  • The problem with the B16 is that it has absolutely no torque. It has 160 hp @7600 but just 150 Nm @7000. In drag, I think the torque is more important. Big torque + strong grip tires = good drag race XD My 1.8 TDCi Ford Focus could win against this Honda in a drag race. It has only 101 PS (98 hp), but it has 240(!) Nm. With good traction, it produces an enormous acceleration compared to what people predicts based on the low horsepowers...

  • just to point out drag times are mostly down to power-wieght ratios. swift gti's only weigh around 800kg with around 140hp= around 177hp/ton where as a civic vti's weigh around 1100kg with around 160hp = around 148hp/ton. Seeing as the civic didtn have any real (power gaining mods) and the swift had a 40hp nitrous dry shot i am surprised the swift only just beat the civic.

    sorry i was looking at 86 swift, but still i dnt see where u got ur figures from??

    1992 swift gti= 860kg (165hp/t)

    1995 civic vti (EK4)= 1105kg (147hp/t)

    almost 20hp/t is a big factor in a 1/8 mile

  • possibly i was wrong, because my 1.3 swift was about that. and the 1050kg of the honda was an earlyer civic, so my comment is fully wrong. sorry about that.

    the facts are that a small gti turbo (200hp)swift dous 0-100 in about 6 sec

    a big stock v8 (300hp) with 1500kg of car pulling it dous about the same...

    ONLY a stock swift gti cost under 1000 in holland

    a good muscle car about 10.000 over here

    so all you muscle fans can understand that most people go for a jap gti/v-tec

    and the petrol prices are 1.60 euro at the moment. thats 1 liter!!

  • Stock yes... but this one is modified. Exhaust/Intake/Tyres + 40hp Nitrous Dry Shot

  • @Marcoshary yes it has but if you buy a swift sedan with the 1.6 90bhp engine then you can easily tune its ecu above the GTI's power and I didn't mention any modifications like porting parts from the gti or putting a turbo in it!

  • lol despite the sake of argument, it doesn't really matter which of these cars will win. eventually both of these cars will be maxed out and both drivers will need a better car to adjust the difference between better cars and those cars.

  • you can actually run a swift with a 50-80 shot of no2 and it would be close to a n/a b16, I think stock vs stock the swift would outdo the civic, the b16 is nice, but my geo metro (a 55hp swift) on a 40 shot (coming to the total of 90, about a stock swifts power output) I never lost to a n/a honda, so in my opinion the swift would and should always win...

  • its kind of hard to compare stock vs stock cause these cars do not remain stock.their owners tend to tune them.one thing i know for sure.the b16a has much more potential than the g13b.i am always talking n/a.

  • Mate, there is no way a stock Swift GTi will outrun a Civic VTi. A Cultus GTi, which is the JDM version of Swift may hang with a VTi, but not a Swift because the export version was not very well thought.

    I mean this because the Cultus has several advantages: cams, 8600rpm cut, headers & intake manifold. The Swift has does not have that and comes with 7500rpm cut. That is a big disadvantage, this 1100rpm less because the gearing from 1 to 2 is too tall and really bogs the car down.

  • in this race weight to horsepower ratio wins.the b16a still remains one of the best and most loved by tuners 1.6 litter engines ever made, and the 1.3 G13B gti engine was definately considered a king in its category of 1.3 litters and was very ahead in its time,but unlike honda, the gti has a very weak transmission that cant handle brutal use.

  • youre right, the g13b is awesome, but the trannies are garbage. Anyone considering doing a serious horsepower car adapts something else in there.

  • yes, I am serious. This Civic has 1/8th mile (201m) time of 9.3 secs which is incredibly good considering its best 1/4 mile (402m) time is 14.9.

    There's simply not enough horsepower for top end. The swift is on nitrous the civic is n/a. It will never win unless it has more power.

  • you don't mention on the header of the video that the swift is on nitrous, that changes the deal.

    Off course a swift with equal power to the civic or more and carrying less weight will be faster, but the 200m race continues to be stupid IMO, a R/C car race would be more interesting in 200m

  • and you should indeed change the title to "n/a honda vti vs swift gti nitrous" otherwise people will think that stock gtis can beat vtis..which isnt true.i have driven both cars ..and the vti pulls much harder (stock vs stock always)

  • yeah, I didnt mean the shitty civic's lol, vti's, as far as i know its similar engine in the crx, i can consistently beat V6 commi's, raced a ute one time too, until 140km/h

  • well i own an ef which is simular to the crx, and it has a shitty engine.the d15b2 which has an output (stock) of 90hp.now..with this car i raced my friend's swift (only filter), and he seemed to be only half a car ahead of me.now imagine if i had the b16a with the 160hp (almost twice horcepower)

  • yeah, noticed in another of your posts thatu say it was unfair cos the swift was modded, the civic could've had some stage 1 stuff to it, regardless, work both engines an see what comes out on top, it's whatever the owner prefers.

  • The civic is indeed modded. It has:

    - Cold Air Intake through a hole in bumper

    - K&N Filter

    - Straight pipe Exhaust 2.25" (no mufflers, no cats)

    - Great Suspension

    - Great Tyres (Toyo R888)

  • The 160hp version is only one that i can't beat with stock Swift GTi - even 1.5 VTEC 115hp 0-100km/h is few meter behind me what You can see on my videos...

  • yea i know ..but this is due to the better horsepower/weight ratio the swift Gti has. :) i love both cars, (vti and the gti) even though swifts arent know for their good transmitions, my friend that owns one hasnt faced any problem with his tranny, but i love the vti cause of the vtec sound and the 60 more hp.

  • True, the tranny is weak. I have eaten out a few teeth of 2nd gear. But then there are always forged gears to put in... In this video the car has about 60HP less than it is using now, so I suspected soon something will break. No problem, there's always room for improvement!

  • that would e true only if gear ratios were the same beetween the 2 cars.the vti has longer gear ratios thats why it has a much bigger top speed.and besides if the gti was nitrous, dont you think that in the 400m or 1km he would ran out of it?you can push the engine with nos for too long

  • Despite having a larger engine the vti DOES NOT HAVE longer gear ratios. Here's the speed at RPM with the Swift on R14 tyres:

    I put 1st gear to 8500rpm because I normally rev it higher to compensate such tall 2nd gear.

  • ok... 730 kg... o citroen saxo cup faz o mesmo por ser tambem tao leve e apenas com 120 hp.

    para alem do peso... o que vejo nos arrankes aki em portugal... a caixa de velocidades dos civics VTi ESi etc... é muito mal escalonada para arrankes... serve melhor em circuito como vemos nos Best Motoring International. suzuki rula, os pistons do vitara (o jipe) sao boms para D16nn turbinados LOL

  • nao temos saxo cup no brasil, uma pena... swift gti mk3 tem 870kg e 100 hp.

    o cambio do civic eh mal escalonado sim, particularmente acho muito curto... bom para a potencia original, mas nao com upgrades... esse civic não é original, tem Cold Air Intake, Cano Escape Liberado, Suspensao Trabalhada e alívio de peso. Porém, o swift ultrapassou porque estava usando 40cv extras de nitro!

  • Mas o Swift sem nitro virou apenas 0.2seg acima do tempo c/ nitro, porque sem nitro utilizou chip com mais ponto e corte nos 9000rpm ao invés de 7500, também tem um cold air intake e um coletor de escape 4 em 1.

    Os pistoes de Vitara sao bons mesmo, tambem usamos eles nos Swifts turbo, mas se um dia for abrir o motor do meu, utilizarei forjados de uma vez.
