"Why didn't somebody tell me he had ...one of those...things!" The funniest part about that line is that I was just as surprised as a kid as he was. They don't even hint to the batwing, Batman just comes charging out in one to trumpets playing.
lol I always notice the reaction of the guy to his left. he just blinks a few more times than normal, but reserves his reaction. and then a second lady "CAHMAHHHN GET OUTTA HEEEE-YUHHHH!!" lmao shooting the revolver carelessly in the air....
That was so Joker of the 90's I rememeber him casually killing his henchmen and innocent bystanders alike. Remember him killing one guy with his joker venom just so he could take over his abondaned amusement park (The Killing Joke). :)
I was a little confused but, why did The Joker shoot and kill Bob? Did he shoot Bob because The Joker was angry that Batman stole his balloons? If so, that was strange since Bob is one of The Joker's closest henchman and he should have used Bob's gun to shoot someone in the crowd, not a henchman. (Of course, if he was going to shoot his henchman Bob, he might as well shoot the rest of his henchman).
@afriendofbean He went from being angry to passive aggressive, so he took the concept of mourning and turned it into something funny. Bob was his closest henchman, and now that he's dead, he needs time alone to 'mourn' him, but really he just wanted the crowd out of there because he knew the Batman was coming. Lol. With an extended explanation into that, he probably knew Batman had weaponry on his jet and since Batman doesn't kill, he would've been too focused on the innocent bystanders than him
@Arlgm True. I guess he did feel sad about killing Bob. When he said that he needs time alone I thought that meant that he was feeling sad that his balloons were gone. Yes, Batman did have weapons on his jet. Also, some of the weapons he has on his suit are a "Bat O Rang", a gun that shoots a rope with a knife in front (on this film he used that gun to cause the Joker's leg to get caught on a gargoyle statue), and he has a weapon device he used on "The Catwoman" on the second film.
@ZyxthePest I guess the reason he doesn't question The Joker is because, as The Joker's henchman, he probably feels he doesn't have the right to question his boss who is The Joker.
Poor Bob. He was the Joker's most loyal goon, and his boss wasted him over something that he had no control over. This is brilliant, because it shows how cold and emotionless the Joker really is.
Thats your opinion, but I think this film is awesome. Me and one of my mates always debate about Keaton as Batman whether he was a good choice, I say he did a good job, he thinks otherwise. Can I ask you what is it about Keaton playing Batman you dont like?
I was roflmfao when he stuttered when he said "why didn't somebody tell me he had one of those.....things?!!" XD def best part of this clip, thumbs up if you agree
batman 89 reminds me of spiderman 1...batman forever reminds me of ironman 2 ...batman and robin reminds me of spiderman3..batman begins kinda reminds me of ironman 1..the dark knight reminds me of spiderman 2
He killed him cause he was his intel, and he failed him. That's why he said, "Why didn't someone tell me he had one of those things?" Shooting Bob was another way of saying, "You're fired!".
@napalmman420 I love how he walksdown in a state of shock,stands still to regain his composure.....and then "He stole my balloons!!!!!!! Why didnt anybody tell he had one o those.......(Realises he has no idea what it is) Things?!"
I'm gonna get bad shit for this but I swear to me, this was the better Joker then Heath Ledger, this Joker was like Freddy Krueger and Heather Ledger was like Hannibal Lector both worked but I like this one better, more famous lines and memorable moments and Jack Nicolson an uncanny Joker!
@cvm8281 i'll give it to you... nicholson's is classic and is more true to the comics... but heath had everyone mesmerized... you can't say his performance didn't hypnotize you in TDK... it was like... where is heath? this is pure joker... acting at its finest... whereas jack's was basically... jack Nicholson... doing really good acting in make up... to very different interpretations... but heath's was masterful...
@erikisimo heaths was satanic and too dark, and i cant tell what fanboys want, they want things close to the comics, but heath ledger's couldn't have been farther from the comics
@Libx920 Actually, Heath's couldnt have been closer to the comics. Youre in the minority just like ppl who love 1997's Batman and Robin so Im not interested in a rebudle. Read a comic, dont base all your knowledge on the time burton movie. He got so much wrong with batman, the character, and the overall everything.
