  • It is the same. I recognized Saturday Night the moment Daft was played. It's a blatant sample. The ignorance of today's younger audience, is why they can use old songs to sample from.

  • @clipsryan shut up old man

  • @JordanMitch Not old, just grown up. Get it right, boy. You're just mad cause you know I'm right and your generation is full of the most ignorant morons that have no clue what real music is.

  • they didn't sample that song. They clearly sound similar but it's not the same at all.

  • It's the same effect but obviosly not the same notes, and this guys are more than Djs, they actually play instruments

  • @Fosforinga Then they should start playing those instruments instead of using samples.

  • This is the sample of make luv of room 5

  • All DJ's take samples, its how they work...

  • Naaa man, the two songs are a about a key away I think. They might be using similar chord progressions though.

  • Something about us is way better

  • Like a some boooooo deeee lol theres no sample for this song

  • @713jordi Hahah OwnagePrankCalls hahaha like a somebodyeeeeeeee

  • Nah not a sample, influence defintely

  • so??

  • Nah, it might sound similar at first, but the chord progression is waaay different if you analyze it.

  • Have you slowed down both versions?

  • They might have been inspired by this song, but I don't think it's a sample. Maybe they recreated it using a drummachine. It sounds too clean.

  • @HarmenGoose

Yeah, it was recreated just listen to the bass in Voyager, it sounds so badass xD

  • except pedtorox you are correct, my man

almost all must is rearranging already created music

    from Beatles to present day

But they are two very handsome men who do a fabulous job of recreating and rearranging music

  • if ur aware this isnt the sample y does ur title say where daft punk get thier samples#: something about us??? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! OFF WITH HIS HEAD!

  • Sound Pretty Close , but I dont comepletly think this is the sample, maybe....who knows? Daft Punk is Awesome no matter what!

  • oh, what an asshole!!!!

  • dj's are supposed to sample things, that's why they are "disc jockeys"

  • yeah good call pedtorox

  • it may not be the sample but jesus christ you people are retarded for saying "they have nothing to do with each other".

  • similar... i see where your coming at

  • those two songs have nothing to do with each other ... sorry

  • this song is the sample of voyager, not something about us!!!

  • O RLY?! Tracks are only simillar.

Try to play this songs at guitar in E-minor. Chords will be not same :) If you once worked with samples, you know that's unreal to change chord's structure in sample.

    Daft Punk - C, B7, Em7, Am.

    OC - Em7, C, Am7, Bm7.

And listen to "e-piano" instrument in both songs. In DP song epiano starts on first beat of bar, when in Oliver's song this instrument starts on last beat of previous bar (tact).

    FAIL :)

  • It IS the sample for Make Luv by Room 5 though c:

  • Similar chord progression, maybe they just copied that. Definately not a smaple.

  • check out release the beast by break water you notice the song from daft punk

  • it's pretty much just the syncopation that's different. i guess this would be an example of...how most art ever is made?

  • very close i think u might have actually been right thinking it was

  • no its close tho. the song you are thinking of is voyager

  • voyager and something about us are very close when it comes to sampling. But yes it is voyager.

  • no way, the melody is diferent, it's just obvious.

  • mmm sounds very similar but not a sample

  • Its quite possible man

  • yeah they changed the pitch and the speed dude

  • no they didn't

  • Well spotted, very similar. Might try this myself with a few songs.

  • what are you talking about?

  • That's it DP got some wicked synth they would run that through..

    Good Find Mate

  • They really do sound alike

  • This is Voyager.

  • this is something about us. not voyager.

  • These are two different sets of notes and chords with similar instrumentation, rhythm, and tempo.

    I don't call that a sample - I call it a tribute.

  • @lithiumdeuteride Geniously stated. Mad Credit.

  • they sampled this song for voyager

  • ur wrong the sample is from the song make luv-by room 5

  • that song was made 2 years after voyager =.=

  • @cget

Voyager is not sampled from this song) They are only simillar)

  • @cget and for this one too,,,I`m agree is quite similar yeah,,pedtorox is correct,,is quite similar at low bpm but pitch is changed. Some little differences but remains a lot one beat/groove of the this song with the Daft punk one. Could be taken for voyager(sure) and something about us(Agree with pedtorox, the "theme matrix" is very similar).

  • Might be.

  • The so called "samples" some are dubious have inspired songs or been changed and chopped from the original they don't sound the same

  • the talent of Daft Punk does not reside in creating, but in RECREATING.

  • lol its not that deep. nice try though

  • ok what is this? sampling? or sounding kinda like it?

  • wow your a moron those arent the same songs get a life

  • the only thing similar is the bpm, and the bpm isnt right either.

  • its funny cause Get Down Saturday Night is actually where daft punk got Voyager, just from the more upbeat version of get down...

  • Well, no it isn't right but thanks for the cool new tune!

