  • NO LAYNE NO CHAINS

  • This isn't a song...this is epic music...so fu**** great

  • It seems that the guitars are crying in this song.

  • Why were bass lines so catchy back then?

  • One of the best Alice in Chains hook riffs in a song ever.

  • what can i say , what i c is un real.

  • Love the intro, guitar sound resembles zakk wylde, and the tone follows closely on I Stay Away. Nutshell is my favorite off the EP, just wish it lasted longer.

  • the chorus is a bitch to learn on bass

  • love this song

  • such a beautiful song :..)

  • AIC was---hell, IS---the soundtrack to my depression. And I mean that in the most beautiful way possible.

  • @GreasyRabbit1975

I hear ya brother. Me too. Cheers.

  • @aicmarinegirl we should be friends :)

  • Who can play the bass to this? <3

  • @VotzSKiLLioN I played in a AiC tribute band from 99-07 I can play almost every song on bass.

  • @keeperoftheforest witchcraft!!! only kiddin, but this song is just a masterpiece, It gives me chills

  • @keeperoftheforest exactly! It's like wrong but right. absolutely genius. I thinks it's a false flat C chord

  • @keeperoftheforest

  • The one's that disliked should munch on 20 inch penis for "at least" one year straight till they get a clue!..... :D evil.

  • @1Happyevil they would enjoy it

  • This song, along with Jar Of Flies in general, holds dear to me such sentimental value...beyond what words could express. Just beautiful and awe-inspiring.

  • "ROTTEN APPLE" IS SYMBOLIC FOR AMERICAN SOCIETY/AMERICAN PEOPLE, THE FUCKED-UP ONES THAT ARE EVIL, THE FUCKED-UP ONES THAT ARE GOOD, IT'S ABOUT EVERYTHING & EVERYONE.

KEEP IN MIND THAT LIFE IS SUFFERING, AND WITHOUT SUFFERING, THERE WOULD NO COMPASSION.

  • @tickedoffnow dude, calm down, no need to use caps

  • 62 are part of the "ROTTEN APPLE"

  • im 17 now and everything about AIC speaks to me on a deep level i just wish i was around for their prime years

  • @Supaduck0: There's still tons of good music out now. It's just not hugely in the mainstream (unless you talk about Adele, then yes). I was born in October of 93, during the Grunge era, and while I love 90's music, I also love 2000's and 2010's music, the good kind. Just search a little deeper for that treasure.

  • goosebumps everytime i give a listen.

  • I was a teeenager when this shit came out and I was on rock and crank and we all loved Layne for telling these punks how it really was...our generation was hardcore compared to these cats! We were kids when we did this shit. Can u imagine kids in a garage slammin dope(14 & 15 )listening to this band? Well it happened. We did it every day...AIC is too hardcore!

  • @pmejia14 AIC was never about being hardcore..

  • @RHCPwoot o yeah your an expert, sorry. figure of speech dumbfuck! hardcore,bad,cool,tight,etc...i meant they were too cool. Good enough for you fuckface?

  • Used to always listen to this one, Room a Thousand Years Wide/Mailman (Soundgarden) and Rearviewmirror to pull me out of a funk. This was my most-played song.

  • I was born in their prime, but I wish I was born before their prime to experience the music as they released it. But still, fucking Alice in Chains, man!

  • let's just say if I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life, Alice in Chains is my undisputed choice.

  • This song brings back soooooo many memories.

    Remember fucking Dan? Schweinfurt, Germany

  • The fact that this song and Don't Follow are from the same album is just breathtaking. Their 2 most underappreciated songs, both brilliant

  • I heard this song when I was 13 and it still gives me the same feeling listening to it. layne staley was a brilliant mind who's delve into the darkness ended his life way to short love ya brother

  • @nailbatgore I feel the same way,I was 14

  • @ghostwhiskey I was30, when I first saw a "Dirt" poster in a neighbor kid's window, I was 40 when I first heard them....and still listen to them at least weekly.

  • @jwgalloway2112 Damn...10 years in between....sorry....you could have seen them live with the original line up....

  • @nailbatgore Layne Staley's delve into darkness is why we have this music....drugs = great tunes...

  • alice in chains is bad fuckin ass

  • i miss the days befor i ate off the apple:(

  • Paul Mccartney is dead

    peacE anD lovE

  • This album (Jar Of Flies) and the album Sap are true masterpieces.

  • @MetalHeadFrank666 Dirt is amazing as well

  • Legendary

  • This song is true AIC. One of their very best which is saying alot. RIP Layne...and Mike.

  • The intro gives me chills.

  • @Kwwwyjibo indeed brother, cheers!

  • @spermcountzero of course... this song is was recorded in 1994... Staley is singing here...

  • @federicoribeiro Comment was meant for this vid, I had them both open at the same time

    cvuMWIyN_CU

  • @spermcountzero Ok it sounds good...

  • fuck mainstream.

