aww lol my dad often carries my dobie around too. I did when he was a puppy but now he's too huge for me lol so I kneel down and wrap my arms around his back and stroke his natural floppy ears hehe. He got his tail docked before he was shipped to us but we left the ears alone
i love natural dobermans. mines tail was cropped before we got her, but we still have her normal ears. but her affection is limited lol she only cuddles when SHE wants to

My dog looked just like yours. He was too heavy to carry. At 11 years old, his spine started to fuse together and he wasn't so flexible.