  • man a sample is not "something that sounds familiar" but a sound wave cutted, filtered and/or looped

So something IS a sample or ISN'T a sample

  • omg ...read the first seconds in the video -.-

  • Btw, its not daft punk who sampled this, Junior Jack sampled this and should be given credit for it, Im a fan of all french house musicians, but this credit is rightfully deserved by Junior Jack :)

  • some people think that get down saturday night was a sample for voyager, but i do see some similarities but this isn't a sample.

  • its not voyager its something about us

  • Yes same here

  • it's not the same, fake

  • The Daft boys are sooo cute!

And i don't really care where they get their samples. They ASK for permission, if they don't then theyd be arrested for illegal use and copyright

  • Hello, I can slow down music too.

    fake

  • its not a sample, they have just tried to recreate the sound of the instrument in the oliver cheatam track... notes are different though

  • you can change the notes in a sample

  • yeah you can re-pitch samples... but in this case, its not a sample of the oliver cheatam track.. theyve just re-created that sound. after all, its not hard to do, that's a classic disco clav piano sound.

  • I agree with you

  • I don't doubt it inspired them to make the song. Daft Punk produce a lot of songs that contain similar riffs to older, jazzyish songs, think "around the world" and "short circuit."

  • It sounds like Room 5 - make luv to just listen.

  • not Daft Punk the song form Oliver Cheatham sounds like Room 5 - make luv I mean Room 5 used some sample from Oliver:P

  • it is that they use

  • wow they are really similar

  • I think it's similar enough. The synth. tones are what they must have took. One video accredited Oliver Cheatam's song to "voyager". I like how DP will take the sample but then twist it so much that it's hard to see how they got there. "One More Time" had notes taken out of order. The origins to "High Life" and most of "Face to Face" are still a mystery.

  • actually, Face to face was sampled from ELO - Evil Woman

  • yeah... they're not really the same. true they both have a lot of funky mute and ghost notes, but not so much with the sampling.

  • if you could play it backwards, then you hear it really the sample

  • I think they may have just copied the groove and re-recorded it. Doesn't sound quite like a sample.

  • AWESOME! daft punk did a grat job with this one, and you did a great job noticing it. kudos!

  • I'm stunned I didn't notice this in GTA Vice City :O

  • Daft Punk used Saturday Night for Voyager, but this does sound similer

  • Great find, didn't notice this one at all!

  • Yo people get it in your heads this is what Daft Punk does they use 70s-80s ol´skool Disco samples and give it the so called "Daft Punk touch" , am sure if u look deeply in the legal documents of these tracks ur sure to find some mention of the sample. If u wanna know who steals songs and makes out as if its his then look up Timberland he´s the real thief ! ! ! !

  • That's true! Timbaland is an ass about it. He steals music and thinks it's justified just because he doesn't have enough time to check if it's legal. :P

  • it is not real :(

  • I'm also not sure but you might be right! Arranging Samples in a different way is a technique. And just remember: It's not a must for every sound to be sampled. Why not playing the bass or that saw pad in new?

There's not a rule exept compatibility in the mixdown

  • Here's an interesting fact: the Strawberry Letter 23 guitar riff sounds just like Get Down Saturday Night slowed down.

  • u knw i think ur rightt!

  • Whoops, I meant Something About Us, not Between Us. It's been a long week for me and it's only half done...

  • They may be slightly similar in terms of instrumentation, but the Cheatham song has more of a shuffling, disco-type beat whereas Something Between Us is more straight up funk. The chord changes are also completely different, and the guitar is on the up beat on the Cheatham song, and on the down beat on DP's song. I'm pretty sure it's not sampled.

You could probably find a dozen funk tunes that sound similar to Daft's song, since that is the genre they were going for...

  • I love "something about us", that's why i downloaded this track u say it's the one they got the sample from. Wrong! Actually Room5's - "Make Luv" it's obviously the remake of it. Indeed it has similar chords with Something About Us but even the lyrics are the same with the Room5's Make Luv.

  • Yea i know i clearly stated that in the video

  • Where, exactly ?

  • didn't you see the video Annotations?

  • They did sample this song, but for voyager I believe. Good call though

  • @Shaft86 no idiot something about us is older than make luv

  • I had never heard of daft punk until this...thank you. They are fucking sweet!

  • C'est VOYAGER AUSSI

  • actually they are pretty damn similar, just change the key and tempo a little

  • Dont i know you from some where?

  • its the point that they take songs and turn them into techno but that sound exact familiar lol i want to find that record

like 1more time is by Cher

  • its not techno dummy

  • then wat is it cause i listen to alot of daft punk and its says on the the back of one of there disc case and in the bookle that comes with it but that must be america techno i beleive but im must of misread when i went to buy it in the techno area in best buy

  • it's electronica

  • I know how to play something about us in the piano and it has nothing to do with this song besides the bass is totally different and if you break down the song you can tell that it was made from scratch

  • isnt the sample from 'Strawberry Letter 23'?

