  • I 100% agree with you, man.

    And thx for the video

  • I wonder if the horse would be receptive to someone spraying oven cleaner on it's dick?

  • I think this guy pulled me over once because the cop that pulled me over sounded like he was on his rag. You sound like a fag!

  • ya i get that we had to sell my horse because we couldent take care of her any more but she is in a good home and i dont know if shes still alive she was pretty old but i know she is or was in a good home and was happy or is happy but that makes sense i finally hear someone who makes sense about all of this you know look for a good home set a good example

  • "euthanize with a gun", your a dumb ass. euthanisation is a specific procedure done with a NEEDLE NOT A GUN

  • @webhijacker1

    eu·tha·nize/ˈyo͞oTHəˌnīz/

    Verb:

Put (a living being, esp. a dog or cat) to death humanely

  • Rick...if you were a woman I believe I'd do what I could to keep you all to myself. But, since your a man and I'm not a pulsing gaywad...I'll just have to continue to appreciate your vids, and comments on women regardless of what the 'protectors' think they are capable of doing with barn raised horses in groomed climate controlled arenas on their low ranking jumpers and trotters..btw, I'm all into harness these days..been alot of fun for my 3 year old and I together. Keep up the righteousness

  • Thank you for the information as we need to use it today. Thanks for the good info.

  • So, you're not going to shoot it? Sorry, I came here because someone told me to.

  • lmfao loving all the trolls trying to get arguments on this channel and agree with horseawareness many people are too keen to blame the horse for their own failure as a horse person, in my area in the uk i get people saying ahh this horse was trained by ...... this horse is amazing, i just think to myself thats nice to know shame u as the rider cant get it to preform at the level its been trained at then they go into a sj class and hit 1 fence and beat the horse out of the arena

  • cool buddy. Who carrys a gun when they go riding?

  • @ChloeRosie14 I do, we don't ride in a nice clean arena, there are black bear, wildcat and wolf on the trails here little girl

  • (continuation) They try to entertain the horse, they give the horse attention, and as for the boots, protecting your horse's legs is better than ending up with bowed tendons and pulled shoes. If you can't even agree with that because it's too prissy for you, that shows a hell of a lot about you. Horsemanship my ass.

  • @snowballjet : How would I know that when I went to your page I would see a know it all kid yanking their horse around barrels with a pain bit. I can't fix stupid. Go cause drama at your barn, I am sure you are good at that.

  • @horseawareness

You should make a video of someone shooting the horse in the penis to death. LOL! : ) : o : (

  • @snowballjet your gonna get beat with a steel pipe, i can just see it happening

  • You know, I watched a lot of your videos just because I thought you seemed knowladgable. Though you may or may not be, I got to just past 6:00 and stopped, because it pisses me off that someone could be so sexist and belligerent. Just because you've seen women put horses down doesn't mean all women put horses down for the fun of it. You're being stereotypical, and it's not even a goo stereotype. The people with the stalls, toys and boots, genuinely CARE for their horse. They try to entertain the

  • oh the end to that comment was "put a horse out of his/her misery when in a tragic state! If you dont then you are only causing your horse more suffering...whom call this intelligent "I say hes right and you have shit for brains!!" Wouldnt you want to be put out of YOUR misery??? Answer that one with an intelligent statement!!

  • What this guy is doing is saying "look, if yer out there riding n something bad happens, like your horse breaks his leg for instance" Would you NOT want to put him or her out of thier misery the proper way? Come on people! Granted these horses are not tied correctly but damn it if I was out riding my horse and he got hurt I would put him out of that misery as quick as possible! Now all you little rich kids can say what you want but this guy is simply telling you how to put a horse out of misery

  • @Becca07ful you carry a gun while out riding? in the uk it is illegal for anyone but a vet or knackerman or slaughter facility to euth a horse, and obv guns arent legal here even if they were i could never put down my own horse, but grant id hate waiting with her in pain for a vet to come maybee up to an hour later..x

  • guys calm down welcome to the real world jackasses

back when horses where the only means of transportation besides trains

if a horse could not do the work or what it was supposed to they were

treated as if they were machines and so if they didnt do it they were put down

  • Your stupid.

