  • Fantastic video

  • the Lego is the treasure..this is grate, i love this

  • Paid for by Lego. Lego Lego Lego.

  • WAIT WAIT WAIT... don't you need a point.. to do a TED talk?

This guy told us he went to buy his kid lego's, and instead bought himself some..

Then he bought 150lbs. of them.. then he sorted them.. and then he realized he's obsessed.

The end. But dont worry he made a TED logo out of Lego's...

Next week I will be speaking on Toilet Paper, and how I just realized I use it.

  • I think hes saying legos are a good way to have fun as adults..

  • yes i know about legos. what i want to know is who allowed you to speak at TED

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • K, so this guy is changing the world by saying, "Legos are neat, eh?" McFail.

  • @craigwg Agreed, I honestly don't know WTF they let people like this on TED. It was a funny talk, but not a TED talk.

  • That's a couple levels above furries.

    I laughed.

  • I think the point was to always be curious because you never know where you'll end up. Too many people are overly serious in our culture and become trapped in a narrow, stagnant, and boring definition of adulthood. Keep your imagination alive and try new things, even if you think it's something "silly" or "stupid". Pablo Picasso said: ‎"It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."

  • @micah3110

Great comment, I have a different take.

this was (also) showing that just because you arent part of a culture, doesnt mean its a lesser culture.

today those that like modifying cars are scoffed by those that ....go to school and those that school scoff at car enthusiast because of the money presumably wasted.

finding a niche, hobby, sport, etc that you excel or want to excel at is I think something everyone wants to do....sometimes it takes a bit of searching to find it.

  • @destin325: I agree, it does take a lot of searching and also some strong convictions since there are always those detractors you mention who find fault with what one loves to do. It's especially true with the folks who think money equals happiness, and think one should just take on a career to make bucks. I've never been a status quo type of guy.

  • @micah3110

I had a pretty smart teacher actually say "money can buy a way to happiness, but not happiness" Most folks see money as a way to buy things....others use money to open the door to experience.

like buying a plane ticket to make it home for Christmas....money just bought the ticket, not the holiday.

or a grill for a cookout....money bought the grill ...but it didnt buy the fun when everyone played football.

  • I kind of enjoyed it, it would have been better if he sort of wrapped up it with a point, but it was still amusing. He seemed like a nice guy.

  • lol'd @ pirate American lego guns

  • i like how only one person stans up.

  • I like the blue blocks, but I use use the other ones to throw at my cat.

  • okee-dokee artichokee... wtf? lol

  • What was the point of this?

  • @rwwright it's easy to miss but if I think he was saying that playing with lego as an adult is gay...

  • @rwwright Its just funny, cool stuff.. I used to love lego as a kid - I think he's saying that as adults we lose alot of our imagination, take things too seriously ALSO he's showing how insanely deep into any particular hobby people can get, and well, he's talking about LEGO.. ^_^

  • at what point did he seamlessly weave the nonsense into a palatable message? wherever it was, I missed it; all I caught was the nonsense.

  • A few levels above furries...

  • forgot to talk about james may's lego house

  • @Alfis26 I thought I was the only one (American) that looked at what other interests people have rather than just there day job.

  • how is this an idea worth spreading?

  • @McSnookerman How isn't this an idea worth spreading? Lego is an excellent building tool, and excessive amount of fun and a great way of being creative.

Hell, I would even go as far as to say that Lego can be art.

  • @McSnookerman

You really don't know? The Lego phenomena has created an outlet for all sorts of creative people in the arts. If you study the history of art you'll see all sorts of eras that involve expression in a unique form with some unique medias, pigments, & surfaces. Some artists today are utilizing the latest technology (like those people who use computer software to make Lego masterpieces) while other artists use the simple Lego shapes to produce massive intricately designed sculptures.

  • @McSnookerman if nothing else then to promote creativity if nothing else

  • It was a guy showing his Lego collection. WTF? TED standards are going down.

