some of you cum swallowers its not all about fighting, people do this for mental life focus and enjoyment, if you want to see what a real fight looks like, turn on bravo and you see plenty of it, no traditions really meet against real fighting, learning an art from is different from have a real fight, you disipline your mind, anyone can punch or kick, but to totally focus in yur mind and deal with all in life takes alot
Make one with the partner (aïte), not go against his strenght or his attack and use his strenght of inertia (ki no nagare) for leaving safe from the situation.
The goal is not (and cant be !)to defeat an opponent but to build yourself (body and mind...).
I think the effectiveness comes after you get that ! If you want a fast effectiveness, use a fighting method like krav maga or gun...
(sorry for my approximate language ... I'm french / best regards)
inferno: it's used by special forces in RL situations. IT works along with every MA. This is a demo that's all. Cross train with an aikidoka - it'll help you both.
I like how you guys bash aikido, with no proof to back it up.. hah, I was regional junior boxing champion in my area, and I now take aikido, and I can tell you, straight up fighting some of the blackbelts, I can punch as hard and fast as I want.. and end up on the floor equally hard and fast.. anyone saying aikido doesn't work.. has never faught a skilled aikidoka.
I cant stop wondering ppl who cry about this demo..IT IS A DEMO, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE COREOGRAFED!I'd like to see 100% full impro martial arts demo with real swords and knives.Doh!Any1 in sane mind would start that in front of hundreds of ppl!
God...i would like this guy try this shit with me!
I trained aikido for 6 years. And ended up knocking out my instructor coz he wanted to try stuff out on me. I told him not to. Am 6ft5 195kg, exe kickboxer/Uechi Ryu trainer. Aikido doesnot work in real fights. Period!
That's a matter of opinion. I know special forces guys who swear by it. Strikes are eaiser - no doubt. BUT i've found against big guys like yourself eyes, throat and groin distractions (atemi) work wonders in combination with certain techniques. Obviously there's a lot of techniques i wouldn't want to try on someone so big. Still it's up to th epractioner of MA's to see the oppoutunities presented to them and use the right technique to best effect.
In the real world, aikido will work against not trained ppl, but it isn't the same when you face a good fighter using ninjutsu, muay thai, kung fu or tae kwon do. I've seen it. I don't mean aikido doesn't work, but against trained ppl, very much is upon the skill and experience of your opponent.
Aikido was created by a japanese martial artist who, reacting to his country militarism, transformed destruction through combat into the cessation of violence through harmony. This idea, I think, is its most powerful technique. To those who just want to kick ass, aikido also teaches ground combat, locks and holds.
So aikido can be translated as 'the way to union with universal energy' or 'the way of unified energy'. Another common interpretation of the characters is harmony, spirit and way, so aikido can also mean 'the way of spiritual harmony' or 'the art of peace'
This demonstration is awesome. The lights and the multicolor mat may add to the choreographed feeling but Aikido is very real and devestating. The parts you feel are not "street worth" is where you will really wondered what happened and change your mind about provaking a finished attack. You guys would get lost in the "blend>"
I have been practicing aikido for abut a year now.Of course it is coreographed because it is for a demonstration.but in reality it would work just as well or better.
good display of Aikido!! I've been a student of aikido since I was seven. For those who think aikido does not work...you are mistaken!!! It works!!! Just try taking someone down who really knows Aikido, lol.
fantastic. the eejits who dont think it would work in the real world are in most cases wrong. I have trained since i was 3 and i'm now 15. i have had use aikido many times in the past i know for a fact that it works. and i forces balance upon you not the lack there of eejit.
aikido seem to be choreografed and fake because everybody who trained aikido knows that if you try to resist you'll have your hand in three placeces broken. On the street fight with that man would be about 5 sec. long :]
dont forget it is done that way as it is a demonstration on technique. if being rated everything is examined, and it being a defensive martial art you cant easily judge the technique. Unlike other martial arts that are based on striking.
i've never trained, practised aikido so i mean no disrespect.. no doubt this man has a lot of skill.. but like someone said before, it all seems so choreographed and.. well, kinda fake.. 'specially the multiple attacker bit
Impressive but it looks very choreographed. Most martial arts disciplines, when facing opponents of similar styles, tend to go like this. But out in the real world against people who are untrained and don't know what to do, things almost never go as well. Always both funny and sad to see someone who has been training for years end up in a street fight, as they usually get their heads handed to them.
In the real world, unchoreographed Aikido moves either don`t work at all or break bones. You`d certainly not get these wonderful breakfalls with instant resurrection.
What you definitely get from Aikido is getting used to falling relatively safely. Has saved my neck (or probably arm) a couple of times when I took a spill on my motorcycle.
I am learning tomiki aikido and I have spared for fun with one of my buddys who knows absolutely nothing about stand up fighting. If sombody throws a punch at you aikido works. This is coriographed im sure; however, dont think because of that that aikido doesnt work in the real world.

Can you, please, provide the link where the original video can be downloaded? I would like to show it to my friends in dojo (off line), so I need to download it in some other format.
This is very nice demo. I hope it will bring more kids to dojos and to sports in general.
