hell this is cream puff time compared to when I went thru..little quartermaster chief Francisco Castro, he would walk thru ranks and if you flinched or moved would smack you along side the head with his clipboard..marching with 02 Spingfields and exercising with them. yup life has changed, now they have "time outs" in bootcamp. and women in their companies. Hell the only woman we saw for 4 weeks was that fat woman issueing dog tags and taking info for life insurance!
An indoor mock-up ship trainer is a very bad idea, that doesn’t belong in basic training anyway. Don’t do that.
MORE fire fighting can’t ever be enough. That said, what was shown was unrealistic powder puff, and therefore dangerous because a burning ship at sea isn’t anything like what they were doing.
What they were doing may contribute to their death, and the sinking of their ship.
@centurion180ad I've fought fires on a ship... it's not that bad. I was an electrician, so our fires never get that bad before they are noticed. We were trained to form fire-fighting parties of many people and we knew our roles once they were assigned. The highest ranking person to respond took control and it was over very quickly. We always had it under control within minutes.
@Flutistno3 I was thinking more along the lines of what happens when an Exocet antiship missile penetrates the side of a warship, its warhead bursts & burns a fuel bunker, and its unspent propellant sprays all over the place burning like magnesium.
All of this usually happens in foul weather, at night, and may even come to pass when the ship is not at Action Stations.
@centurion180ad also the ship stores its Ordnance below decks.....if they have Marines on board they usually have a metric shit ton of 155 shells and all the ordnance that the aircraft use. When I went below once, I saw some WP shells mixed in with everything else. TL DR: If a Exo were to penetrate an LHD sized ship, they'd all be dead
BTW, I know Orlando has closed its base, but I hope to find some old footage somewhere. If anyone knows where to find the footage please share. Thanks! : )
In the 80's, we had a "brother" team, but we didn't have them with us except in academics. We wore garrison caps and not ball caps, and women were sent to boot camp in Orlando, not Great Lakes. A lot has changed. I am still searching for the base map and/or footage of the RTC in Orlando. Thanks for sharing! : )

@centurion180ad nothing can compare to the real thing so what do you suggest with all your wealth of knowledge and extensive experience?
89bhs 4 weeks ago
@89bhs I'd scap that Coney Island amusement park small arms simulator. That is WORSE than a waste of time, and taxpayer's debt.
Recruits ought to be shown a raging out-of-control inferno, because that is a REAL show stopper!
I'd overhaul this screwed up system, bigtime.
Officers are out in la-la land, getting more loopy by the hour. Classist discrimination, must be done away with.
Structure & training is totally out of whack.
Pay, incentives & allowances SUCK.
Any questions?

@centurion180ad well, that's definitely a good start. No questions at this time...
