@sciences8 no not that it took me that long to figure it out, I watched it a few times and then did my project for several hours, but I was listening to the song on repeat for a long time.

This is purely my interpretation, but after studying the song&video for several hours for a school project, I'd say that the song is about a boy in a relationship where he is merely the girl's puppet. Even though he has no say, he still "can't say goodbye," because of the emotional connection. I suppose you could say he commits suicide in the video, and she reveals her true colors when it's too late (think Romeo and Juliet).

I am actually deconstructing this song for a school assignment. It is basically (in my opinion) a manipullative relationship. This guy is so in love with the girl that he can't see that she is using him and essentially changing who he is as a person. By the end who he used to be is gone hence "hes been destroyed" and he leaves in the video but not the song. That bit confuses me.

i agree with MrGPow. i think by the last verse, he realizes that she's destroying him and finally feels his emptiness, but doesn't understand why he feels this way because he's still kind of in love with her.

Sure. The phrase "I'm Taking Leave" roughly means "I'm leaving" or "I'm taking a break." By writing it on the mirror he's proclaiming that he doesn't want to constantly be her puppet or her lover because he can't handle being both.