  • To all of the idiots badmouthing him: SHUT UP. The truth hurts, doesn't it?

Even though I say that, not all women riders do exactly what you (horseawarness) say. I practice natural horsemanship, am a girl, and would NEVER put down a horse for something stupid. I'd keep him as a pet, I don't care if I could no longer ride him. But I do know many girls (and a few boys) who would put down their horse if they were no longer useful. It's disgusting and horrible.

  • Nothing like telling sickos publicly how to kill the animals we love

  • I love horses, they are so cute. These two horses on this Video look healthy and that's nice to see. . Thanks for the posting.

  • a bitch isnt all bad.

sorry this is so long, wasnt intended to be.

anywho, if thats the women you know, Im sorry thats a sad way to have an opinion. but I for one will not be sterotyped into being a bad horse owner just cause I'm a girl.

actually I'm also flip opposite of what you described. except the showing, and giving him his treats and if he enjoys eating and jumping, heaven forbid me abuse my horse.

    Have a nice day

i Havent seen the rest of your videos, but I enjoy the concepts i've seen :)

  • But that shows something about your character.

and sometimes some horses are so badly lame that it isn't fair to them to stand in a field in pain. Horses with injuries like a broken leg? oh he'll be fine i'll just set him out to the pasture for a year and he'll be perfect. No it's not fair to the horse.

Also I don't care if you think I'm a barn witch, and I'm not gonna lie I can be quite the bitch, when people think its okay to reef at their horses mouthes (not that you do) But sometimes being..

  • I'm sorry, I found your videos informative but this is just horrible. Not having to put a horse down.

It's your comments afterwards about women ? You're kidding me right?

No I'm not trolling, and I'd rather brush my horse for a year when he's lame thanput him down.

Yes, I show. I jump and I do western as well, and I put his mane in pretty braids. But I am far from the type of people you describes. Not only is it soo unsportsmanlike to put other people and disaplines down, and sterotype us all...

  • I just discovered your vids today... Thanks! I wasn't raised arnd horses and had no formal training as a youth. I'm 40(ish) now and had to figure alot of this out on my own. Trial and error, poor horse (mine lol). Have had in the nbrhood now of 20 super healthy horses and am doing fine. Your vids help to re-enforce some of what I do to educate my own. Will continue to watch with much interest! THANKS!!

  • whew..i thought you were gonna shoot them!!!!

  • hey Rick. what do you do if your riding out and the horse does happen to break a leg and your far out.. and you don't have a gun?? what do you do then? i've always wondered that!

  • Hey man. I watch a lot of your videos and you seem to know what your talking about and you seem like a cool dude. Do you run any clinics or anything? If you do I would really appreciate it if you came and did one in New Zealand. I have been working with horses for just under a year but there aren't many horsemanship teachers here.

    Cheers.

  • Great video I think the trolls missed the point and didn't watch the whole video I definitely agree with you that these are not toys to be replaced you made a commitment to a living being and you need to uphold that oath

  • if he was a bad horse he would of attacked you by now :( :( :( :(

  • Thanks for the info. This could be invaluable should anything ever happen. Don't let the trolls get you down.

  • good information, thankyou for sharing this. :)

As a woman, I like to think I'd be able to do this, if I had to, If my boy was injured. Sure, I *am* a big softie, I have trouble euthanising injuried wildlife from car accidents etc. No doubt I'd be a hysterical sobbing mess. But when its the right thing to do, I would do it so he's not suffering anymore.

Again, thanks for the useful information.

  • What beautiful horses you have, they are so cute!

  • I am deaf....I don't get it?....could you explain that to me uh?

  • very imformative video. nice to know, just in case.

i just hope you realize that not all women are self centered pansies that will throw their horse away for a guy. some of us really do love our horses like you do and try to do right by them.

  • what breeds are mr.t and buddy?

  • she turned out to be the best horse I have ever owned, I have spent thousands on her rehab but its paid off with her behavior. I hope I dont have to worry about putting her down for at least 20 more yrs but it is good to know in case you are a ways out and cant risk an injured horse trying to come back with you if you are to far out. not really fond of the women comments but I have sadly met woman like that.

