I have nothin but respect for Joe Strummer, he's a fuckin legend and constant inspiration. I just don't see the point in dwellin on the fact he's dead like.
It's more like we're in mourning. Still. Every time I listen to The Clash or The Mescelaroes, I crave more but I know that none is going to be released. That's enough to make any man cry. I hate that damn feeling.
I get a fuckin buzz of lisnin to em!! you know the feelin :] I don't associate lisnin to the clash and mescaleros with feelin sad and I don't know why you'd want to. wether you agree you have to see my point.
If you think punk is abut musicianship, you don't get it. I have a feeling you don't play anything, actually. If you did, you'd know that it wasn't Strummer's technical ability that made him great. It's eight note rock man...
No reason to rip on somebody for saying they'd have liked to play with him.

Joe Strummer and the mesc's were not punk son ... they were basically rave ... and I do get the Clash and Joe Strummer, bud. If you want to hear the music I wrote back in the days of Pantera in '94 you can check out the videos I made = Karma Breach. I also made a CLASH video for "GHETTO DEFENDANT" ... if you don't pick up his ":technical abilities" in that song then you have your head too far up your loose ass ... I do that shit for fun ... just like you pretend to know what your talking about.
very defensive, your losing the argument and everyone hates you so you start randomly insulting people. clever. i think you go lock yourself in your room and listen to music that deserves the like of you to listen to it oh i don't no say? the jonas brothers and bananarama
Just to see the expression on his face at 0.50. It shows you just how much heart and soul he poured into everything he did. He has inspired me, and will always, always remember him, and i will make sure my children's children's children's children, and beyond, remember him and how he changed the world with the sheer grit and soul that his fine voice let loose so well. RIP Joe Strummer, the greatest man on the planet. Always in my heart. X
That's not a crime, that's life. You live, you die. His time came before theirs. Mourn Joe, but don't wish ill on others because of his early death. That's something I believe Joe Strummer would have wanted us to think.
Only the good die young is such a foolish, line that somebody once uttered in a moment of despair over the body of a youth. People such as DaVinci and Ben Franklin died at a ripe, old age. I loved Joe Strummer, even met him and hung out with him one night, and yea, I think he died way too early but I can't say, only the good die young because he was middle aged, and damned good! So kill that cliche, now! It's b.s. or sound bite crap! Rest In Peace, Joe-- ya beautiful old sod!
Joe is one of the best musicians to ever walk the earth. Whether it be with the Clash or the Mescaleros, he was always an original thinker. We Miss You Joe.
It's exactly exact. Well, actually it's right at the middle of the what-I-think-is-generally-hoped-for life span of 100. It's sad that as a species we decline so fast after a certain point. Joe looks great at 50. He was a health-buff after all, ran marathons after drinkin' loads of beer, etc. I hope I look that good at 50, except somehow I don't want to find out considering there's only 50 more after that, and it's only downhill.
Absolutely serious. The guy stayed in shape. Read the biography. Drugs are only part of the story. You can do plenty of drugs (especially smoke) and live to be 120 (hence the current [or recently former, I'm not sure] oldest living human).
I know maybe non of you won't care, but I'm playing the Whisky a go go in 2 days, I'm scared shitless, but I always wonder if Joe was alive I'd meet him at the top. I know hes dead and I'll never meet him, but I will try to be like Joe and live on his dreams. My dream is to be a musician that caan make the world a better place and I think he had similar dreams. I love you Joe, RIP. :)
Yes it was ME! To keep my mate warm and he unfortunately wiped his arse on stinging nettles when we were off it!!!!!!!! We told Joe our story at Glastonbury and as you know he wrote it in his song. He laughed his fucking head off and told me to put another log on the fire!!!

Joe was different than everyone. He was truely a pub-rocker at heart. He just had talent and relevance coming out his ears. He sang from the heart and gave 100%. He will never be replaced nor duplicated. Joe Melnor gave more than he got. I am glad that I grew up with "Give 'em enough rope" and followed through to the last Mescaleros c.d. I was never disappointed. I never saw Joe live. I hope future generations will look back on his work and marvel at his brilliance and his dedication. God Bless.
This is from 2003, he recorded it in '02 and it was mixed by the rest of the band after he died. Its on Streetcore, which might be the best album with the Mescaleros. The others were pretty great too though.
I'm pretty sure it's based after Dr. Tom Wolfe's Electric Kool Aid Acid Test. A great deal of the lyrics in the song and on the album reflect that theory. long live strummer!
I wish I was able to see him live but short i discovered him and the clash he died. If there were more of his sort the world surely would be a better place.
this is in my opinion only, he is the person in music and life i look upto the most. no disrespect to these guys i am about to mention as i think they are all fantastic but i think john mellor was the most soul-beautiful of all simply because he WAS NOT as holy as lennon, mystical as dylan, mythical as hendrix or truthfully extreme like ritchie edwards. mellor felt human to me, somebody with the very same natural flaws we ALL have in our personalities.
Positively absolutely the best music ever! Joe was an icon...I wish the current music reflected his efforts. I hate the crap on the radio now. The Clash rules
