I've done that. The highest size normal groups will get you is...160 I believe. This video has more than the "Huge" option in R:TW.

Britain and France were in no mood for a war after WWI and already occupied the cream of the Ottoman provinces (the Middle East). Istanbul and Anatolia were on the periphery since the industrial revolution. Nor were all the nationalist movements in the Eastern Med worth getting into.
And if Britain and France have nothing left, why is Turkey trying to get into the EU?

BTW where did I say anything regarding whether the Europeans actually wanted the city or not? All I am saying is that that is not a measure for greatness. More concrete things like industry, the economy, technology etc. are, and Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire in general were severely lacking in these kinds of departments when compared to Europe.

The industrial revolution had been going on for some 60-120 years before WWI (depending on how you define it), so it wasn't even that new.
So where were the Ottomans/Istanbul in 1914? Its industries, transport and communication were underdeveloped, it owed massive debts to overseas banks, its position as a trade conduit was redundant, and many people were still living as serfs.
The only thing left was its history. Apparently point these things out makes me an imperialist.

He also lived sumptuous palace life, and spent odious amount of money in organizing majestic ceremonies, rather than looking after the common people. The serfs and slaves weren't freed, even with Christianity legalized. And after Constantine, the Roman Empire essentially used Jesus Christ as their new Jupiter
