  • Satire tag, not being serious

  • so sad... but how cum the guy is british?

  • hello ronan

  • top documentary films (.com) has a entire film based on the subject of affluenza. It's from the 80's, which is sad because they had such high hopes for the future. I highly recommend it.

  • YOSHINO!!!!

  • I don't understand why there are young children. Surely the situation has been dire for years, and yet the adults choose to have them anyway?

Don't get me wrong I understand the point of this video - we have it great - but in less fortunate countries they are not really helping themselves by increasing their population and creating further demands for limited resources....

  • @dmmchn One of the problems is education. Most of these people who continue to have children have neither the education nor the means to stop having children. Birth control is often unavailable and reproductive knowledge is often minimal to nonexistent. (Remember that reproduction is a survival instinct.) Additionally, "big-picture" population awareness is not present. After all, this type of education and knowledge is difficult to cultivate when money is so desperately needed.

  • @kcgreen1 "Birth control is often unavailable and reproductive knowledge is often minimal to nonexistent."

Yes.. so just don't have sex. Surely they are educated enough to know that sex = children, and children = more mouths to feed.

I simply cannot accept that a human being can be so stupid as to not know that.

  • This is some of the funniest stuff I've seen in a loooong time!

  • haha as if adults are any better

  • Wow, this is sad!

  • i think I'm suffering from whiney-white-teenager-who-doesnt-have-a-perfect-life syndrome, too.... :\

  • WHITE POWER

  • AFFLUENZA* not influenza. Fuck me

  • omfg im retarded. forget me, it is a satire on their part. man, i must have influenza -.-

  • "And she is forced to sit in the back" all torture sounding

  • That's why I'm glad that I'm not one of those mass-produced teenagers who you'll see wearing the North Face, or Hollister, or Abercrombie, with their generic iPhones, etc. etc. etc.. I do things most kids my age, very sadly, don't do enough of... that includes things like going to museums, reading books, going for walks in the woods, playing outside, and finding every reason to convince myself that I don't need to consume everything as opposed to looking for reasons TO consume things. I'm happy.

  • @SevenFootPelican I'm pretty much the same, we are a dying breed...

  • and than she came home to find her sister had died........her hair haha lol but i get the message

  • My family only has a PS2 too! (and that's my dad's)

  • my whole class started laughing when they said " i wake up feeling stiff"

  • this is a great video

it really shows us what we take for granted every single day

  • Affluenza is a disease - a disease of the soul that makes us forget the suffering of others. Love and charity are the cure.

  • well i mean those are pretty crappy headphones you gotta give her that

  • do you people not understand what satire is?

  • those who criticize our generation always seem to forget who raised us....

  • @italbtch15 I agree, but then once we realize we can live differently it's up to us not those that raised us.

  • Australia do a 40 hour famine. But USA do a 30 hour famine because half of them give up and eat their chocolate cake.

  • Now we're supposed to apologize for not living under dictatorships.

But if we suggest doing something about the dictators, we get bashed for that as well.

    Misery really does love company!

  • I agree that we are unaware how blessed we are to live in such a wonderful country. I think it's fair to say this video really addresses this well and puts it in a way that really tackles and gets kids to start thinking about what they have been blessed with.

I think we need to be careful however, of writing comments saying that kids in Australia are somehow bratty because they can't empathise with these people. Adults are just as bad.

  • Comment removed

  • What's in the mind of those that dislike this video?

  • I think I'm a little concerned that some of the commenters didn't understand the satire, or that this video was meant to encourage them to stop thinking about themselves...!! And then complained about their ipods.........sigh.............

  • she brushed her teeth for 4 seconds??

  • i wake up feeling stiff every morning too.

  • @duckkyyy218 Eat nigella sativa oil !

  • @duckkyyy218 That's hilarious.

  • erin had it difficult aye

  • I understand the satire, but I also think that this is rather stupid. It's neither party's fault that those actually unfortunate people are in the situation they're in. Teenagers in better places have much less significant issues, by comparison, yes, but that doesn't mean they should be made fun of because they don't suffer as much as others. Adults complain about the same trivialities, but I have yet to see anything pointing this out in contrast to those in 3rd world countries.

  • @MapleGe3K LoL? "calm down" where did i sound excited, raging, or whatever... LoL

  • @MapleGe3K You did miss the point.... It shows how bad the world is on some parts... And how teenagers complain about a life they should be grateful about.

