Nice video dude. While your movements look a bit odd for judo they look very practical for mma without a gi. I only train in judo but I would say that some judo techniques requires modifications like this to suit the no gi situation and to make sure you end up on top (which doesn't matter as much in judo if you get ippon). Just my opinion tho
lol all these judo idiots need to shut the the fuck up with their osoto hariagoshi mata gari bullshit like stop trying to classify it.. i read this shit everywhere i go so annoying whatever helps u sleep at night
Hey, here's a no gi grappling technique: (my brother and i developed it some weeks ago) it's how to do morote seoi nage without gi, as you know morote seoi nage is a te-waza, you throw uke over your shoulder if you're right handed you have to grab the right sleve with your left hand and the collar of the gi with the right, the problem is that now there's no gi, so what to do? you have to press your hand to the gap between the pec and the shoulder, then you can put your forearm under his armpit.
your pulling hand should be pulled towards your chin not around your waist it works much better gets him off balance easier (: and just throw that leg in there without hesitation it will get in there and he will go for a ride
balletman, check out Human Weapon Judo - Uchi mata for a detailed explanation of the proper mechanics of the throw especially as it pertains to the hips.
Nice gym btw, I wish I had that much room to set up a gym.
Did you get 1:39 from Randy Couture's "Wrestling for Fighting"? :)
Also, I usually just go straight to 2:30 without even trying the donkey kick :P
as some people have been saying, really sink your hips in deep whenever you go for a hip throw. When I go for a hip toss, I put the right side of my right hip against the left side of the opponent's left hip (or vice-versa). You get great power as well as great control (in addition to being able to stay on your feet easier).
Right on, hip placement and movement is critical in grappling arts, I would caution the video author and anyone watching to be careful not to keep the hips so far out when executing the throw as this also opens you up to getting countered more easily as well.
honestly dude i think you need to train more before you start teaching throws. judging by what i saw in this video your a yellow belt in judo or maybe a higher bjj white belt?
uchi mata isnt a leg throw like he is making it, its a hip throw. All he is doing is splitting his uke's legs apart he has no upper body or hip contact which is what actually makes it a throw.
one important detail: instead of whizzing the arm just wrap it around the waist line or lower back and grip his elbow instead of his wrist from a under/over clinch. Ur uchi-mata will go in deeper and is counters will be more difficult for him to execute. Not bad on the uchi's salvages especially the one I use the knee-bar.
Need more Kuzushi. Uke was never unbalanced in any of them and it's hard to throw when he's not. Uchi Mata isn't a leg technique. The Hikite and head movement throws him. Also, in the Victor's throw, you're supposed to dive between the opponent's legs to affect the Kuzushi and then lock your legs around the opponent's for the knee bar. That way the opponent can't escape. Watch Erik Paulson's instructionals for how he does it.
I've never seen Uchi Mata to uppercut. That's a good idea.
I like your variations alot for the failed uchimata. Often in competition you dont get the uchimata right away, you will see people jumping for it. But I have never considered the leg pick, however the transition into what looks like harai-goshi is something I like to do personally.
However, I have one comment. You need to improve your technique some more if you want to be effective with hip throws. Your hip position seems kind of odd.. and when ever you throw him hes falling to the side. gj
@balletman THANKS A LOT...SERIOUSLY....i was trying to learn the overhook variation and 6/10 times i could never get them over my hip...ill be sure to try the ankle pick.
Looks like from this video and the ogoshi one you've been working on your judo! Picked up a new trainer, or self-taught? The last alternative you're using looks like a Taio-toshi, an arm throw. To clean up the move, try dropping your body way down and sticking your leg out even further, sort of like a flying side-kick pose on the ground.
If you're looking for more judo throws from no-gi, Karo Pasiyan has a really good dvd set for beginners, as it's really broken down into parts and details.
@balletman Ouchi Gari is a rear throw without using your hip. Uchi Mata is a forward using your hip, the leg is to stop your opponent from moving around instead of over. Hope this helps in explaining the difference Judo can make all the difference in getting the takedown.
Ouchi gari is to throw your opponent towards their back, so you are pushing forward. The leg motion is more like a reap or a footsweep. In Uchi mata, the throw comes from the hip, with your leg lifting your opponent onto your hip so you can throw them.
@matrix1951 they could look similar but there're a lot of differences, yeah both are leg trows but in o uchi gar you have to push and put your wheight downwards and the reap is to knee or below on the other hand in uchi mata you have to pull and lift the hips are a lot more important and the reap is to the inner thigh; and the main difference for judokas is that o uchi gari makes us fall backwards but uchi mata makes us "fly" and turn in the air

Yeesh, technique is not great here. You don't hook the leg when you do the sweep. Keep it straight and let it slide up the leg.

I don't think you have a very good uchi mata. I don't think you should be teaching it. What is your rank in Judo?

Yep. Of course, I come from a wrestling background, but the body mechanics are still the same.
Randy Couture's three rules for a hip-based throw:
-move hips past opponent's hips
-maintain tight grip on opponent's upper body
-bump opponent's hips with your hips.

What is going on here? This isn't a good uchimata. With an uchimata, you're not swinging with your leg. This is...weird.

@judo4ever3 im not sure about what ur saying....bcause according to Nage no kata, uchimata is classified as ashi-waza(leg throw technic)
