I'll say this about microsoft...they stand behind there product. I have experienced system failure & they replaced it for free. a friend of mine bought a ps3 & had system failure & sony wanted him to pay for fixing it.

Original 360s are known to break the fuck down. Dust wears the console down a lot faster than other consoles. The majority of gamers know the history it has in terms of malfunction. Microsoft knows it. Everyone I know including myself who has owned one of the original white 360 consoles has had it red ring. It's also a fact that 90% of people who game don't clean their systems. If you regulary clean it with compressed air, you're not likely to have it breakdown. Mine hasn't red ringed in years.
@mellowman1978 Dust isn't too relevant in RRoD. It's the lead free solder they use. The heating and cooling cycles of the GPU heat stress the solder and eventually you end up with bad connections between the GPU and the board. Dust may restrict airflow and cause it to heat up a few degrees more, but that won't make any difference since it has nothing to do with overheating. To reflow the solder you have to get the temp to 220 degrees C. Highest I've measured on the GPU while running was around

My buddy couldn't get his 360 to stay on longer than 1 minute after powering up the machine 2 weeks ago. He got some CRC Duster, blew his drive and vent system out and the dude was playing Battlefield 3 all night problem free. Never had to to send it in.

@mellowman1978 70 degrees C. I have to heat it up to over 3 times its running temp to fix it so overheating isn't the issue. Some of the ones I have reflowed have RRoDed again so I'll reball it and completely replace the solder with stuff that won't be heat stressed. Also a console is mainly for people that want something easy to use so they shouldn't be expected to clean dust out of it.

I finally compared both systems, i own a ps3 and 20 plus games. I love the cod series but i always have horrible lag when i play black ops. My friends had been telling me all this time that they never have any problems when they play black ops, well today one of my friends came over to my house with his xbox and played black ops. I can honestly say that black ops had zero lag and the gameplay was really smooth.

However, the 360 S doesn't need the extra fan. I just got one because it gets warm in my room easy, especially during the summer. I'd do the same for the PS3 to insure that it lasts.

Get an Xbox 360 S. Those things don't break down nearly as much as the originals did.
The problem is that the old ones were rushed out and weren't designed correctly. The Xbox 360 S is much better at keeping heat off of the GPU and CPU. So its chances of failure are much lower than before. Last I checked, it had less than a 5% failure rate.

He even made sure his room was never too warm, and that the environment around the console was as dust free as possible. A little less than two years later, the console had an RROD. The following Christmas, his parents bought him an Elite. That was early on in high school.

I have both consoles and I play multiplayer alot. I have the 360 Slim and I love the gaming experience. The only problem is, I don't know that much people that have an Xbox. (P.S. I had 22 people in my 8th grade year. I went to a Private school) For the Ps3, I don't that gaming experience cause I always get like 3 chopper gunners per game. But, I have more friends that play PS3 but I'm better than all of them.

Get an Xbox 360 S. Those things don't break down nearly as much as the originals did.
The problem is that the old ones were rushed out and weren't designed correctly. The Xbox 360 S is much better at keeping heat off of the GPU and CPU. So its chances of failure are much lower than before. Last I checked, it had less than a 5% failure rate.

@SuperSocomSeals The arcade wasn't that great of a console. It was one of the earlier models that shit out after a short period of time. My friend had one and took really good care of it. He even made sure his room was never too warm, and that the environment around the console was as dust free as possible. A little less than two years later, the console had an RROD. The following Christmas, his parents bought him an Elite. That was early on in high school.

I have the xbox 360 arcade and it is a wonderful console although i have never owned a PS3 i am really looking forward to buying one for my birthday and im pretty sure each console has there own flaws and advantages

I have both consoles and I play multiplayer alot. I have the 360 Slim and I love the gaming experience. The only problem is, I don't know that much people that have an Xbox. (P.S. I had 22 people in my 8th grade year. I went to a Private school) For the Ps3, I don't that gaming experience cause I always get like 3 chopper gunners per game. But, I have more friends that play PS3 but I'm better than all of them.

ive had an xbox 360 arcade edition since 2008 and it hasnt broke down.ive only heard about elites breaking down but to all those people who think they have to buy the most expensive type to be cool and bragg and stuff, thats what you get so i say just buy and arcade because i have never heard anybody complain about and arcade.

You do have a valid point: The older consoles were built to last... and I mean LAST. I've got a 20-year-old Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and it STILL works. Newer machines are built to be replaced - considered "disposable". Good comparison. Good points. :)

I'll admit the ps3 is awesome and probably even better mainly because the free network but for me it just won't work because one thing xbox is better at is THE PRICE. I just can't afford a ps3.