  • the died her hair part is maddd funnyyyyy had me dieing laughing

  • What beat is that? songs ill someone get me the name

  • I take my hat off to whoever made this.

  • if you complan bout the work you have to do like doin the dishs that you should see the work they make the kids do ova there thay hav to dig for food,if their mother is blind than thay have to lead her to home AND thay cant go to skool lucky for them no skool even if they did go to skool they will find it boring enywhy but still do somin

  • My school is teaming up with world vision to help this kids and just 3 teachers got over 110 kids to join and we've raised over $3700 and every time I watch a video like this I cry so much. You have 1 life please use it!!!!! I you go to Monticello Middle School than you know what I mean. : , (

  • hmm, and why are these people opressed and unemployed? oh thats right corrupt ADULTS. does that mean all adults are to blame?

  • WE get it Adults!!!!! we're lazy & whiney. Do us a favor and SHUT THE HELL UP and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT instead of complaining about your "mid-life crisis" & that WE have it soo good... b/c we do...

  • This is so spot-on. I must admit that I sometimes show signs of Affluenza, but this made me really think about how ungrateful some people are. I heard in the bathroom at school a girl arguing with her mom to come pick her up early because she "didn't need to be there anyway". What about the kids who can't go to school? Wake up, America. Be grateful for the things you have.

  • This is gold! It should be mandatory viewing for every child over 12 in an affluent nation. Mind you, 1GB is not much for an iPod. Poor girl. Where can I make a donation to the iPod Appeal? haha

  • This should be on TV instead of that Jersey shore crap and my super sweet 16 bullshit MTV brainwashes and feeds americas youth

  • at least the girl has an ipod she should be helping other people

  • Great video!! Sad that some people don't simply take what they have and be thankful for it. I'm amazed everyday by the life I live and am more thankful for it than anyone could ever be. I just hope someday when I'm older I'll be able to give back more to this world.

  • That poor girl! My ipod is 30 whole gigs and i still don't think it's enough.

  • While I fully support anything that teaches children perspective, especially regarding our consumer culture, I doubt that using sarcasm (you call it satire) to shame teenagers is likely to have any positive effect.

  • Yer..... Your just a big swetty ballsack

  • I think people must stop throwing way their refrigerators, ovens, computers, etc and start donating them to people who don't have one, eventually these people will have the same things we have, the same goes for food and clothing.

  • its kinda sad how the people who arent in poverty and most likely have an education dont even understand the vid :S

  • poor red man i have 3 ps3s sux for him and the girl shouldnt care about 1 gig ipods there crap i mean get a cheaper psp where u can get games music photos and videos to support all your recreational needs

  • This video is ageist bullcrap.

  • Not real and bisexuall.

  • Fake and gay !!

  • Comment removed

  • 1 gig and a play station 2? oh my god how do they make it!

  • yeah i totally know where she is coming from, my iphone is only the 3gs and all my friends have the iphone 4. im still using a macbook pro from, like, 2009. ive had my car for 2 whole years (since i was 15) and my dad wont even buy me a new one.

  • wouldve been way better without the obvious information of propaganda starting from the 2nd half of the story... I mean, the first was funny, the 2nd was boring. Also, the narrator ... the male one,,,, did a great job... while the others just sucked

  • Check your perspective

  • i get like, 5 dollars a week.

  • This is good satire but I must say that it's not just teenagers that take their lives for granted although they do it the most.

  • Teenagers think they have bad lives but don't consider the people in the 3rd world.

  • I really don't know what to do about all of the poor people in the world. Is this video saying that we should suffer to help other people. I am not trying to be mean.

  • @paultheuglydog A very real concern, but helping the poor and starving people of the world does not mean having to give up what you currently have. If you reflect more sincerely upon what you purchase and what you truly need to purchase, as opposed to what you want, you can instead donate to help people like this. Other than that, spread the word - it's one of the best things you can do. Making people aware is fundamental to changing things, and remember, we can all make a difference.

  • I'm a goat and I think the grass looks a lot greener on the other side of the river. I'll go check it out and let you know...

  • 1g my ass, does that look like a shuffle? no.

i have to walk moar steps, pwnd erin.

I did de 40 hour and am still alive, i deserve a sticker.

  • oh my (): i totally can understand how hard it must to be, take on living with that crap. i feel with them and prey every night for all the lost kids on the planet. because i can understand that its sucks to play with ps2 now the ps 3 is released(: HELP THOSE PORE KIDS!!!!!!! they need NEW STUFF!!!!!!