  • I agree with you taking care of the horse that you own and dealing with the rehab if necessary. I bought a horse at auction 2 years ago as a yearling, she was so skinny you could see her ribs and hip bones and her spine. It took 7 months to get her to look like a horse again. I had talked to many vet about what I needed to get her back in good health instead of getting rid of her. when she turned 3yrs old she was strong enough to gentle I paid a trainer i knew well for his work

  • I just read your reply to my comment... wow, are you ignorant or what? I DID say why it's dangerous to tie a horse that long- they get hurt by getting tangled in the rope! I've had friends make that same mistake and ended up with serious rope burns which required antibiotics. I'm not an idiot, and ride and train horses of all kinds with great success. And BTW, that was the only thing I disagreed with- don't get so defensive.....

  • @dressagepinky : You are an idiot as well, go train your horses smartass and stay off my channel with your dumb advice. If you had a brain you would know that by protecting your horse from long ropes you set it up to fail, but since you are Ms. horse trainer, you run around like an idiot protecting and trying to save horses from your ignorance.

  • @horseawareness just wanted to let you know you can block people so they cant comment or enter your channel

  • out of interest sake @ mr gore, are you able to ride TB's as well or merely your pretty well behaved ponies, there is a definite difference. there is a big difference and a true horseman should have no problem with any breed. would love to see you work your er "magic" on a yearling. oh wait, barn witch right?

  • @101southafrican : right, barn witch, dumbass and idiot. Your ignorance shines through since you think it is the horse and not the person, just becuase you fail with TB it does not make TB hard to work with, it merely proves my point that idiots like to blame the horse for their inabilities and failures.

  • out of interest sake @ mr gore, are you able to ride TB's as well or merely your pretty well behaved difference. there is a big difference and a true horseman should have no problem with any breed. would love to see you work your er "magic" on a yearling. oh wait, barn witch right?

  • I'm a girl, and I honestly think most of your women jokes are kinda amusing. (in a funny way.) I've grown up with brothers, so its kinda second nature! Your horses are amazing beautiful and I love watching all your videos! (:

  • That horse is beautiful ! Is he/she yours?

  • My brother had to do this to his horse about 2 years ago when he broke his leg by panicking during a thunderstorm. He claims that it was the hardest thing that he ever had to do but found some relief and comfort that his horse died instantly by using the advice and technique shown in the video. Hopefully no one on here will be in this situation but if you are, this way is the best way I promise you.

  • DON'T KILL THESE INNICENT HORSE OR PONY!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOO FUCK U JERK FACED MOTHER FUCKER ASSHOLE!!!!!! >:(

  • Good info. Your comments about 'women' are uncalled for. Most women I know will put a horse down if suffering, not because they cant handle it. I have never seen that, ever. so please , you offend people with the sexist remarks.

  • @mydreamcasa1 : Please take your advice to an all women channel, I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK BARN WITCH. Freaking trolls... I hope everyone noticed that all the trolls are WOMEN???? wonder why that is? How is that for sexist BW.

  • @mydreamcasa1 They are rather unfair. I agree with them. If we wanted to just get info you might as well just say "information for men only cuz i cant bare women"

  • I have seen several (not all, I admit) of your videos and find them informative. I agree with you on all your horsemanship points. My own horses and I have a respectful, productive relationship and I love them dearly; I cannot critique your video when it comes to the horses. But about your views on horse owners-- specifically the women-- I'm not so sure. It seems in every video you've targeted women in particular. Perhaps more women are bad horse owners... but I think that's not quite correct.

  • @TigressofDDR He's a big, dumb Texan who clearly has some very, shall we say, "traditional" views on women. Some people (even some women) are going to agree with his views, and some (including me, and you and a LOT of others) are going to think he's an idiot.

Either way, it's a pretty inconsequential thing to get worked up about in the grand scheme of things.

  • first, iwant to thank you for posting this.now i know.lol.I have a beautiful egyptian arabian gelding out of Afire Bey V Moonstone and he is more than family to me..I cant stand seeing him out there grazing all shiny covered in SWEAT.uggh.i always hose him down gently after i (western) endurance run him, ecspecially in the summer.im glad you brought this to the attention of others it really helps other people understand REAL horsemanship.i think people who know western have more horsemanship TBH

  • i actually learned this by watching as the bugle sounds

  • Well, since there is no "Like" or "Dislike" buttons. I "Like"!