  • stupid, like very, basic lego suks

    only lego technics is worthwhile

  • OMG the sorting must have taken months!! :)

  • nice t-shirt

  • LOL.. Lego rich!

  • agree! Lego bricks are genius for kids within grownup. I am also fascinated and recently bought a bigger amount of simpler all white bricks.

but. the talk is rather lame. sorry mr cooperman

  • In my opinion, i think the reason TED put this guy on stage is to reset, if you will, the listeners thoughts so it isn't so draining and knowledge just being crammed into your brain. Its really smart because I know what its like to sit in a chair for 3+ hours with just knowledge with no enthusiasm.

  • TED you are some of the smartest people in the world, invest in HD.....please!!

  • @SILENTIMACT74 Home Depot is good.

  • This just in not TED. :/

  • why is this a ted talk

  • rofl

  • @netiaz Well for a start it's on the main website:

"If the LEGO trademark is used at all, it should always be used as an adjective, not as a noun. For example, say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGO BRICKS". Never say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGOs""

As far as i can work out, it's an Americanism mainly

  • @cyrilthefish

    www_._lego_.com/eng/info/fairplay.asp

Hmm.. youtube doesn't like posting weblinks, remove the underscores

  • Well judging by this talk, TED is finally ready to let me talk about my comic bok collection and Batman action figures.

  • It pains me to dislike a TEDtalk. It felt too much like a commercial. Skip it.

  • + for swearing durring your ted talk

  • Hey may be a nerd but I am probably a bigger nerd knowing that the plural of Lego is not Legos but just Lego with no S.

  • horrible

  • Rofl @ the lone guy who stands up at the end of his talk.

  • I like lego. But this guy is an idiot!

  • Not sure why they let this mediocre fool talk about legos for 6 minutes. We should keep these people locked up, not giving them attention.

  • One of the worst TED talks ever..

  • if your presentation is going to be dull and pointless at least have good jokes.

  • Lego is a massive design subculture. The number of adults who use it as a creative outlet is truly staggering. It is not surprising that TED allowed 5 minutes (a short, short for TED) to this whimsical but important geek obsession.

  • The Lego insanity is Star Warsing away in my family. xD Try 500$ for a millenium falcon that takes up the kitchen table. It is amazing.

  • Looks like nowadays any sad person can get into TED Talks to....

    just....

    TALK!

    damnnn.....

  • HA! when he was talking about the girl with condoms in her pocket was he referencing communitychannel? XD

  • It's LEGO

    One LEGO brick = LEGO

    Many LEGO bricks = LEGO

There is no such word as legos, same as the plural of sheep is sheep not sheeps

    </grammar rant> :D

  • @cyrilthefish

in fact... its not even LEGO, its LEGO bricks....

  • Legos are cool but that was pretty weak for Ted.

  • oh TED what ever happened to you

  • i fuckin love legos!

  • ted is really going down hill if people like this are allowed to talk

  • You people are honestly raging about someone at a talk you didnt go to expressing his love for legos?

Really - that's what gets to you?

    Lol.

    VIVA LEGOS!

  • What the ANUS >?? I actually finished watching this.....FML 6:21 Min of ma Life..

  • For the people complaining:

If you notice at about a minute in the video that the video is just about LEGO, just click away, it's not that hard.

    On topic:

I'm only 20, so not really at the phase he's at, but damn, LEGO's are awesome.

  • ok guys i'm half way in this video and i'm gone

  • HOW DO I TURN OFF CAPS LOCK? MY FRIENDS ALL THINK IM SCREAMING AT THEM AND ITS TEARING MY FAMILY APART?

  • @da3coons moron. thats from yahoo answer fail and spricket24.

  • @da3coons Screw them, if they can't handle the way you are than they never really loved you in the first place, yell away young grasshopper!

  • This was like to worst TED video

  • this sux

  • hahahhahahahahahah click on the soccer ball on the bar underneath the video next to the quality selector and listen hahahahah

  • @TheJJURY What is tht button for?

  • @TheJJURY I fucign laughed so hard XD

  • @TheJJURY

    You just made my day!