  • This video was genius, I'm 14 years old and one can say I have teenage affluenza. What is stated here though, to put simple, is that the reason the general population of unindustrialized countries suffer famine, poverty, and hunger, is because many teenagers in more industrialized, technologically advanced countries, are suffering from an obviously "good" life?

  • I'm doing the 40 hour famine this weekend.

    Please sponsor me! <3

  • @13funnyz xD

  • YOU SUCK!

  • Lol.. I love you... I hate ungrateful, spoiled children. Well done!

  • I would say that one teenager who said this video changed his life would either be lying, or part of a vast minority. Satirical humour and stereotypes aren't a good way to get across to teenagers, as none of them actually think this way at all. Then again, I'm not sure if you were targetting this at the teenagers - or at the parents.

  • @Alkners I'm not sure if this exactly changed my life or anything, but it got a message across that made me feel somewhat guilty. Teenagers aren't stupid so I'm sure this was inspiring to many of them.

  • great message! be grateful for what you have, there are people that have it so much worse!!

  • Im a fat ass. But atleast im wealthy enough to BE a fat ass xD

  • Oh my god O___O I can't....believe. Those poor teenagers! jkjkjkjkjk. I can't believe how hard life is over there. We have to help them! I don't really know what I can do though :( I can't send them any money.

  • the whole video was very well made, and i liked it.

i really can relate to this, as i live in southern california where there is an excess of spoiled kids. but nice job on the video, some parts were pretty funny :)

hahahaha i just realized i do hate loading the dishwasher

  • The counterpoint is really unnecessary and pulls the rug from under the satire it interrupts.

  • Hi there worldvision Stir, I'm a smart kid and totally get the idea of the video im spoilt and now feel realy bad about it! well done we should all think twice!

  • @Avril9065743 Hey, don't let this make you feel guilty, just appreciate what you have. Why should you feel guilty? Did you cause famine in other places? Just thank your parents and enjoy your privileges.

  • Hi there WorldVisionStir, I didn't miss the point of your clip! cheeky... I am an intelligent adult, and I understood what the whole message you were trying to get across was all about!! I was just making a comment about it that's all. Expressing my feelings after seeing this clip, because the clip makes you realise just how spoilt so many kids are today compared to others. In other words the clip, although a tad silly does actually work! and hopefully makes others more fortunate... think twice!

  • @SuperBeautifulyou - ace! Glad you got it... some of our viewers haven't though. Keep on stirring!

  • @WorldVisionStir how can they NOT get it. It's so obvious!!!

  • These teenagers and children in Australia and other Western Countries that complain because they do not have the latest game or gadget or best label clothes to impress their friends with, or junk food to snack on one afternoon, have absolutely no idea!!!! how lucky and blessed they are every single day ! Ok , so their home life may not be perfect or as glamorous as some Hollywood teenagers or movie stars lives may seem to be, but compared to these very poor people, these kids are really rich!!!

  • @SuperBeautifulyou - ummm - I think you might have missed the point of the satire in this clip :)

It's making fun of the things these kids complain about - in contrast to plight of those living in poverty around the world...

  • @WorldVisionStir This video is to "make fun" of anything or anyone!!!! this is to inspire us all to DO SOMETHING REAL!!!! Help people God Bless us, wake up and DO Something real! this isn't a gag or a spoof, it is satire! really, wake up and stop arguing, love and help each other my friend, please realize and modify your point of view on this film, b/c it is about a real issue, satire is no joke

  • @SuperBeautifulyou Yes, you clearly do not understand. This is about these people not realising how lucky they are, but it also is a very depressing reality of consumer culture and everyday life.

  • thank you for creating this wonderful wake up call.

  • Omfg this is dumb I love dry tasteless cereal!

  • i find it so sad that a mere 810,000+ people have seen this and millions have watched numa numa guy and chocolate rain...the choices we make...

  • i've not seenn this in 2 yrs. Video is very well done

  • that was insane... oh man.

  • gay

  • i didnt know that this teen disease had a named..affluenza

  • I am really amazed at some of the ignorant comments here. it's a great piece of satire and a great reminder of how much harder it is for many people to LIVE and know they will be alive tomorrow.

  • haha i love satire, not only is it my kinda of humor, but people who don't understand it look pretty silly

  • @joeyhimself1 - absolutely! We've had some amazing comments here from people who just haven't put it all together and understood the challenge.