You sound like a very common sence person, good video.

  • my personal opinion is that you shouldn't shoot a horse, but i come from Aus so we don't even keep guns, personaly when you ride take a phone, go with someone or don't go to far from home, so help is in easy reach. and @dressagepinky if you did his his other vids, he trusts his horses, you see them standing there so calmley he trusts them and they trust him, enough said.

  • @2101lovelilly this is good advice for people in north america. we go on rides where you can't get phone service and even if you did the vet would have to be flown out by helicopter. meanwhile the horse is suffering. I don't ride with a gun so much to deal with the preditors Its there in case something happens to my horse. I havn't had to do it and hope I never have to but it can and does happen.

  • @123456789mischief i didn't say this is bad advice, its good advice, but harder for me to follow this advice, i always go riding with someone, and there are no 'preditors' in a way here, except dingos, but they don't exist in all parts of, Aus, and we don't have miles, and miles of 'un manned' territory, (do u get that, not that, that, was the best way of putting it) not saying this is bad advice, its good advice, just hard for me to follow.

  • @2101lovelilly sounds fair. not having guns is that a personal choice or just tough to get one there? from what I know of australia I thought you were more sparcly populated than canada.

  • @123456789mischief well, you can get hand guns, but thats it, unless, your in like the Federal Police, but that special, its very hard to get guns, you hav to live in a rural area, many other exceptions and its very hard, im only 15 so i can't get one, (over 21) and here we have a number that can be contacted even when there is no reception, i don't get how it works, but much of Aus, like the out, out back is unliveable, around 80% of us live by or near the coast

  • @2101lovelilly similer to canada then. only diferance is we pretty much live along the border with the usa. your to hot in the middle and were to cold on the top. a lot of the riding area we go in would be near imposible to get a vet to even if you had a helicopter. heavily treed no place to land and your probably looking at over 5000 just for the helicopter to get to where you are.

  • @123456789mischief yep, same, but we really don't have many threats hear so the horse, wouldn't get eaten by preditors, depends on where you are, though, (wild dogs are the only real threat but not many) there is always cattle farms near trail places anyway, so in need you can just run of to there, people are always willing to help

  • I hate to critique this video, yes the shooting advice is dead on, but these horses are tied way too long and my first reaction is- they could break a leg getting hung up in their leadropes.....sorry- I know you're probably gonna say something nasty, but just observation. I agree with your opposition to a lot of the things you listed, I feel the same way. You are totally entitled to your opinion, as we all are!

  • @dressagepinky : REALLY, you hate it but you choose to do it. Everyone that has watched all my vids and read my website and people who are horseman and understand horses, now know that you do not have any idea about what you are talking about. You keep your opinion, it shows you lack of understanding and trust of a horse. You actually made my point perfectly when I talk about people that think they know will always tell poor advice.Better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it.

  • @dressagepinky : I hate to tell you this so bluntly, and you probably don't like it and won't agree and you may say something nasty. But this is my opinion and we are all entitled to it. Until you understand why do it and how it is done and what purpose it is done, it is really foolish to comment and try and correct it. If you want to make an educated comment, then explain why my reasons for do it in wrong. Since you don't know that, the point is moot.

  • @horseawareness I can't believe you chewed her out for saying the horses shouldn't be tied up like that. That's so professional.. lol And. That's a little hypocritical. If I remember correctly, you said that someone threw away the piaffe whip you were using because it wasn't hurting their horse enough. I really doubt you understand the classical dressage aproach to horse training.

  • @dressagepinky I added to your little comment thing. It's down lower. I just wanted you to see it lol his comments toward you mad me laugh a little...

  • On my birthday last year, my horse had an accident with my friend. He claimed that my horse was dangerous, and they were going to put him down. I managed to persuade my parents not to, but they said that if he didn't improve after however many months, he was going. :(

Luckily things turned out okay but I think it was totally unfair to blame my poor horse. yes, he is a late developer and is still very immature, but that is no reason to kill him!