    Haha!

  • @TheJJURY their isnt one

  • Yeah.... that wasn't weird at all.... not at all.

  • stupid

  • Ted.com watch and learn

  • STUPID RAISINS! where can i buy that shirt

  • @superdaaaaa threadless(dot)com i think

  • I thought TED talks were meant to be smarter than this.

  • HOW DO I TURN OFF CAPS LOCK? MY FRIENDS ALL THINK IM SCREAMING AT THEM AND ITS TEARING MY FAMILY APART?

  • @da3coons Alt + F4

  • @da3coons dude you saw the video of that ginger chick and you are trying to be funny i just already saw you on that vid with the emo kid plz stop

  • @FinalOffering You have a point but go a bit too far with it. These people are not geniuses and true they do not contribute anything to society with the completion of such works. But its still art in a form, and there is something special about taking a piece of reality and recreating it in your own way. I wouldnt encourage these people, but at the same time i wouldnt call them dumbasses as it takes a certain level of skill and persistence to create such works

  • @g0ing2n0where I agree with everything you said, except for the part about not calling them dumbasses. Eventhough FinalOffering went a bit too far.

  • oh man was he shaking on the hands..

  • Let's go to Lego Land and give me money.

  • his tshirt is funny

  • I waited and waited for something funny to be said or showed on the screen. I feel like I just got ass-raped by the whole sesame street gang by the end of this video.

  • man i think i lost some iq points by watching this..

  • NERDFIGHTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I once heard that the definition of a nerd is someone who can get really really excited about stuff. Seems like a good way to live.

  • A lot of the TED talks that are presented are important, profound, and let's face it, can be pretty heavy. Now we need those, but don't you think the audience appreciate a little, fanciful, 3-minute talk to break that up and lighten the mood?

  • we will always be children deep down, hence why the Japanese have such a crazy culture.

  • @captinseperoth Don't let those fuckers near the Mini Baccarat table...they will rip your balls off!

  • i liked it. why so many thumbs down?

  • i dont get waht his point is ... we all should play lego??

  • This video was a waste of time. From the title, and that it was a TED conference, I expected something more profound -- like temporary housing in disaster zones being erected quickly from giant legos.

  • awesome shirt!

  • Aaah, this video was stupid, aaaah

  • I want that shirt...hes right raisins stay out my cookies

  • this talks are great

  • How is this TED Talk material? Hes just talking about his hobby, nothing innovative, no new ideas, just a bit of humor. It looked like he had about 3-4min to talk, so maybe he was just a time waster between more major talks?

  • @TorxT3D Apparently you didn't get the memo: you aren't the director of TED and thus you don't get to choose the content. If you failed to notice the BLATANT connection between a toy that champions Technology, Entertainment, and Design, and the TED talks maybe you should stick to the Hello Kitty videos.

  • @TorxT3D shhhh... don't say anything against this retarded talk or the overgrow infants will get VEVY VEVY ANGVEY!!!

  • This was embarrassingly vacuous. TED should have prescreened this guy. There's an insightful Technology/Entertainment/and-or Design lecture to be given about Legos, but this certainly isn't it.

  • what was the idea?

  • You know what. I love anything that represents people exploring creativity.

  • he said shit, didn't know you could curse on TED

  • Is it that easy to be a speaker at TED talk?

  • lol yay for nerds.

  • @TherianthropeAndrewH You are commenting on a TED talk.

    You're one too.

  • @Laserp0rn That I am lol yay me.

  • Im glad that this guy has a hobby that he enjoys but why the fuck is he doing a TED talk?

  • what the fuck was this lecture about? "how cool legos are"? thats really all it is. it was a pretty half ass lecture too. lecture progression: 1. finds out he likes legos 2. he buys a shit ton of legos 3. he organizes legos add finny quip 4. finds out about conventions 5. finds about lego software 6. build lego "TED" sculpture what the fuck....
  • LOL "Someone built the Titanic and you're like HOLY SHIT!" LMAO

  • now i feel like a nerd for writing a player/stage driver for the NXT >.<

  • Lego's are for everyone.

