Damn, get the Funk out of my face!! I was hooked the second this started. I'm a young man but heavy on 80's and 90's music. Now I see i still got a lot I learn. Got a check out the roots
Hey yall, everybody knows, that back in the day, we got down like this. Like my man said, musicians had to be creative to the point that it was all concept from the musicians inner creative juices. This kind of stuff is raw talent from the Kats. You also had to know how read music, and compose concepts. Let alone be a master of your instrument. This Joint has great vocal arrangments as well. Great Vocals and fantastic muscianship. Love it, and want more of it. BassKat Detroit MI
so i'm an old schooler...and? you kiddies will have to forgive me, but I wish the younguns of today would learn to play real instruments and lay off the computer generated crutch that has led us so far away from an authentic and original sound. Now, now, B4 you get all pissed, think about it. If what I say isn't true, why is the music of old DESPERATELY NEEDED to create something "new"? (chuckle). The originators of this music didn't have to rely on "samples" it was created from concept.
@btinsley1 When youngins ask you what happened and why don't they have music like this anymore? I know most of them are just duped by a lack of exposure to the real deal. We old schoolers know they don't really come any more real than George Duke!
@countryfunkinbunkin: actually, more younguns get indignant because they think the ol schoolers are putting them down, when actually, they need to hear more of the originating music - then listen to how it is rapped over, chopped, autotuned and blended - then excluding the lyrics that was found in the original. which is better? one needs not ask me...the REAL talent is really within the originator and not the emulator....feel that for a minute. GD is a keyboarding god - foreals (chuckle)
Answer: Enter the lazy, greedy, fast trackin' "artist". Not really in it for the music as much as for the coin and strokin' the ego. What's interesting is how one can actually get to the point where they believe their own myth.
I occasionally get a chance to see a local guitarist (Bruce Bartlett) and one time it was at a bar up in Salem. No Cover. Tell me this cat isn't it for the love of the music and not the coin...
If there was no music bias he would be even more famous. I had this album as a freshmen in high school. He is still making music like this. Pure genius. Fuck on George.
Wow...this a You tube gem...I had this joint on vinyl as a freshman in highschool wow this brings back real old school memories of having to replace the "needle" on the record player :)
Since it appears no one responded to fomomoto3 I will. Those lines came from "I Am For Real." The song was on the same album as the one pictured above. "I Am For Real" recieved no airplay on the West Coast back in the day. That song is my idea of CLASSIC Jazz "Funk."
OMG!!!!! I've been lookin for this CD forever! My mom used to jam it when I was a little girl . . . . everyone thought I didn't know what I was talkin about. I think Sheila E played drums?
so sharp yet soo funky!
