Could anyone mention the instruments used? I hadn't seen that instrument in the middle which is between a viola and a cello in size. The music is so beautiful =D! Thank you for uploading!
@edtskyline Hello !!! ... it's a Violoncello da Spalla (of the neck). It's recently recreated out of original plans by JC Hoffman of Leipzig, a contemporary of Bach, and extant (smaller) Cello da Spalla in museums in Europe. I think one of the first to recreate it is Mr. Dmitry Badiarov, who is also a core member of La Petite Bande, especially for Mr. Sigiswald Kuijken, the one you see playing in this video, for La Petite Bande.
@edtskyline Hi. The instrument you're referring to is a 'violoncello da spalla'. Unfortunately, all I know about the instrument is that it is a predecessor of the viola da gamba and violoncello most of us are familiar with today, stemming from some when in the 1500s.
For some solo playing I recommend you enter "Sergey Malov violoncello da spalla" as search phrase, for some HD clips.
Have not seen such excellent Baroque music performance for a while, thank you so much for sharing with us.