  • It boggles the mind to think that this album was written AND recorded in one week.

  • Thinking about AIC without Staley is just painful

  • @asinzuar It is, but the new music is still fucking great! Yeah, what I see is unreal...

  • This new lead singer gives Alice In Chains back it's sound..... this song is epic, this song is beautiful, this song is heart and soul, this song is Alice In Chains.

  • @spermcountzero This isn't William Duvall, it's Layne Staley.

  • The right opening riff can mean everything with a (good) melancholy song

  • Best AIC Chain song ever.. in my opinion anyways

  • 0:00-0:55.....No.Fuckin.Way

  • This song reminds of Sunnydays siiting outside and just seeing and thinkig about life. Where i been and were i want to go.

  • Grunge is just a blanket term for early 90s Seattle music, used by people who don't understand music and can't classify this properly. I believe the word they are looking for is "art", but what would they know about that?

  • @MisterSkillet100 well said. i always refer to this genre as the seattle 90's shit, ya know, real music hehe =) i hate all these names for shit like "grunge" or "goth". it just gives ppl who would otherwise agree that the music is awesome something to argue about lol.

  • goooooooood

  • Only Layne and Jerry could write something like this

  • my -'holy fuck im drunk and i wanna listen to a good song as i pass out'- song

  • as an ex-dug addict for years myself trying to kill my demons, heroin, crack, cocaine, meth, xtasy, mushrooms, weed, and pain killers up the ass,,im surprised im not partying with layne in heaven right now

  • @34dbelanger your just the best

  • now that's how you use a talkbox

  • One of the best songs and album

  • i think that Jar of Flies is one of the best grunge albuns not only for Layne's voice but the bass and guitar riffs are epic

  • This album is such a masterpiece. If you listen to it from start to finish, it is an emotional journey like no other. A different emotion for every track. Truly genius and guess what? It was written in about a week. One of the best bands ever ladies and gentlemen.

  • RIP Layne. You were amazing!

  • Rip Layne And Mike

  • 0:08 i thought i got a fb message:/

  • Grunge? No... Hard Rock at it's best...

  • The guitar is just wonderful....rock on Jerry Cantrell.

    RIP Layne & Mike.

  • I remember catching flies in a jar, when I was a child in the Bronx, many years ago. Listening to this song, and looking at this album art, makes me think sometimes children grow up so fast...eat of the apple so young.

  • these kind of songs gets me a reason to get up in the morning. Alice has more than one... what a fucking band. Probably the best ever

  • For 60 people..."Ignorance is spoken"

  • I love this album cover

  • Back when music was still an art form..

  • @Supaduck0 Still is gotta find the right bands sir

  • @Supaduck0 You had shit back then too ;-)

  • @Supaduck0 WELL SAID MY FRIEND

  • the bridge in this song with bass and harmonics is one of the most beautiful passages of music I've heard from a modern band

  • kids these days are into dubstep and lil wayne. they have no clue what it takes to make actual music like this. its pathetic and im ashmed. im 21 and my generation might be the only hope to save rock n roll, or music period

  • @chrisizzle6969 Well said bro keep tuning in and jamming these tunes it is in your hands that more young people hearing this music.....

  • There's not enough grunge fans still around for the ones that are to argue about which bands are better. Just support the genre.

  • @mungill0 better yet just support great music in general like this :)

  • @mungill0 good point,i still dont like to call it grunge though

  • alternative came after grunge if it was alternative it would be called alternative not grunge

  • i don't care about subgenre's (my opinion), and i was merely bringing up a question as to why you we're expressing your opinion by saying that you care about subgenre's and that AIS isn't the "best band" (in your opinion), when you ultimately stated that wouldn't preach such things. Regardless of the FACT that opinions are subjective, why do we still express our opinions (like you and I are currently doing)?

  • This song is so dark and mysterious, a complete work of art. I know it's inspired by drugs (like a lot of Layne's stuff), but it's almost like a drug in itself, such is its magnetism.

  • @Supaduck0 this song is NOT about drugs.

  • there's some kind of deity is this song...to say i love it is just not enough...

  • why all good artists commits a suicide :(((

  • @kakka626 It wasnt suicide for this guy...just a little to high

  • is it just me or does anyone else miss the 90's

  • @pennywisebiker You ain't alone.

  • I love all grunge, Soundgarden is my favorite though....even though I don't really think of them as grunge.

  • Layne I love you, thanx for your amazing talent

  • God damn Nirvana fans will you please stick to Nirvana videos if you can't stop yourselves from being arrogant jackasses?

  • Alice In Chains and Nirvana I think while completely different, were the best of the 4, I personally prefer Pearl Jam over Soundgarden, but I dont think eithet have the same impact on me as Nirvana and Alice In Chains.

  • lol oingo boingo

  • @Sharonc2010

    : (

  • This song reminds 59 people of a rotten apple eaten.

  • when i turned on this record i though to myself "other than the last action hero stuff, this is the first record Mike Inez is on."