@KevsHardLemonade I don't know what comics you have been reading, but to me it looks like he was still a smiling crazy guy with gimmicks when I last read about him
@Ellrc That master of improvisation,Lean tall Crazy pitched voice,Ruins Batman & everyone around him emotionally and mentally. Laughs at the macabre. Is an untrustworthy psycho, Batman's arch-nemeisis. = Heath Ledger's portrayal and the comics. Tim Burtons = fat old short guy in a suite who killed waynes parents (really??), an elder mob boss, and is virtually no threat and leaves noone tainted at all once he defeated (or mudered by batman)... doesnt sound very close to the comics does it
@KevsHardLemonade On the other hand: take a good look at the joker from the comic "the killing joke"... now look at Heath Leadgers joker. If you think those are a perfect match, you gotta admit you're lying to yourself. The new joker is a trend joker: dark, doesn't laugh that much and uses lots of explosives
He is a great villain, I'm not denying that but... he's joker. He might be actually better than the classic joker but he's not the joker
@Ellrc Wow Killing Joke is the CLOSEST inspiration for the Dark Knight. Its almost a perfect adaptation. If you want to convince yourself of disapproval no matter what, thats fine but the fact remains. Switch Gordon in that story with Dent, Joker's insane ramblings on different origins that he doesnt even really remember, Batman trying Not to kill him, switch Barbara with Rachel, and of course the whole thing about Joker wanting to prove anyone no matter how noble can be driven mad and corrupt.
@KevsHardLemonade Hm, I guess we just have different viewpoints. While you seem fixed on the story element which are copied, I see difference in the style they are portraied.
I don't think we'll be able to change the other's mind
@Ellrc I dont wanna sound like im imposing anything on you but seriously, The joker is lean (thin), tall, and humoursly evil. Heath Ledger was those things. Wore purple, green hair, and red lips. Nicholson (whom I love as an actor) was chubby, short, and his outfit actually looked like you could accidently find a WB logo somewhere..Tim Burton has publicly said he doesnt give a shit about Batman and Joker's mythology... but youre right pointless arguement.
@KevsHardLemonade The thing I meant were gimmicky schemes, silly weapons, a permanent smile on joker's face (not scars which look like one), and of course what actually made him the joker: being dunked into chemical waste which turned him into the strange being that he is. Heath Leadger seemed TOO realistic, even if that is a good thing. Dammit, now I continued the discussion. Also he didn't seem that humerous to me, he wasn't even laughting all that much.
@Ellrc In the comics, Joker's a little of both..gimmicky clownish weapons and other times the way he is in the dark knight. Fundamentally though, he's a nihilistic madman who turns people against each other and causes chaos. He usually has a sick, morbid sense of humor (every single thing he says in tdk is dark humor). He's a master of improvisation (he can manipulate any situation he's in). He sees the world and its establishment and moral code as a joke and lives only to amuse himself.
Actually I find Ledger's version of the Joker in TDK way too serious and not funny at all. He is just some generic madman that is supposedly realistic but doesn't scare you because he is too random. Hannibal Lecter had principles, Anton Chigurh had principles. Ledger's (maybe I should say Nolan's instead) Joker tried to rationalize his chaos. He says he has no plans and believes in chaos, yet every single scheme is meticuously and flawlessly planned.
@McLarenMercedes Joker not was meant to be hilarious, gut bustingly funny like a seth rogen or jim carrey or whoever comedian..he is hysterical crazy and quirly but not funny to anyone but himself. He has a very morbid, sardonic sense of humor. Now, how over the top or not he is, depends on the story or interpretation. However, most of the time, he is a lier who contradicts himself (purposely or not), a manipulator who can't be trust, and doesnt care for anyone including himself.
@McLarenMercedes, Ledgers version of joker wouldn't have worked if he was simply cracking jokes and doing gags, his humor had to be a little more subdued and fit the context of the situation, the "magic trick" scene comes to mind as an example. Yet i have to agree that Nolan did limit the avenues of storytelling and characters he could have introduced with his realistic style and tone.