  • Comment removed

  • I can't understand what the person is saying

  • we all take things for granted one way or another, sometime or another, but i feel that one thing hopeful is that aaron with such expectations of how life should be, (and indeed we all want the best) can help make a better world for the other children of the world. LOVE'S ENOUGH FOR US GROWING

    !

  • Amazing video. Such a strong message.

  • brilliant and so true

  • It would have been better if they had put the real footage of impoverished children all together at the beginning and then had some sort of seque into the "affluenza" stuff. It would have been a little more biting that way. As it is, it come across as preachy.

  • How enlightening.

I'm not rich nor spoiled, but I feel lucky that I'm not living my life like the children from Africa. In my opinion, satire has been the only way to see cruel things, and still feel that it can be fixed.

We're lucky and we didn't even noticed it. How disappointing...

  • Oh My God. She actually is FORCED to carry the groceries from her toyota corolla (a car is better than no car at all) to her driveway and OH... into her house. watch videos of children in Africa or China and see how they suffer. they have to walk 3 hours just go get to school in the morning. this video is a joke.

  • its satire...

  • Thanks Captian Obvious.

  • ...lol?

at least have the common decency to FINISH the video.

    and understand it.

someone doesn't understand sarcasm obviously :L

  • You don't miss much, do you?

  • You do know what satire is, right?

  • I'm a teenager, in the United States, and my dad, who's always been one to care about issues such as this, had me watch this video. i'll admit it, i felt pretty put upon at first, but then i listened. Thought. and realized, what do i really have to complain about? surely not having to watch a 5-minute video. at least i have a computer...and...you know....food.

you've made me look at my life differently, and for that i thank you.

  • @BonkLi You were (and probably still are) apparently a really stupid and ignorant teenager, then. Either that or you were lucky enough to not be bombarded by similar repetitive crap throughout your life about how you don't appreciate what you have coming from hypocrites who think they're better simply because they've lived longer.

  • Teenagers are shaped by their environment. You put all the blame with them. The adults need to change, too, and they need to stop complaining about teenagers and actually do something about it. That doesn't mean more discipline or punishment, it means teaching them and being there, and loving them and giving them the knowledge (of what is really important in life) and ambition and REASONS to be happy without being obsessed with new, insignificant technologies.

  • Let's not just lump this on teenagers. From my experience as a teacher, teenagers desperately want to help but face roadblocks from the true masters of affluenza - adults. Next time we adults go to buy a $30 bottle of wine let's stop to think whether the 700mls of liquid is worth it.

  • No way! The iPod has only 1 GB!

  • This video is spot on.

I almost cry, when I sees it. It's not bearable that there are so much difference in life standard among humans.

  • Hats off to Adam Valvasori and the team at World Vision for bringing these two issues together so eloquently. 5*s

  • This was a great video. It is important to see the contrast - to see the truth.

  • It amazes me the number of people that have watched this piece and totally missed the point.

Teenage Affluenza does exist, it's not attacking teens it's stating the facts in a satirical manner. WE (as in people in developed nations) worry about stuff that in comparision to what others in the world face is nothing, not important in the slightest.

  • this is great. satire is a great way to make people think twice about their actions if it is done the right way. 5*

  • LOL I was like wtf??????

  • Great satire. My brother used this video as inspiration to write a satirical play for his final high school senior year project. Got a 96.

    Just fantastic.

  • Major politicial change is the only thing which will fix this up.

  • Sopez1, politics is part of the picture, as is religion. The more prosperous parts of the world tend to be capitalist (rather than socialist), and predominantly Christian (rather than Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, atheist, etc.). However, there are some exceptions, such as Japan (capitalist, but less than 2.5% Christian), the Middle-Eastern oil sheikdoms (Muslim), and Sweden (socialist-capitalist blend).

  • This is a great wake up call.

  • wow. really put a perspective on my life. i'm not gonna complain now when i have to jobs or when i have to walk home or when i have homework. and i'm not just saying that. sure i have my problems, but i'm sure the people in 3rd world countries would love to have the problems i have and not have the problems i have. great video.

  • its basically telling us that we don't have it bad and we need to stop whining and do something

  • 'Why do they need the white man to do everything for them?'

They can't do it on their own because the white man exploited them. That's globalization, dumbass.

  • Start living? just like that?...are you incredibly retarded?...read about water supply, world economics refering to africa, african soil, and then mark yourself with real problems.

Are you one whining because your ipod has only 1 gig?, then fuckin hange yourself because that must be A SERIOUS PRODUCT PROBLEM TO SOLVE.

