  • Wow, this is one of those songs that when you hear for the first time... you put on repeat for hours. Beautiful music. Thanks you Leo

Ps - now I have to buy a 12 string, because I wouldn't want to play this song on a traditional 6 string. Same with "Living in the Country".

  • Leo-I think you have a wonderful voice. You always had...Thank you for years of great music.Jim

  • Leo your great, I grew up to your songs, and your music reminds me of home.

  • thank you leo.....

  • simply.the.best.ever. (along with john prine); leaves the wannabe "pop idols" and "superstars" far far behind in the dust of their blinding talent. long live Leo!

  • A nice song for House, MD - yea right. Kottke is not shallow pop media "sell out" whore... forgettaboutit

  • Someone gave me a CD of him - instant fav - magic - he creates an entire world for us to enter - what a gift!

  • And I thought it was a Don Ross's song. This, original rendition is definitely better.

  • I found about Leo Kottke only today and already am in love with his music and voice!!:) Where I was earlier??

  • @zumzummm19 Yeah, I just found out about him a couple days ago too, lol

  • i youtubed everybody lies cause of house , and found this xD

  • Wonderful...

  • This was the song that introduced me to Leo. I heard it on the radio while in the car in 1988. I was hooked. Bought his album "My Father's Face", in my view one of his best. This track is on it. Seen him twice at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Brilliant. Thanks for posting this.

  • one of my favorite leo kottke songs

  • Love his voice

  • I heard he said he "sang like a goose farting on a muggy day"

  • Could be quite nice a song for HOUSE MD :-)

  • Anyone know when this was? He never plays those old straight-shouldered Taylors anymore. I wish he would. Either way, he rules.

  • @billandersonful

I believe it may have been in or near Cleveland, sometime in the early 80s.

  • Toronto, 1988

  • This ia great.

  • consumersism is bad

  • despite this mans obvious talent, doesn;t he support consumerism?

  • Love this song! He's the best guitar player ever.

    and this voice...woa...

  • This is off of Leo's "Home and Away" DVD. Definitely worth the $20.

  • and that is the guy who once said he had an awful voice.... whatever the reason was for such a statement, he was WRONG!

  • Leo once described his voice as that of a "Dry popcorn fart". Unique would be a better way to describe his voice and guitar sound that makes up his character. Truly a great musician.

  • @owlet1963 He is the most wonderful songwriter who has given me so much happiness..!!!!!!.....long live Leo Kottke..!!!!!!!

  • @owlet1963 Now you realise everybody lies....

  • anyone know tuning?????????

  • colbort- tuning is drop D (D-A-D-G-B-E). But Leo usually tunes his 12-string down 2 full steps, so the actual tuning is A#-F-A#-D#-G-C. If you low-tune your 12-string, you have to have medium gauge strings on it.

  • You have got to get a ticket to this mans show !!!!!

  • He is amazing live. Between songs he tells little stories about growing up and where he got some of his inspiration.

  • Sorry, message bombardment, but I just can't get over this one. What a terrific piece of music by the master!! Amazing hammer ons, pull-offs, muting, quick chord changes, tempo alterations, great melody.

This is the best piece of music I've seen on this site so far.

  • Right..pretty amazing sound.. I'm guessing

whoever recorded this must have gotten a feed

from the Mixing desk..proof positive that Kottke is a much under-rated vocalist- aside

from obviously being one of the GREATest acoustic players ever.Check out his album Great Big Boy for a really unique side of

    Leo's artistry ....aMAAZing!!!

  • Yes, I have Great Big Boy and I really like it. Leo has actually produced quite a diverse set of music through his career. Standing In My Shoes is another great one. One of a kind, no doubt.

  • Had to listen to that again!! That is the true Kottke sound in my opinion--terrific combination of picking and strumming on a beautiful sounding 12 string.

I'd love to find Tab for this also.

  • I forgot about that song--one of Leo's early ones. Don't think he plays it anymore. I wish he played more of that early stuff. Terrific find, great sound quality.

  • This is (at least) on "My Father's Face", which is a great album.

  • Originally on "Burnt Lips", another fantastic album. All 37 are fantastic albums.

  • Thanks for the post. I never tire of Leo's music, since discovering him back in about '74.

  • Leo, it is more that 30 years that your records plays in the house, it is great music and energy. I am still playing the vinyls Burn Lips and Green House. So glad to find your videos here. What a beautiful song. Thanks so much.

    Everybody lies.

  • I'll have to find a copy of Green House. I miss the song "Tiny Island".

  • Hi RUuser I got the vinyls "Green House" record.

I may convert it into digital but the quality is not guaranteed. I will tell next week end if I can make it.

    Cheers

    William

  • saugeil, einfach super. Schade das er relativ unbekannt ist.

  • Does anyone, ANYONE have the tabs for this song?

  • Leo is definitely a creative rebel, and has a way of pointing out the truth in his songs. & A true dry wit, without the little green olive!

  • what can anyone say! first recorded " Burnt lips" great tune, great album ,great cover!

  • thanks for putting this one up! i have the dvd, its amazing and love his music

  • what dvd is that? I'd be interested in getting it. btw is this a cover and if so who did it first?
