Red Tails is another example of Hollywood film makers not doing a little home work on a historical subject. For example: the pilot at the end of the movie who shot down the ME262 jets? The real guy was Lee Parker, who survived the war and was an Ace pilot.
@MrKe4bss the real guys name was Lee Archer, not Parker, he was an Ace but he never shot down an ME262, he shot down 5 BF109s and I don't think he was still overseas with the 332nd when the Berlin mission happened. The ME262s were shot down on the day(24Mar1945) by Roscoe Brown, Robert Williams and Samuel Watts, two more ME262s and one ME163 were also claimed as probables (not confirmed kills) and three more ME262s were claimed as damaged.

For instance, the German destroyer that Lightning shoots up is in fact a British battleship! Besides the fact that no fighter plane could ever sink a warship with machine guns, Lightning is in a heap of trouble for that one! Still, I enjoyed it immensely! AZ

Ugh, certainly did not like this movie. My dad said the opening sequence reminded him of the movie Cars. The red text floating around was extremely obnoxious, the majority of the acting was lacking, and a number of scenes were very unnecessary. In some spots I couldn't even tell who the main character was.
I'm a total Star Wars fan, but it was a bad move for Lucas to finish his career with this movie.

I don't get this notion of someone having to be racist if they dislike this movie. Obviously the real history is amazing and we all have great respect for the Tuskegee airmen. The 332nd Fighter Group, a.k.a the Tuskegee Airmen, were deployed numerous times but were particularly successful in the campaigns in Europe. Even their fellow pilots in the bombers they protected took to calling them "Red-Tail Angels". This is American history at its best and it deserves proper respect.

I saw this movie today and it sucked. Regardless of whose name is listed as director, it has George Lucas' hack fingerprints all over it. The dialogue is cringe-worthy, no attempt is made to place any of the film's events into any kind of historical context, and the narrative is completely incoherent. The real Tuskegee Airmen deserve to have their amazing story told in a first-class motion picture. It's a real pity this isn't it.
i think with the dogfight scene it could ve been alot better, like it only focus on the main the characters and there was nothing going on in the background during a battle where you would see all the planes dogfight it out but it was a goo movie i just had expectations for it but that george lucas for ya.
A solid 8 out of 10. The acting was decent, the main cast of the young black pilots were the best. The big stars like Cuba Jr. and Terrance Howard did horrible in this film, their acting was almost as shit as the German Pilots that did One-liners like: "These guy are Rookies" or "Show no Mercy". Things like that took away from the much better acting from the main cast.The side stories were also shit, the stupid love story and prison break was sloppy. The main story was epic, the CGI was amazing.
This was a great movie and from the start I would like to say only T.Howard's character "Tackled racism..." (So thanks for making this review an immediate systematic cliche) He passed down info to Cuba's role and everyone else just " fought, fought, fought" so wtf are you talking about. It was a good take on American history all summed up in 2 hours with characters who wore their emotion, and the dialogue was toned down to counter radical responses from sub-groups. All in all it was a great film
Play Halo, Gears of War, Uncharted or even Modern Warfare and if you dont feel compasion for any characters in these games then stop playing pong and come to the future.
They have never seen late 40s early 50s movies like "Sands of Iwo Jima", I feel like that was the kind of dialogue the film was going for. To fair I have only seen clips of the film, but I do plan on seeing the whole thing.
Watch the 1969 film The Battle Of Britain. Compared to it this film is a total joke. You actually learn something about history with the 1969 film and it is told from both sides, English and German.
Dialogue: Okay, so it was spotty in some parts, mainly during the opening scene and one liners from extras.
I'm Black and I was actually surprised that the dialogue for the Tuskegee pilots was believable. They actually sounded like Black folks, not like out of touch white writers trying to write Black dialogue like most Hollywood movies. Kudos to George Lucas for being smart enough to get an experienced Black writer to write those scenes. In my opinion, Boondocks' McGruder got it spot on.

Im black and i liked this movie. Sure the acting was hookey at times and the beginning was a little blah with the bomber...but it gave me badass dog fights and it gave me some badass black heros who won fights and got laid. Lucas is an arrogant money making idiot. Ever since the phantom menace (and arguably "Howard the Duck"), everything has been about money for him. This was not him trying to make a sincere story into a sincere movie, he just made a sincere story into a box office juggernaut. Yes, the dogfights were awesome, but like they said they have no texture or importance. They just get in their planes and fight. And the ground story is just filler in between the fights.

