Sounds alot like the ol' Webb Pierce '' sing thru the Nose '' songs or Wynn Stewart who also had a high pitched voice. This was nice, but Jim Reeves' was alot Better!!!
@haverstock1888 you are so welcome Thomas. I added several more of Tommy's songs in the past couple of weeks. Hope you enjoy them as well. Many thanks for your comments.
@anyzany many people want to say that Buck played on all of Tommy's records. Not true. He used Buck, and Roy Nichols & Grady Martin in the studios. Buck didn't make Tommy. Tommy gave Buck his first start in the studios before Buck was ever heard of so Tommy made Buck. He tried to take credit for some songs that Tommy wrote & tried to chisel Merle out of money was owed to him. Read the book by Eileen Sisk titled "Buck Owens, The Biography" if you want to really learn about the real Buck.
this is a great song written by Werley Fairburn. I remember years ago hearing it by Autry Inman. Tommy Collins does a great job, too. I do like Jim Reeves' version, also.
I loved this ever since I heard it back in the '50's. As I recall, the flip side was the big hit for Mr. Collins. But this record made my heart soar. I must have played it many hundreds of times, since. The effect is still great. But there'll always be those times when I was a teenager!
Gentleman Jim Reeves recorded it many years later, and it hit #1 on the country charts. It's great, but Tommy Collins' version was always #1 with me!
This is very wonderful--and very personal to me. When I was 12 years old in 1963, I knew Tommy personally. He was our minister. He baptized myself, my brother, and at least one (if not another) sister. Wanda--or Ronnie--if you watch this occasionally and look at the comments--know that I was very grieved by his passing and I didn't find out till years after the fact. I was in 5th grade when Ronnie was in 4th. My Grandmother was Floyce Sims. And people new me as Lenny.
What a talented artist Tommy was. He could sing a novelty or love song and keep it pure country. Some of his songs have been sung by many other artists and he will never be forgotten. It's hard to choose a favorite but this is at the top of my list. Thank you for posting this winner. - Paula

Tommy Collins Are You Ready To Go, by Tommy Collins?
Starts of with,
Friends as we live out our lives here on earth
There's only one way we can fail
And that is live just for life here today