Soon after i was blown away.

  • Alice in Chains was a friggen amazing band. RIP Layne Staley.

  • Whats the fucking point of this whole "THIS IS BETTER THAN THAT!" Rave that's going on? I love Nirvana way more but I never come to an Alice in Chains video just to say that. I'm all for voicing opinions but it really is just a tirade of choking other people with your own opinion. Just take it down a notch. We can all be friends can't we?

  • @VaticanAssassion No we can't, at least not until you admit AIC is the best band ever!

Haha just kidding, we're all friends :D.

  • @alemor22 I was about to be like "Society is doomed" haha

  • my favorite songs by Alice in Chains that I can play over and over; down in a hole, rooster, heroin, bleed the freak, sea of sorrow, nutshell, love hate love, and many more... but over the past few years this song has really stuck on me and I play it the most when I have to do homework for college or take a long drive somewhere. such a great song.

  • This is a sick song. Hey ah fucking na na.

  • one of the greatest songs played by the greatest band ever..HANDS DOWN

  • in my opinion alice in chains were the ultimate grunge band of all time and still are, nirvana dont compare

  • Comment removed

  • im just a fan of grunge

  • one of my favorite bands.

  • sometimes i listen to nirvana...then i listen to soundgarden and realise how stupid i was..after that i listen pearl jam and i can't belive what is happening to me....after that i listen ALICE IN CHAINS and i come back to earth and i'm fuckin' glad that happened

(P.S. i'm sry if i spelled something wrong...english is not my mother language)

  • Man, that opening bass line just fucking cuts into you, and the rest of the song is just amazing. In fact this whole EP inspired me to pick up the bass. Thank you Jerry, Mike, Sean and Layne. For everything.

  • I'm having this played @ my wake.. Seriously

  • Not as good as Nirvana or Mudhoney, but I enjoy their music too.

  • @Ulewadam head butt ;p

  • I just love the AIC sound.

  • NIRVANA is much better than alice in chains but i love AIC too

  • I don't see why it matters which Grunge band is "better", they all liked each other, they were all friends, they all got along, plus they shared one of the best genres in rock history, you can like whoever you want, and I'll do the same, but there is no sense in arguing who is "better" than who or who is "real grunge." Just stop arguing and listen to this amazing song by this amazing band.

  • @GreenGhost81 But alice in chains is the best.

  • @GreenGhost81 First off, grunge is just a label of the time period..it's not a actual musical genre. Secondly, who gives a fuck if they were all friends..some bands are better than others. AIC is the best and people need to acknowledge that.

  • @MrTufflong Ahem, First off, Grunge is a sub-genre of Alternative Rock Music, you don't believe me, look it up. Second, I'm pretty sure I give a fuck, because the point is that they were all friends and respected each other. No band is better than another, musical appreciation is completely subjective. AIC is the best band from your perspective, while I really like them, I don't believe there is a "best band" and I wouldn't preach that concept either because they are just my opinions.

  • @GreenGhost81 Then if that rant was just your opinion too, why did you preach it?

  • @efooty09 I don't know which part you were referring to. Grunge is a sub-genre of music, that is a fact and the last person to reply to my comment was too ignorant to know that. All I am saying is I don't get why everyone has to argue over petty bullshit such as "who's better" when it's all opinionated and subjective. We all have one thing in common, we all like AIC, so talk about AIC instead of arguing, there's no reason for it.

  • @GreenGhost81 People have that "my dick is bigger than your dick" state of mind so when they say they listen to __ band they hope their friends, or lack thereof, cheer them on to make them feel validated rather than be part of the masses that enjoy all kinds of music and fade into obscurity. I fucking love Soundgarden and their former Temple of the Dog self among so many other bands, they can't accept the fact we love all kinds of music :D

  • fuck Pearl Jam grunge is AIC and Nirvana period.

  • @TheMarthamarble wrong, u mean fuck pearl jam is awesome and aic too................who is nirvana? exactly, an extinct band that never did anything great and never would.....

  • Nirvana and AIC are awesome and very different but Nirvana is the really the greatest.

  • I bought this CD when it came out and listened to it for about two weeks straight starting the day I buried one of my best friend's. Today is the anniversary of his death. I'm listening to it again, because I'm burying another close friend this week. This album means so much to me.

  • RIP Mike Inez. You inspired me to play the Bass Guitar <3

  • @fpsZach1 uh crap i meant Mike starr >.< i know mike inez is still alive, i just screwed up. heh...

  • @gamegurl67 Hey buddy, I think you mean MIKE STARR. Lmfao.

  • @AzhiaziamL i did mean mike starr oops i just screwed upp

  • @gamegurl67 Yeah, Mike Inez is still alive... Mike Inez has been AIC's bassist since 93'. Starr left after Facelift, Sap, And Dirt. Inez played bass for Jar Of Flies, Tri-Pod, and BGWTB. He is alive and well right this second.