Red Tails is a great film that begs for better production value. It is definitely worth watching even if you think the dialogue is "hoakie" (can you say Quentin Tarantino). The audience I saw it with gave it TWO sustained rounds of applause.

In the original Star Wars he changed the story a great deal such as Greedo shooting first instead of Han, or Obi-Wan's friendship with Anakin in Episode IV into a nagging wench in episode II and III. Hart's War Episode 1 is no different except he's focusing more on life before that pilot was shot down.

However, you are right about those of us who are racist coming out and just admitting they're racist. I for one am proud of this aspect of American history and I find this movie to be a wonderful piece of it brought to the big screen and put right in the face of racist whites of America.

I saw this movie today and it sucked. Regardless of whose name is listed as director, it has George Lucas' hack fingerprints all over it. The dialogue is cringe-worthy, no attempt is made to place any of the film's events into any kind of historical context, and the narrative is completely incoherent. The real Tuskegee Airmen deserve to have their amazing story told in a first-class motion picture. It's a real pity this isn't it.

i think with the dogfight scene it could ve been alot better, like it only focus on the main the characters and there was nothing going on in the background during a battle where you would see all the planes dogfight it out but it was a goo movie i just had expectations for it but that george lucas for ya.

A solid 8 out of 10. The acting was decent, the main cast of the young black pilots were the best. The big stars like Cuba Jr. and Terrance Howard did horrible in this film, their acting was almost as shit as the German Pilots that did One-liners like: "These guy are Rookies" or "Show no Mercy". Things like that took away from the much better acting from the main cast.The side stories were also shit, the stupid love story and prison break was sloppy. The main story was epic, the CGI was amazing.

This was a great movie and from the start I would like to say only T.Howard's character "Tackled racism..." (So thanks for making this review an immediate systematic cliche) He passed down info to Cuba's role and everyone else just " fought, fought, fought" so wtf are you talking about. It was a good take on American history all summed up in 2 hours with characters who wore their emotion, and the dialogue was toned down to counter radical responses from sub-groups. All in all it was a great film

Dialogue: Okay, so it was spotty in some parts, mainly during the opening scene and one liners from extras.
I'm Black and I was actually surprised that the dialogue for the Tuskegee pilots was believable. They actually sounded like Black folks, not like out of touch white writers trying to write Black dialogue like most Hollywood movies. Kudos to George Lucas for being smart enough to get an experienced Black writer to write those scenes. In my opinion, Boondocks' McGruder got it spot on.

Red Tails was suppose to be a fun fighter pilot movie for young folks, inspired by true events. And it was just that.
It was a fun, good movie. I'm going to see it again in theaters. The fight scenes were awesome!

Im black and i liked this movie. Sure the acting was hookey at times and the beginning was a little blah with the bomber...but it gave me badass dog fights and it gave me some badass black heros who won fights and got laid. We black viewers go watch tons of movies with white actors and praise them but when one black movies comes out people leave comments like "im not watching this movie cause its about a bunch of niggers" i hope a part 2 and 3 comes out.

I still give George Lucas credit because he came against a lot of opposition in the process of making this movie. Because of that, there were bound to be some flaws, but this movie opens the door for more black actors to be heros and not just a bunch of thugs, pimps and drug dealers. Lucas is an arrogant money making idiot. Ever since the phantom menace (and arguably "Howard the Duck"), everything has been about money for him. This was not him trying to make a sincere story into a sincere movie, he just made a sincere story into a box office juggernaut. Yes, the dogfights were awesome, but like they said they have no texture or importance. They just get in their planes and fight. And the ground story is just filler in between the fights.

In the original Star Wars he changed the story a great deal such as Greedo shooting first instead of Han, or Obi-Wan's friendship with Anakin in Episode IV into a nagging wench in episode II and III. Hart's War Episode 1 is no different except he's focusing more on life before that pilot was shot down.
I see where you're coming from, but it becomes clear when you understand Lucas.

And the term blockbuster means BLOCKBUSTER. Most of the crap Hollywood makes is high budget. Contraband, Joyful Noise, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. None of Tyler Perry's films have ever been hailed as blockbusters despite their popularity.