  • BIG ASSHOLE DOING THIS!!!! THE DAY THEY WILL DO IT TO YOU I HOPE THE PERSON WILL BE LAUGHING TOO AND MAKING FUN OF YOU! SUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Calisto2808 : BIG ASSHOLE DOING THIS!!!! THE DAY THEY WILL DO IT TO YOU I HOPE THE PERSON WILL BE LAUGHING TOO AND MAKING FUN OF YOU! SUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!

    Calisto2808

LMAO, if you watched my other vids you might understand my humor, if you don't like the video don't PRESS THE PLAY button. Feel free to stay off my channel and go have another double cappuccino, good grief, take a chill pill.

  • VERY WELL SAID!!!! A LIFE IS A LIFE.

  • Ok now, not many people agree with me, but as far as I'm concerned, I don't care. I believe all animals should be given a chance, euthanasia shouldn't even exist, that is God's job, although many people think they are God, sorry to burst your bubble, your not. There is no euthanasia for humans, why? What makes us so much more important? NOTHING. There is always a solution, but people are just too stupid, too lazy, and just don't care because they are selfish. We don't have the right to do this..

  • @ilovecub1 so you think it is ok to let that animal be in pain? thats just cruel. besides if you know if an animal will die and has no chance of getting better, would you rather let it die slowly and painfully or quick and painless. I don't agree with it when they kill the horse or animal for no reason or something like a broken leg, thats when it is wrong.

  • @ilovecub1 they do have euthansia for humans. its called a bullet. cops use it all the time.

  • Thanks for saying what needs to be said

  • I'm glad to have found this video. Shooting a horse would be a last resort for me, but I am glad to know how to do it if something should happen. In the 13 years I've owned/worked with horses, I have had only had to euthanize one horse due to sever colic. My horses live outside with a shelter. They don't wear blankets unless it's freezing rain outside, and they are happier and healthier than the spoiled horses at the boarding farm I work for.

  • @toaturner1988 I agree about the good info and it being a last resort, but I have to say that I moved my horse from a stable where he was turned out daily, to a pasture with a shelter (in my back yard). While he is happier about the extra attention, I notice that he is not as relaxed, or well rested as he was when he was stalled, nor does he lay down much anymore. Which he did on a nightly basis at the stable. Honestly I can't wait to get my barn up so he can have his stall back.

  • Thanks for the information. I know its a touchy subject and people get all weird about it, but hey, Id like to know how to help my best friend if something ever happened. It would break my heart to see him unbearable pain and not know what to do.

  • lmao that horse is like "I hate you so much right now"

  • I dont know but cant a person buy that euthanizing shot the vets have, and have it in the medicine cabinet. Probably not available to public I'd guess. I dont want to have a gun but those are available. Ah well, probably just have to wait for the vet, it's never easy.

  • @silversunny I asked a vet about that once when our horse was colicing and we didn't know whether to wait though the night or have him euthanized. The vet said that they have to be extremely careful of with the stuff they use to euthanize horses and closely monitor it. He did tell us if we wanted to wait throughout the night and things got worse, that he would recommend a well placed bullet. We did end up having the vet euthanize our horse though since I don't have a gun.

  • The worst is when after along ride, a person doesn't wash their sweaty horse. My horse always gets bathed, cooled off and hand grazed for a good hour after I ride him.

  • The comment below this is great, more advice from a yahoo woman that rides like a sack of potatoes has to ride her horse with a tie down, his pulling on the reins with one hand and hanging on to the horn with the other hand, running the crap out of horse on barrels and then wants to give me advice about horsemanship.I would reply to her but then she would just delete her comment for looking like an ass.Watch her video and learn how not to ride. She is probably a life long horse owner or barn mgr.

  • @horseawareness Thanks I was way off on where I would have placed the shot. hope it never comes up but I would rather know how to do it proper.

  • when tieing a horse up with a "friend" nearby, make sure you tie them both short enough that they can't do what you described. A horse should NEVER be tied that long

  • Thank you. Very informative, although I certainly hope I'll never have to do it.

  • Excellent video.

    And perfectly expressed.

