50- brand new

  • peace ...keep on smokin

  • @Bmxvenom the blade has no locking feature so If i used the other side, the blade would collapse.

  • @X0FinalK0 but for other blades it's a good idea to not use the blade, if you have a multi tool it's best to use a metal file or rasp to scrape off the magnesium

  • @X0FinalK0 use a different knife

  • @X0FinalK0 Get yourself a locking knife or use one of the other tools on your Leatherman.

  • @X0FinalK0 Not if you do it with the blade closed, give it a try.

  • @X0FinalK0 then use any other edge on the multitool,

  • @X0FinalK0 this is true, but in a survival situation, you wouldnt want to use your only sharp tool, you can use any other part o that knife.

  • @X0FinalK0 Buy a real knife you will have a much easier time. :)

  • Is the Magnesium Lighter illegal?

  • Oh man people. The knife does not have a locking mechanism. Perhaps it was the only knife he had besides kitchen? I personally do not like eating flint and enjoy my fingers. Lay off.

  • @theotherfinch right i know i thought the same thing if he uses the back because its not locking heel cut himself

  • oh man 2.99 - 3.50, I got it for 7.99 I feel so ripped off :)

  • @theotherfinch you're not the only one

  • Wrong side of the knife... noob!

  • @Bmxvenom Unless of course the knife doesn't have a locking mechanism...

  • @francarstens plumpkins aren't puppets but they'll cut ya fingers off

  • This thik cunt called the flint the striker grow up and then play with fire

  • everyone here is telling him that he is holding the knife the wrong way... but its a flip knife... rubbing it the other way will cause the knife to snap shut

  • Ehh stupid little pyro boy. Like really wait until you hit puberty then make videos and play with fire

  • You've got fire! And a dull ass knife!

  • You're holding the knife wrong while cutting it

  • no shit it has magnesium its called a magnesium fire starter

  • nice

  • I thought the flint was made out of magnesium?

  • Fuck I just bought the Magnesium not the flint D:/

  • its in a block form, how interesting

  • the thing you called a striker is not at all one it is in fact a flint. a striker i what you use to cause the sparks from the flint

  • im going to get one today :D

  • @Bmxvenom Y

  • @Bmxvenom thats a good tip, but should only be done with a locking blade knife

  • breaks my heart to see a knife ruined..

  • @IITZzCOOK13 I don't know why but i feel the same when a knife is beeing dulled down.. they are ment to be sharp. use the backside of it next time

  • HAHAHHAHAA ANOTATION OVER FIRE :)))) : ) xD

  • Comment removed

  • @Bmxvenom Go get your mag stick and try shaving it with back side of knife, when your freezing cold and this kid is sitting by a fire maybe he will give you some pointers. Nice video kid, keep it up.

  • dont scrape the corners cos now they are all fucked use the straight bit

  • This is the best video on youtube.

  • @98TheBlack I use a lighter.

  • ya that worked. it died. try haveing a bunch of tinder in a pile and scrape some magnesium on to the pile and light it.

  • it went out! dam wind!!!!! I shake my fist at the wind :(

  • Nice

  • @crombieposterboy bic lighter last about a full 2 minutes, you could use the magnesium to light a fire more than 200 times, its also waterproof, lighters aren't, and the magnesium doesn't have any gears that can break or fall off.

  • Doesn't that make your knife REALLY dull?

  • @jaesong I'm sure he has a backup knife.

  • @crombieposterboy Lighters don't work when they've been wet too long. How's the magnesium gonna get spoiled??

  • If you are using your only blade, confine the mag block shaving to the hilt end only. If you are making a survival fire you want the rest of that blade for knife uses. If you are using a multi tool other "blades" will shave the mag block without dulling cutting edges.

I am an old pappy who teaches my grandkids survival; I salute you making videos.

    You go girl !!!

    22Bull

  • i own one until some kid did damage to flint by sliding over a rough surface for sparking. now replacement stay in road survival kit.

  • watch thee wood burns while hes on it lol hahaha

  • Awesome.

  • Wow. We have a woman teach us how to start a fire..... That woman is scary enough...... And then on top of it,she didn't keep the fire going..... So if I was injured in the woods and had to rely on her,I would be screwed. I'd be screwed in the first place to have a woman that knows survival skills. That's the type of woman that will chop your winkie off when your sleeping.

  • nice vid, very informative

  • why in the hell would u use ur blade to do that dumassssss

  • @breaker2395 why not? thats how everybody does it dumbasssssss

  • @paintBALLhero510 i only said that because its dumb to dul ur blade i use other things

  • @breaker2395 if you new anything you would know magnesium is softer than led, almost like wittling wood, and you shouldn't have to worry about blunting your blade because thats what they're for, you can always sharpen it again if you know how to

  • @breaker2395 that is why you use the back so you do not dull it

  • @breaker2395 Your the dumbass that is how you are suppost to do it retard

  • good video--keep up the good work

  • fuck you weener kid who made this video go suck a neanderthal dick

  • theres a way to use a water filled condom its epic

  • If you have a light my fire firesteel, you can you the striker to shave some filings so you dont have to use your blades.

  • is that magnesium block pure magnesium or only the sides are?

  • @pocholox8 its pure.

  • Hey man...Im liking the look of that knife/multitool...can you give me a name? thanks bro

  • @LUKE01MAN pretty sure it's a leatherman juice. they're pretttttty awesome.

