@squishless there is a panel you can download for free which is finger friendly and you dont need to apply much force to it but it seems choppy sometimes which is not a huge problem when you get used to it.. it also has a high resolution and everything is crystal clear

i was also always happy with sony ericsson so i bought this phone.

but damn, this phone is very very slow, the touch screen buttons are very small, when someone calls you, you need to press on a very small button, the music speakers off the phone are bad, low volume.

well.. i just warn you..

they made some new versions of the xperia because the first xperia (this one) just sux...

don't listen to the sony exec... this phone is horrible, it doesn't have near the speed, capabilities or power of the iPhone. I spent 300 bucks (on contract) for this phone a couple months ago, had it for a month, gave it a decent try before i just got rid of it for an iPhone... the iPhone's size is excellent for watching videos, whereas the Xperia's size is miniscule... it is a ridiculous phone and sony should be ashame of themselves and give me my money back while they're at it!

yes it do come with pen, i have had sony phones for years, this i had to have. at first i hated it but once i updated it its now faster and it is the best phone i've had, i got my daughter an iphone, i had it for a couple of months before i gave it to her for xmas, it is a fantastic phone so easy to use but i found it to big and to gimmicy. i will be getting x2 shortly as i'm so use to this now. 5 stars for this video

What are the chances of you blasting your music using the speakers rather than using a headset? The speakers between the 2 are very similar.

My advice, choose which one you are more familiar with and invest on some good headset.

This Panels UI is probably the worst proprietary UI I have seen on a phone, worse than Samsung's TouchWiz, than HTC's TouchFLO, than everyone else's UI. I would hate to see this on SE's Android phone, the XPERIA X3 (Rachael). Scrap the Panels SE, I'd much rather have Android barebones on the Rachael if this is the alternative.
