The bison clearly wouldn't have a problem fighting this guy off. I've never heard of a bear attacking and successfully killing an adult bison neither have I heard of cougars accomplishing this. Their were only a few wolf packs that specialized in hunting bison, usually in winter when they were vulnerable. Even then wolf-bison hunts can last 48 hours and even then sometimes the wolves go home hungry.

@brad238899 - I stand corrected , the last Wild Bison in America are being killed by the wolf as we speak . The wolves have killed over 70,000 Elk since 2000. The N Elk herd of Yellowstone which numbered upwards of 19,000 today hovers at 2,100. The S Herd which winters in Jackson Hole is at 5,000. 2,500 of these stay around Jackson leaving arond 2500 to go back to the Park. In 2006 there were 17,000.

To Bad they are both Dead, I got the Elk count in Jackson Hole , 4,200 down from 17,000. I counted 50 Mature Bulls in a Bull herd of 200-250 the rest were rag horns and spikes. This is what I saw and it was easy to see because there were no Elk.

According to several Web Sites the Buffalo that are in Yellowstone and are being killed by the Wolf right now are the only pure Buffalo left. The rest are part bovine , just like the Wolves in Michigan and Wisconsin are part Coyote. It would seem that who ever created Wolves and Buffalo designed them to be absorbed by civilization. They both can cross quite easily and have. That is what is so perplexing about Wolf advocates bringing pure Wolves to Yellowstone. They have doomed them.