  • yeah, keep the inner child alive.

What is an adult really but a child who's gone insane?

  • lol @ the one man standing ovation

  • Damm what would be childhood without lego? Well possible lesser visits by doctor cause the kid swallowed some small parts, or through it to his/her brother/sister. But anyway lego rulez, Loved the pirate series. (could much more cooler if it would be cheeper )

  • "... but the Americans: Ah we'll make some guns for LEGO, no problem!"

    Funny!

  • I guess that is about the pride that his son-house-life so standard that they can be assembled from Lego.

  • I'd like to see really flying stuff made entirely of lego. A lego helicopter which is actually flying is still missing.

  • That was a very fun video to watch! I really enjoyed it...but who the heck is this guy??

  • OMG LEGO IS PLURALLLLLLLL

  • @walikai Exactly! What the heck is this LEGOS nonsense?! - its LEGO!

  • NEEEEEERRRRRRRRRD!!!! lol i still have 50lbs of legos that i have given my kid HEHE

  • I didn't get this one. Why would you ever STOP playing with Lego?

  • legos are the best toy you can buy for your kid.

the best set of inspirational toys for a child is:

    LEGOS

old notebook/laptop you dont use anymore

    rubik's cube

    stones sticks and mud

    paper and cryons.

  • Comment removed

  • Does the Abu Ghraib reference surprise anyone? Last time I checked war wasn't a positive thing. the 372nd Military Police are a bunch of rapists and sodomists, and I'm sure there are others.

  • His daughter sounds like batman...

  • @YoLninYo Chill, he's a lego nerd.

  • There is nothing in this video to imply that he is a racist. It was said to underline the rugged look of the place. Self-righteous idiot you are. FU too.

  • @YoLninYo shut up idiot

    hes just making a joke

there aint shit you can do about it anyways so =P

  • @YoLninYo No , fuck you . You totally and completely missed the point ! congrats, you are an anal retentive..

  • @retepvosnul And what in the fuck was the point? that it is OK to make light of human rights abuses to get cheap laughs? Hey, if he was so fucking desperate for a laugh, he could have made fun of Auschwitz and Dachau while he was at it... because then, even pre-programmed assholes like you would be up in arms! ....

Making fun of holocaust? FUCK THAT SHIT! ... Abu Gghraib? ... mmm.. bring it the fuck on!

    who's the goddamned hypocrite now?

  • @YoLninYo

    lolocaust

  • Love legos but they're so insanely expensive nowadays.

  • I'll admit it, at the age of 30, I constructed a virtual 3d lego version of the kitchen i was a head chef in, and used it as snapshots for my apprentices job references.

    ...they got the job.

  • Never thought I would hear 'furries' in a TED talk... awesome.

  • I didn't know about the cad program.

  • Wow, what is this 'lego' stuff? It looks really cool.

  • Legos are one of the most educational toys available. Not many people know about thier predicesor though. The Anchor-Richter building stones were amazing for thier time. Anchor building stones were designed by Otto Lilienthal, a German who also designed the glider that inspired the Wright brother's first airplane.

  • It's silly, but it's in good humour. The guy is talking about the natural human desire to turn something small and simple into something grander and more complex. That's the point of the talk, not 'whee Lego!'

  • so the tedtalks presentations that get people to think are over now, huh?

  • boring!

  • dont see the relativity to anything

  • Win... I mean it can't ALL be serious nitty gritty... would drive the people actually there insane.

  • pointless

  • Long commercial at the end is absent because whole presentation is commercial itself?

  • since when TED is about rubbish?

  • I thought this was gonna be some kind of simile, like how cars are adult legos

  • best ted ever

  • Only nerds will understand this.

  • Check out brickartist (DOT) com

    Lego brick art work.

  • one giant commercial

the sad part is how I watched the whole thing

  • I want that shirt

  • his message is about embracing something you love even if it dosen't seem socially equitable.

  • Very interesting topic, very poor presentation.
