Welcome to the Internet, little friend. I found your Hermit Crab Shells in a quick Google search: glassshell[dot-com] (because apparently I can't post links). I can't guarantee anything about this site. I've never seen it before. But if you want a clear shell, there it is.

@yukiharvestfans You should never buy pet hermit crabs with painted or decorated shells, as the paint can kill them, prevent them from leaving the shell, and molting if the paint gets stuck to them. Please spread the word, bro- these animals can live for more than 20 years, but pet stores often get you to buy cheap plastic containers and dyed sand that will only kill your crab.

That's not a typical hermit crab because most hermit crabs can't breathe underwater. As for the see-through shell...crabs hate them. They need something dark to withdraw into and feel safe. Most likely, this crab was forced into this shell because it never would have chose it on its own unless it had no other choice.

@zurich343 There are many species of hermit crab, and most of them can breathe under water quite well. There are over a thousand different hermit crabs! The vast majority is aquatic, the land dwelling ones are a small minority. Look up "Paguroidea".

@acpowers13 the crab probably doesn't care that it's clear. Crabs choose their shells by color and size. they "shop" for their new shells. Meaning the crab choose this shell out of many different sizes, shapes, and colors.

One of my hermits changed shells 5 different times in one month cause she couldn't decide what she liked best.

How can it be cruel? The hermit don't make the difference between transparent or concrete shell, they use it as protection not to cover up they're body. Plasitc shell is maybe more effective than a real shell... so i don't see anywhere something cruel there.

plastic and glass shells are bad for hermit crabs no matter how cool they look. The plasit cna dlgass hermit crabs shells do not let the back of the hermit crab breath and they are probably not good for storing water.

And, again...crabs (like all creatures) require privacy and isolation. With this clear shell, the crab can never crawl into his shell and feel protected and at ease and "hidden" from the world when it feels like it. Yes, it looks cool to us, but I'd bet my left nut the crab isn't very happy. No refuge from light, etc...

it was probably "forced" into the shell by lack of choice/selection. If you had the choice of living in a trash dumpster or being exposed and vulnerable to the elements, what are you likely to do? Exactly. Live in the dumpster. Does that mean you enjoy your habitat? No. The crab can't vocally complain about it's shell, and is probably just making due with it. My point is simple...if given a choice between normal shells and this clear one, I'd bet the crab would've chosen normal.
