  • Poor percussionist at 0:14 XD hope they got their music back!

  • this brings back memories of middle school band :') My band played this in 8th grade for the EOC lol I loved this song!!!! Its too bad my current high school doesnt offer band... :( the flute part for this was just lovely:)

  • @Ruffles2012 what kind of high school dosent offer band?

  • .... did your first trumpet have that much trouble with the high C at the end?

  • LOL There was a time in high school as the student conductor I didn't use a score not with the gifts of conductor USAF Arnold Gabriel (photo g memory) but because i studied the score over and over I could tell the french horns to tune up because they were not playing the right note only to find it was a misprint in the publishing of that part,LOL again.Peace

    brett

  • I'm NOT crazy! *grins*

I played the original composition by Alfred Reed back in my sophomore year of high school and when searching for a recording I found a version with strings in it. Some time afterward the recording disappeared and I was left to wonder if Reed made an arrangement with strings or not.

Finding this video answers that question. :3

I thought it was so pretty to have strings in it, back then I thought that's how the piece always was. Silly me. :P

  • Man, no third trumpet. Which is the part I have. Love this song, but hate it at the same time. No what I mean?

  • we're playing this our band, the poplar bluff concert band

  • trumpets are too loud!

  • i played this in high school and the frekin notes gave me a head ache every time i played it. but we used all the breath we had and it sounded ok,lol!

  • were playing this song except no strings XP

  • omgosh, our uil piece is also this one, what school are you from?

  • Granbury HighSchool :D i love our band, but i'm kinda getting bored with it this year...not near as fun as last year. I'm in choir too :)

  • Ok, I play the first clarinet part on this song, and it's pretty ballin'!

  • clarinets rock on! oh that poor first trumpet part died out til the very end with that high B i think. Out two firsts can't get it for the whole 2 measures oh whole notes. but it sounds so cool I love this piece, and I used to hate it til i learned it.

  • Wow, strings! Hey, orchestra takes us; maybe we should take some orchestrans (Here's our chance!)

The flute part is pretty hard to learn, but I do like all the weird chords and brass interludes.

  • omg my band is playing this! I love this song

  • I love this song, I play contr alto clarinet (smaller than a contra but bigger than a bass) and it's so fun, especially because my part is easy, yet not boring

  • We're playing this in my high school band this year. It's intersting because I play trumpet and I have the 2nd Cornet part and another girl has 1st Cornet. All the guys who play trumpet have the normal 1, 2 and 3 trumpet parts. Anyway, I love this song to death and thanks for uploading this!

  • no problem

  • Huh? Were you replying to someone else?

  • Anyway, I love this song to death and thanks for uploading this!

I replied to this with: No Problem

  • Oh... okay!

  • thats what my band is doing too but i think the cornet parts have the same part as the French Horns or close to it

  • My director had my friend and I sit next to our two french horn players on this piece. They do have similar parts.

  • Good music, but brass instruments are not well tuned (intonation)... But well played anyway...

  • i thought i was the only one who heard it

  • my middle school advanced band is playing this song. i play the 3rd cornet part :)

  • ...wheres the 3ed cornet? O_o?

    Other than that, cool.

  • they need some bass power. Needs more Tubas and bones

  • Alfred Reed writes very good music!

  • Great piece! I played this in the symphonic band (percussion) many years ago.

  • They're missing the 3rd cornet part which is pretty important. 3rd cornets begin the triplets when they cornets/trumpets play it!

  • yea i noticed that, there was this big pause b4 the 2nd trumpets come in with the triplets. either they werent there or, they played so softly that the camera didnt pick up the sound =)

  • The bridge is my favorite part

  • yea i love this song i play the Euphonium

and usally the Euphoniums have the dull boering boering parts but i actually have fun play this piece!

    thanks Alfreed Reed

  • The band here is very good! I've played this in my high school, and now I have to play it (again)in a music fest. Ironically on a different instrument because I double. It's like relearning all over again. Well done here!

  • got soem sexism goin on in ur percussion section there?

  • Haha! :)

  • as far as i know this piece is made for a symphonic band ..Alfred Reed is known for his band music

  • Actually, Alfred Reed does do orchestral versions of his works as well as for band. Russian Christmas Music is a good example of that.

  • as far as i know this piece is made for a symphonic band..Alfred reed is known for his band music

  • Ill have to check with the conductor who made the arrangement. I think its for symphonic orchestra.

  • is the sheet music you got really for orchestra? because i played this music before and the music was for symphonic band.