  • Yeah it was, this video is wrong.

  • You are playing the Oliiver Cheatham on the wrong speed. The Daft Punk song does not have the artifacting in it that you get from slowing down the original. close, but no cigar.

  • i mush like anybody else can hear the common ground shared by the 2 songs, but rather or not we can be certain it is the sample that daft punk used can not be concretely determined due to a couple distinguishing factors. you can hear a one note difference, not saying it is a huge descrepancy issue but lets not over look that key difference. you have a keen ear for spotting the common grounds this could be the sample that daft punk used in something about us! good going man

  • Thanks!

  • Really nice man ! :)

  • I can hear a resemblance, but I can't hear how they could take the original source material and turn it into "Something About Us". The original song's chords are too synthesized, "Something About Us" has alot more warmth to it's chords. Also, the guitar is played a lot more in the original song, much more than it's played in "Something About Us". I'm trying a chop job, but I can't seem to make it work.

  • something about us 1 million times better

  • They also used the same sample for Voyager.

  • that does sound quite similar actually...

  • i meant 'strawberry letter 23' brothers johnson

  • try and find 'high life' sample. to me it sounded similar but it sounds like strawberry 23

  • Sounds sorta similar! I'll look more into it. If i make a video I'll gives props to you! :D

  • the also sample get down saturday night on thier song voyager

  • that's right. great listening job.

  • Oliver Cheatham...i love you for making a song so that daft punk can sample you...and make a good song... from ur fantastic song...

  • hey :o im not oliver cheatham, lol

  • YOU ARE MY HERO

This is my favorite Daft Punk song. :)

  • Holy crap! You know, I went to this one site, and, through YouTube, I found that this song was also the sample for Voyager!

  • yes

  • Cool thanks for sharing this.

Like Tyler11440 said, almost all of Daft Punk 's songs, especially from Discovery/HAA have been sampled, and rebuilt. Mostly using the sample as a simple beat, but sometimes its part of the music it self, edited in a way, sometimes you can't even tell its there.

  • I can't wait till they make another album, I hope its going to be more House like Homework, and not like Discovery / Human After All

  • and its kinda hard to see it, they may have used this song as inspiration, and sampled the cord, and changed it them selves, because its not exactly similar.

  • Of course it's not exactly similar. The songs are pretty similar though, but Daft Punk did a good job.

  • I feel like their next alblum may be a really hardcore electro. Not exactly techno, but more like XINON

  • ^_^

  • actually almost every daft punk song is sliced and rebuilt, this actually is the sample

  • i think they probably were influenced by Get Down Saturday Night but its not a sample from it

i may be wrong but unless the absolutely shredded the sample there is no way you could make the Something About Us guitar part with samples from Get Down Saturday Night

  • Im starting to think that as well. When I heard get down it reminded me so much of something about us.

  • well they used to play it in their sets back 97 ish so its not at all farfetched to think that they would have emulated it and of course they did sample it in voyager (well i think they did :P)

both tracks are classics though :)

  • Something About Us does not contain a sample. I own the Discovery album and in the copyright section under Something About Us is does not say it contains a sample. So songs do however (ex. Digital Love - "Contains a sample from "I Love You More" written by George Duke".)

  • However, they don't write down all the samples they use.

  • u have a great day too!

  • Voyager sounds way more similar to Get Down Saturday night than this.

  • Well daft punk uses a lot of soul and rnb samples from 70's and 80's so a lot of it sounds similar. It is totally cool that you tink it sounds more like voyager. keep rocking!

  • Gee - you really are sure of this? Check out other Youtube videos what show where DP got samples from and they show incredible similarities, but this just doesn't seem right. DP wouldn't use a sample from a song which was slowed down. They use a sample and slow it down/speed it up themselves.

Besides - Room 5 used the sample for their track "Make Luv". Sorry - but I'm thinking they didn't use this for Something About Us.

  • never seen their visages before

  • What? Faces?

  • hah yea they really are human after all

  • lol ; )

  • LOL!

  • I knew it sounded familiar!

  • Maybe some of us thinks it's intresting to find out what the originals songs are. -.-

  • I know chill out. Were not trying to bash them. I hate you noob daft punk fans

  • Wow tanks you just gave me 1 week of sampling fun thx dude

  • good find!

  • dude WOW i never knew it was from 'get down saturday night' nice find!11 daft punk iz Awesome

  • ha ha yeah. I was playing Vice city and heard this song, it sounded so familiar so I went to my ipod, and then I realized it sounded just like something about us.

  • wow, good find!

  • Who are they at 0.5

  • They are Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the members of Daft Punk.

  • listen carefully
