Supporting Stalin was the biggest mistake of the war,it would pretty much guarantee the economic failure of all the western powers. Had we left the SU to totally fend for itself, it would have collapsed, we still would have won the war and there would have been no cold war, which bankrupted England and the US.
When I was in High School in the early 70's I knew a man very well who was a "belly gunner" in a B17 flying fortress. He was in his early 50's when I knew him. He flew over 20 missions in Italy and Germany. He remembered quite well the raid on Dresden. His mission was daylight raid following the British night raid. He said the destruction was incredible. Also, in March 1945 he got to fire at an ME-262 Jet fighter from his belly gun (twin .50's). He said he "didn't even come close"...
Fortunately the Germans never built a heavy bomber. Even the "Blitz" was carried out with (relatively) small numbers of medium bombers. Germans had nothing like the Lancaster, B17, B24, etc. Germans never bombed British or Soviet Factories to any degree. East of the Urals the Soviet Union won the war through it's uninterrupted, Mass Production of tanks, aircraft, munitions and artillery pieces. Germans never interfered with allied manufacturing. Bombing civilians is a waste of resources...
@randy109 true germany never made a 4 engined aircraft because they thought heavy bombing un able to win a war, but they did bomb our manufacturing it would of been a priority, the only reason soviet factory's werent bombed at first is because starling moved them all east and when the army caught up they were bombed but still they were able to mass produce tanks, at times even with out being painted and even with out a roof above them