  • Use the back of the knife, why make a knife blunt every time you want to start a fire?

  • @ihaterobbie123 ive had one of these and i thought the same thing but the magnesium is really hard and the back of a knife just tends to not have enough of an edge to shave off enough magnesium. you might be able to if you knife had a really thin blade but it would probbably take up way to much time.

  • @fuckyoubitch5495 Well to be perfectly honest I don't use a knife to scrape my magnesium fire starter, I use my boot fastenings.

I used to use the serrations on my combo edge buck parralex, they became pretty warped but extensive steeling brought them straight again.

  • where can I get one like this? please anybody, give link if u can

  • @7s42 They are all over the internet... go to harborfreight . com and search magnesium fire starter. Only $2.99

  • For some questions magnesium is more durable and lasts longer, it is water proof, cheap, compact and also lighter, however it is hard to use these for smoking blunts with

  • i never get the point of these flint starters, and fire starter things. You carry it just incase ur get lost in the wild or what not. Why not just carry a lighter just incase?.. I mean it would make a lot more sense and be a lot more easier.

  • @Topazmoon the reason you should bring this instead of a lighter is because it lasts long, and waterproof, lighters have gas so it can get water inside in case if...

  • @7s42 alright, then how about a waterproof cellphone, or a waterproof lighter? I baught a waterproof and wind resistant lighter before, only costed me $25. Sure its more expensive then this, but its easier to use and much quicker.

  • when u start off its a straight edge on the magnesium, not rigid. So scrap with ur knife down, if u scrap with ur knife straight up like that, u will ruin ur blade a lot faster. Its okay if ur using a cheap knife, but I'd never use my $130 knife to scrap straight up and down like that.

  • i like your sound

  • got mine for 5$ probably never gonna use it but ya never know.

  • and add some water

  • @dukilaki that would be funny

  • Oh yea, instead of tinder, carry some lint from your dryer in a litlte bag, caches right off and burns quickly, great for starting fires.

  • $2.99 at Harbor Freight

  • @dancingrizz That's where I bought a couple of them too!

  • @dancingrizz bought one from there today

    didn't work :(

  • damn payed 8 bucks for the exact same one at dicks

  • badass

  • i have same thing mine was $7.50

  • fail it went out

  • Good job!

  • a lighter is easier lol

  • your video is slow and you ruined your knife

  • @AlawiGMX don't einstein me, any experienced woodsman would know to reserve their blade for more important tasks. And why not resist the blade from going back to it's rest? Let me also just say that having a fixed or locking blade is not only safer, but is usually of a better build. So go einstein yourself bud

  • LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME

  • You sound like a douchbag...

  • I got one from Harbor Freight for 2.99, comes with scraping tool- looks like part of a saw blade. Knew someone would have a video showing how to work it; nice job!

  • Kids going to make a great arsonist when he grows up .

  • I wouldn't use the knife (front or back) my self, many pen knifes and multi tools have a file, if you got one I'd recommend using the thin edge of the file at a near 90 degree angle but ever so slightly leaning it in using the grooved edge for grinding the magnesium block and striking it to,

not only will you not blunt you knife that way but its slightly grooved so its got more grinding credentials than the back of a knife.

    nice vid,

  • @me if you don't have a file I'd by a small cheap one from any store drill a hole in it and tie it to the Fire starter. no expert but it think its the best way my self.

  • @AlawiGMX Unless you have one that locks in place.

  • I have one of those, but I cut a 4" piece off of a dull-ish hacksaw blade, and I use that to shave the block. Works a lot better than a knife.

  • what are kids up to these days... playing with fire..

  • It is not 3.50 at REI, it's more like 6 bucks

  • crap i got ripped off I got mine from china but I still like mine cause im part chinese but I payed 6.89

  • are you a girl or a boy

  • in a survival situation, i think it's really important that you make your tools last. and a knife is so invaluable, why not use the back end of the blade to scrape the magnesium?

  • ahhhhh that has got to kill your knife

  • lol u just fucked up ur blade :P

  • Walmart has the Coleman version for like $5 and it comes with a drain chain and a piece of steel hacksaw blade that's about 3 inches. Works nicely!

  • have fun blunting your knife

  • well for the shavings i have no idea how to do it better still have to figure it out... but as a striking tool don't use your sharp edge of the knive!!!! you dont want to use your sharpened edge!! better use the spine of your knive in an angle so an sharp edge is striking the ferro-rod on the back that way it wont affect your sharpened edge

another thing is to hold your striking tool and pull the rod backwards. you wont accidentally hit your scrapings and throw them all over the place

  • lol u sufficated it with paper

  • Claro y directo

    muy buen trabajo !!!

  • Why don't you buy a real scout knife, and use that instead?

  • Comment removed

  • sorry maybe a dumb question but will this process dull your knife significantly?

  • Yeah, don't dull your knife like that. Use the back edge or something.

  • dont use the blade of your knife to strike the rod

  • Its stupid to dull your knifeblade by scraping magnesium with it.

Especially if you have a multitool with a saw or file on it. omfg

  • what kind of knife is that and how much did it cost

  • @caleb5665 lol the vid was about the fire starter not the knife

  • @PyroBeastCF hello fucker get the stick out your dick and shut up i know

  • learn how to do it with sticks as well kids....
