So exciting, and to think they could pass each other without "permission", "DRS enabled", etc. And, to crown it all, mechanics working on those engines using screwdrivers and not lap tops! This was pure racing, and the best man and car won on the day. I got more excitement from this in 8 minutes than in the whole 2 hours of "modern" F1
@NicoWassermann Okay, where to start. The cars weren't as aerodynamically efficient for generating downforce back then so it was easier to slipstream and consequently pass your opponents.
The engines weren't covered with bodywork and the engine electronics weren't as advanced as they are now and on top of that the engines nowadays are under regulation that states that they cannot be opened during a season. The mechanics still use tools, it's the engineers that use the laptops.
Great video - great track. Look at the crowds, the space, the speed. How racing in general has lost the plot.