    Greetings

  • While this video is very informative, and you are obviously really knowledgable - I think you are exagerrating about the type of people that would quickly euthanize. I wrap my horses legs and braid his mane when I have to for a show. I also feed alfalfa other things. I would never euthanize him unless it was the absolute last option. I'm sure there are people out there who would, but it's unfair to make such a statement. I don't mean to seem rude. I subscribed to you, great videos!

  • @bcbeaupied : Not rude at all, I am fully aware that not everyone will agree with everything I believe. But I believe what I do from my experiences and what I see too often. That is my frame of reference. I know I upset some people when I say something that hits home. I am anti show so I upset show people, I am anti bit so I upset bit people, I am anti stalls, I am anti shoes, I am anti color (pink), I am anti braid only since it prevents a horse from using it's tail, not for any other reason :)

  • @horseawareness aren't shoes and stalls ment to help and protect horses?

  • @bcbeaupied :Cowboys don't like that I don't promote spurs, People that jump horses hurt horses legs, people that race horses want them to win.I see things from a horses point of view,I try and be a voice for the horse, that pisses people off since a lot don't want to hear what a horse has to say, they only care what they want. They treat a horse as a possession to be owned. I think I am lucky to have horses in my life. I also know people show love in many ways. Not all love is good for the horse

  • @horseawareness I completley agree with you, the type of love a horse needs is so different than many people understand. I do show my horse, but because we both enjoy it. He loves going to new places and seeing new things. Im not a big time show person, I just do little low level dressage schooling shows. Yeah, I love making him look nice, but I also let him be a horse :) We go out on trail rides all the time in just a halter. -cont-

  • @horseawareness - cont- He's not kept in a stall much - he's out all night with other horses, and most of the time during the day I have him out. When he is in a stall, it's a nice time for him to nap and stay cool in the FL sun. I too think im lucky to have horses in my life, and I know my horse (who a rescued OTTB) has the best life a domesticated horse could have :)

  • i dont wanna kill horses :(

  • Again another good vid, thanks for posting it. I also been spending alot of time reading your website and learning alot. from it. thank you.

I did have one question thou and how do you feel if you had a quarter horse HYPP positive, One of my friends bought a horse last year from that BREEDER. those people are heavy into shows, one of their stallions is HYPP positive, and i guess it passed it on to this one. I personal seen an hypp attack its scary as heck. Some people say put it down.

  • @larasa007 : HYPP is not that bad and a horse can live a pretty normal life, NO alfalfa or high protein, grass hay, watch the weight and a vet can control a lot of things. If a horse was having attacks daily and quality of life was bad then I would consider putting it down, but from what I have seen they live pretty normal lives. I bet the horse is pretty, most HYPP that are bred by breeders (agrrrhhh) look nice but very poor judgment and cruel for the babies that live with it.

  • @horseawareness Your right Rick. That's a beautiful horse. I am sure it can enter any show ring and come out very successful, but i still question the ethics of these breeders that bred Hypp horses, to me that is just wrong and i am amazed that AQHA doesn't set higher standards of Eligibility Requirements for registration and any horse HYPP couldn't be registered, I think that would bring up the quality of the breed. I would rather have a not so nice looking horse but sane and healthy

  • Folks for same bad reasons you list often sell their horses to kill buyers at auction and horses get shipped to Mexico to be slaughtered. Very sad. -- Glad you are commenting about this.

  • Hey Rick, I would like to know does a horse have to be put down if it can never walk again?

  • @honeyhearts27 : Yes, a horse needs to walk to get blood to hooves, to build muscle to support his weight, if a horse lays down too long it will damage internal organs and cause other issues. Walking is life to horses, however some horses have had their broken leg fixed, but not often, once they break, they pretty much done. :(

  • lol, you were a cop?

  • @Andrea9514 : I have a couple of pics on my photo page of my site.

  • I fell out with my sister in law for putting down a horse. The horse was a mare trotter adopted from the track. She was pesky, and smart and nice. But she got a bit thrushy from an eternally muddy pasture, and she got a bit out of shape because the food wasn't adjusted, and she got a bit stiff because she only went from stall to muddy pasture. And they got a shiny new horse! The mother in law said to me "But she was so very old and couldn't be ridden." The mare was 15! I was so angry.
