It is the same. I recognized Saturday Night the moment Daft was played. It's a blatant sample. The ignorance of today's younger audience, is why they can use old songs to sample from.
@JordanMitch Not old, just grown up. Get it right, boy. You're just mad cause you know I'm right and your generation is full of the most ignorant morons that have no clue what real music is.
Man's greatest achievement is not always invention, often, it is innovation and ingenuity. When hearing of the samples, initially I lost respect. Although once I looked more into Daft Punk's sampling (whosampledotcom). I gained more respect than I had lost because many (not all) of the samples only resembled a few tones (a second or so of the song). Turning a fraction of a song into a masterpiece must take unbelievable skill!
if ur aware this isnt the sample y does ur title say where daft punk get thier samples#: something about us??? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! OFF WITH HIS HEAD!
Try to play this songs at guitar in E-minor. Chords will be not same :) If you once worked with samples, you know that's unreal to change chord's structure in sample.
Daft Punk - C, B7, Em7, Am.
OC - Em7, C, Am7, Bm7.
And listen to "e-piano" instrument in both songs. In DP song epiano starts on first beat of bar, when in Oliver's song this instrument starts on last beat of previous bar (tact).
you all act like daft punk didnt do this on purpose. they chopped and mixed these songs, they are disc jockeys. It is what they do. get over it. when have you ever heard a dj at a club play all of his own music? you dont. you hear him playing his mixed down version of someone elses songs. so that people may dance to it.
@cget and for this one too,,,I`m agree is quite similar yeah,,pedtorox is correct,,is quite similar at low bpm but pitch is changed. Some little differences but remains a lot one beat/groove of the this song with the Daft punk one. Could be taken for voyager(sure) and something about us(Agree with pedtorox, the "theme matrix" is very similar).
Btw, its not daft punk who sampled this, Junior Jack sampled this and should be given credit for it, Im a fan of all french house musicians, but this credit is rightfully deserved by Junior Jack :)
yeah you can re-pitch samples... but in this case, its not a sample of the oliver cheatam track.. theyve just re-created that sound. after all, its not hard to do, that's a classic disco clav piano sound.
I don't doubt it inspired them to make the song. Daft Punk produce a lot of songs that contain similar riffs to older, jazzyish songs, think "around the world" and "short circuit."
I think it's similar enough. The synth. tones are what they must have took. One video accredited Oliver Cheatam's song to "voyager". I like how DP will take the sample but then twist it so much that it's hard to see how they got there. "One More Time" had notes taken out of order. The origins to "High Life" and most of "Face to Face" are still a mystery.
Yo people get it in your heads this is what Daft Punk does they use 70s-80s ol´skool Disco samples and give it the so called "Daft Punk touch" , am sure if u look deeply in the legal documents of these tracks ur sure to find some mention of the sample. If u wanna know who steals songs and makes out as if its his then look up Timberland he´s the real thief ! ! ! !
That's true! Timbaland is an ass about it. He steals music and thinks it's justified just because he doesn't have enough time to check if it's legal. :P
I'm also not sure but you might be right! Arranging Samples in a different way is a technique. And just remember: It's not a must for every sound to be sampled. Why not playing the bass or that saw pad in new?
There's not a rule exept compatibility in the mixdown
They may be slightly similar in terms of instrumentation, but the Cheatham song has more of a shuffling, disco-type beat whereas Something Between Us is more straight up funk. The chord changes are also completely different, and the guitar is on the up beat on the Cheatham song, and on the down beat on DP's song. I'm pretty sure it's not sampled.
You could probably find a dozen funk tunes that sound similar to Daft's song, since that is the genre they were going for...
I love "something about us", that's why i downloaded this track u say it's the one they got the sample from. Wrong! Actually Room5's - "Make Luv" it's obviously the remake of it. Indeed it has similar chords with Something About Us but even the lyrics are the same with the Room5's Make Luv.
then wat is it cause i listen to alot of daft punk and its says on the the back of one of there disc case and in the bookle that comes with it but that must be america techno i beleive but im must of misread when i went to buy it in the techno area in best buy
I know how to play something about us in the piano and it has nothing to do with this song besides the bass is totally different and if you break down the song you can tell that it was made from scratch
You are playing the Oliiver Cheatham on the wrong speed. The Daft Punk song does not have the artifacting in it that you get from slowing down the original. close, but no cigar.
i mush like anybody else can hear the common ground shared by the 2 songs, but rather or not we can be certain it is the sample that daft punk used can not be concretely determined due to a couple distinguishing factors. you can hear a one note difference, not saying it is a huge descrepancy issue but lets not over look that key difference. you have a keen ear for spotting the common grounds this could be the sample that daft punk used in something about us! good going man
I can hear a resemblance, but I can't hear how they could take the original source material and turn it into "Something About Us". The original song's chords are too synthesized, "Something About Us" has alot more warmth to it's chords. Also, the guitar is played a lot more in the original song, much more than it's played in "Something About Us". I'm trying a chop job, but I can't seem to make it work.
Like Tyler11440 said, almost all of Daft Punk 's songs, especially from Discovery/HAA have been sampled, and rebuilt. Mostly using the sample as a simple beat, but sometimes its part of the music it self, edited in a way, sometimes you can't even tell its there.