Hate to say this to you but Heath Ledger's version of the Joker is nothing like he has ever appeared in the comicbooks. The comicbook Joker had pale white skin, a disfigured face with a permanent smile on it and in one of his background stories he did indeed fall into a septic tank of some sort. Ledger wore white facepaint and had a smile he may or may not have carved himself
On top of that Ledger was never funny and the comicbook Joker never explained his actions or beliefs
Ledger was far from a lean and tall actor, and when the hell does that even become the most important aspect of the character anyhow?
You're focusing way too much on appearances, which automatically disqualifies you from any serious discussion.
That's like saying Malcolm McDowell wasn't anything like Alex appeared in the novel A Clockwork Orange, or focusing solely on what clothes Vito Corleone wore in the novel.
This "agent of chaos" nonsense was never in any comicbook.
@McLarenMercedes 6'1 is tall. I didnt say gigantic, I said tall. Besides, Im not only about appearances but that seemed to be the focus of arguement with whomever I was having the 'arguement' with.
I've read "Killing Joke" and that Joker is nothing like Heath Ledger's version of him.
Nobody cared about Rachel in TDK, and she was just sacrificed to give Harvey Dent some excuse to go out on a rampage, which lasted like 15 minutes and veered focus from the main story. Then for some reason they decide that Gotham won't accept that a man that lost his love and burnt his face would have every reason to go mad, and let Batman take the blame for it, which they all WILL buy.
Burton's version was just his version of the Batman mythos.
Nolan on the other hand makes a dark, crowded, dirty and corrupt Gotham City look like a nice, sunny and clean Chicago. HOW is that dark? A lot of TDK takes place in broad daylight for crying out loud. Scarecrow is given a short appearance to tie in with his disappearance in the first movie.
More "Bladerunner" and less "Heat". Gotham City isn't perfect Chicago.
Why make a superhero movie realistic? It doesn't work.
@erikisimo But u gotta keep in mind the times both came out. While Heath's was masterful , he had alot more to pull from than Nicholson. I mean Heath even got this version and Nicholson to pull from
@KidInsain Heath used Nicholson as an example for what NOT to do. Not that it was bad. Just diff interpretations for diff times in cinema history. Nicholson is iconic. But now heath's is also. Looks like Heath's required more discipline. As for the argument on this page about accuracy to the comics. Stop ppl. Both arguments lack knowledge of the comics. If you are aware of ALL of joker's interpretations, you'd know that both Nicholson and Heath are accurate AND inaccurate in different respects.

@erikisimo heaths was satanic and too dark, and i cant tell what fanboys want, they want things close to the comics, but heath ledger's couldn't have been farther from the comics
Libx920 1 year ago 2
@Libx920 Actually, Heath's couldnt have been closer to the comics. Youre in the minority just like ppl who love 1997's Batman and Robin so Im not interested in a rebudle. Read a comic, dont base all your knowledge on the time burton movie. He got so much wrong with batman, the character, and the overall everything.
KevsHardLemonade 1 year ago
@KevsHardLemonade I don't know what comics you have been reading, but to me it looks like he was still a smiling crazy guy with gimmicks when I last read about him
Ellrc 1 year ago
@Ellrc That master of improvisation,Lean tall Crazy pitched voice,Ruins Batman & everyone around him emotionally and mentally. Laughs at the macabre. Is an untrustworthy psycho, Batman's arch-nemeisis. = Heath Ledger's portrayal and the comics. Tim Burtons = fat old short guy in a suite who killed waynes parents (really??), an elder mob boss, and is virtually no threat and leaves noone tainted at all once he defeated (or mudered by batman)... doesnt sound very close to the comics does it
KevsHardLemonade 1 year ago
@KevsHardLemonade On the other hand: take a good look at the joker from the comic "the killing joke"... now look at Heath Leadgers joker. If you think those are a perfect match, you gotta admit you're lying to yourself. The new joker is a trend joker: dark, doesn't laugh that much and uses lots of explosives
He is a great villain, I'm not denying that but... he's joker. He might be actually better than the classic joker but he's not the joker
Ellrc 11 months ago
@Ellrc gah, meant to write "he's not joker"
Ellrc 11 months ago
@Ellrc Wow Killing Joke is the CLOSEST inspiration for the Dark Knight. Its almost a perfect adaptation. If you want to convince yourself of disapproval no matter what, thats fine but the fact remains. Switch Gordon in that story with Dent, Joker's insane ramblings on different origins that he doesnt even really remember, Batman trying Not to kill him, switch Barbara with Rachel, and of course the whole thing about Joker wanting to prove anyone no matter how noble can be driven mad and corrupt.
