Why didn't Duke save Apollo from his own arrogance? He could have called the fight off between rounds. Trainers do this all the time when their boxer can't think clearly.
I seen this movie probably about 40-50 times since 1990. I ask myself the question all the time. Balboa was more of an associate than a friend. Right before the fight with Drago, Duke tells Balboa he liked Apollo like a son. The two had a long lasting relationship. When Apollo told Rocky to not stop the fight, it made sense that Rocky didn't stop the fight. I do question Duke for not stepping in.
After all this is a movie and all logic goes out the window. :)

Looking into this, Apollo actually commits suicide. Before this scene, Apollo is suffering from depression because he's not as strong, popular or talented in boxing as he use to be; and it's eating him up inside. Apollo kept telling Rocky, "when it's over" which implies his plans. Also, when Rocky attempts to stop the fight, Apollo kept telling him "NO!" A thinking, rational person would not do this. Apollo wanted to die all along while doing something that he loved...boxing.

That referee needs to be investigated lol. The only bad thing in every rocky movie is the amount of beating the fighters were taking and the referee doesnt stop any of them. to be fair i thought it was bulls*it how rocky beats drago. hear me out on this, apollo takes rocky to the brink in the first 2 movies, drago KILLS apollo in 2 rounds, so how in the hell did rocky beat drago. Further proof is the fact that apollo hospitalizes rocky in the 1st movie yet his punches didnt faze drago. Yes its just a movie but c'mon make it semi realistic.

In Rocky IV Rocky is in his prime, being world heavy weight champion, where Apollo hasn't been in the ring for four years and should be in retirement. Though as we see Apollo see's the Russian and gets all jealous and picks a fight. The Russian is also injected with body enhancements in the movie. Apollo also didn't train for the fight whereas Rocky trained hard. The Russian is still young

Now i know he beat clubber in the end but years past before the Russian fight where Rocky also didnt have a fight. All these factors coming together seem to just take away the coherency of it IMO.

@Kane16802 Well Nikolay Valuev hits at 2400 psi born in 1973 but retired in 2009, a few people lasted in the ring with him for a while and his win to loss was 50-2. So saying Rocky's head should have been busted open at 2100 psi is a false judgement. And yes Rocky could go 15 rounds with Drago, seen as 1 of Nikolay Valuev's losses went the full 12 rounds which Nikolay Valuev just lost by decision. Kind of ironic that Nikolay Valuev is also Russian. lol