  • What, do you two (angelsoforion and hahayourdead33) think only people of color suffer from poverty? We happen to live in a mere wink in human history, when predominantly-white North America and Europe are generally prosperous and peaceful, but that has certainly not always been the case. Child poverty is not caused by skin color, nor by character defects of its victims, nor by globalization or exploitation by white men.

  • The causes vary from place to place, but include corrupt, despotic governments, natural disasters & epidemics, invasions and wars, and -- most of all -- the hardness of human hearts.

The cure for child poverty is to cure hardening of the heart. The cure for a heart heart is a new Resident within it. Invite Christ to make His home there and wonderful things will begin to happen.

Google "fruits of the spirit" (in quote marks).

  • Is the condition caused by the lack of Christ as the sole source of spirituality?

It has a lot to do also with invasions, wars etc.

I'd intensify what u seem 2be saying by stating that it is precisely Teenage Affluenza that prevents the emergence of ppl like Mother Theresa who truly live a Christ-like life & make change (in Christs name by the way).

The same goes for ppl like Mahatma Gandhi, a great non-Christian person.

It's + efficient & morally right to focus + on what the video presents.

  • What a patronizing, elitist load of sanctimonious tripe!

  • This is Hilarious!!!

HEY!! I sponser a child im allowed to say that..

Its just got some really funny parts I reckon

  • really? well usually the strong take from the weak, that's why they've come out on top.

..you actually would call starving children "faggots"?

    wow.

  • I suggest everyone who didn't get a giggle out of this go look up satire, read Catch-22 or watch Monty Python, and then watch it again.

  • i personally think teens that have all this technology and items they dont need only because they are lacking love from their family or parents. dats why they're probly usin materialistic items as substitute for love..i think kids need to step away from their own luxury lives and understand and see how kids out in other countries are suffering and dying from starvation.

  • think global, act local is key here.....how can we possibly concentrate our mental efforts and send support to the problems in Africa when we must modify our behaviours so much-,so radically: we have to learn to SWITCH THAT LIGHT SWITCH OFF! , learn to live with our families and to start switching off the media TV which command us.....start being and stop doing etc

  • I have worked on a water project in Mali with World Vision. I can speak to the fact that many Africans work much harder than many Americans I know. They don't get sick days, they must work to eat. and clean water is never certain. what they do have though, is happiness. africans lead much more satisfied lives than americans. there is so much that we could learn from them. "Blessed are the poor for yours is the Kingdom of God"

  • Socio-economic status isn't everything. Many young adults and teens suffer from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia - regardless of socio-economic status, which can ruin lives, careers, education, and can eventually lead to suicide.

There's no such thing as "Affluenza" as another user posted - just another bullshit term for spoiled brats.

  • it's supposed to be sarcastic.

  • My Husband and I sponsor a child in Ethiopia thru World Vision. The letters we get from him are so sweet, but so very sad. I hope anyone watching this video REALLY GETS the meaning. If you have a home, a car, a job, food in your pantry & a computer to watch this video, you should get down on your knees & thank the Lord above for your many blessings. Since we started sponsoring our child, our perspective on life has changed dramatically. We're appreciative of what we have. Just think about it.

  • THIS MADE ME CRY!!!

  • none of you get it!--it's SATIRICAL. they're poking fun at whiny, spoiled kids!! watch the whole thing and actually listen this time! it's a good video, decent message.

  • Are you completely retarded? You have missed the whole point it is being sarcastic when it talks about her you dope!

  • and after all, it says the truth! people so ignorant, not knowing what real life is! I say they are weak people, ! they might be swept away by anything! LIfe is hard! But i must apologize and admit! This video is sarchastic and true! POINT SCORED!

  • you're so stupid thats the point the viddeo is making, that people take stuff4granted these days you fuckin dope

  • Just because you're well off materially doesn't mean your life is perfect. And it doesn't mean that they're not grateful. I think they're lacking something more personal, and they use material things to compensate for that.

  • omg

    tht was so touching

  • this is probably the best video ive seen so far on youtube.

  • This video does does have alot of meaning. Many kids are very fortunate to have a house to live in, to have meals everyday, to get a good education. On the otherhand, kids living in poor countries, such as Africa, don't have any of this. I think some of us don't realize how lucky we truely are, and we take advantage of it. When kids get more and more things, they want more. I REALLY wish we can end proverty, and everyone can have a house and food to eat everyday. =/

  • Africa is not a country.