KevsHardLemonade 11 months ago
@KevsHardLemonade Hm, I guess we just have different viewpoints. While you seem fixed on the story element which are copied, I see difference in the style they are portraied.
I don't think we'll be able to change the other's mind
Ellrc 11 months ago
@Ellrc I dont wanna sound like im imposing anything on you but seriously, The joker is lean (thin), tall, and humoursly evil. Heath Ledger was those things. Wore purple, green hair, and red lips. Nicholson (whom I love as an actor) was chubby, short, and his outfit actually looked like you could accidently find a WB logo somewhere..Tim Burton has publicly said he doesnt give a shit about Batman and Joker's mythology... but youre right pointless arguement.
KevsHardLemonade 11 months ago
@KevsHardLemonade The thing I meant were gimmicky schemes, silly weapons, a permanent smile on joker's face (not scars which look like one), and of course what actually made him the joker: being dunked into chemical waste which turned him into the strange being that he is. Heath Leadger seemed TOO realistic, even if that is a good thing. Dammit, now I continued the discussion. Also he didn't seem that humerous to me, he wasn't even laughting all that much.
Ellrc 11 months ago
@Ellrc In the comics, Joker's a little of both..gimmicky clownish weapons and other times the way he is in the dark knight. Fundamentally though, he's a nihilistic madman who turns people against each other and causes chaos. He usually has a sick, morbid sense of humor (every single thing he says in tdk is dark humor). He's a master of improvisation (he can manipulate any situation he's in). He sees the world and its establishment and moral code as a joke and lives only to amuse himself.
KevsHardLemonade 11 months ago
@KevsHardLemonade
"Joker" and not funny???
McLarenMercedes 11 months ago
@McLarenMercedes Joker not was meant to be hilarious, gut bustingly funny like a seth rogen or jim carrey or whoever comedian..he is hysterical crazy and quirly but not funny to anyone but himself. He has a very morbid, sardonic sense of humor. Now, how over the top or not he is, depends on the story or interpretation. However, most of the time, he is a lier who contradicts himself (purposely or not), a manipulator who can't be trust, and doesnt care for anyone including himself.
KevsHardLemonade 11 months ago
@McLarenMercedes, Ledgers version of joker wouldn't have worked if he was simply cracking jokes and doing gags, his humor had to be a little more subdued and fit the context of the situation, the "magic trick" scene comes to mind as an example. Yet i have to agree that Nolan did limit the avenues of storytelling and characters he could have introduced with his realistic style and tone.

@KevsHardLemonade
McLarenMercedes 11 months ago
@KevsHardLemonade
McLarenMercedes 11 months ago
@McLarenMercedes 6'1 is tall. I didnt say gigantic, I said tall. Besides, Im not only about appearances but that seemed to be the focus of arguement with whomever I was having the 'arguement' with.
KevsHardLemonade 11 months ago
@KevsHardLemonade
McLarenMercedes 11 months ago
@KevsHardLemonade
McLarenMercedes 11 months ago
@erikisimo But u gotta keep in mind the times both came out. While Heath's was masterful , he had alot more to pull from than Nicholson. I mean Heath even got this version and Nicholson to pull from
KidInsain 11 months ago
@KidInsain Heath used Nicholson as an example for what NOT to do. Not that it was bad. Just diff interpretations for diff times in cinema history. Nicholson is iconic. But now heath's is also. Looks like Heath's required more discipline. As for the argument on this page about accuracy to the comics. Stop ppl. Both arguments lack knowledge of the comics. If you are aware of ALL of joker's interpretations, you'd know that both Nicholson and Heath are accurate AND inaccurate in different respects.
erikisimo 11 months ago
@erikisimo All I was saying is that u cant compare the the two while giving both their due.

@KidInsain i'll take that :)
