Hello to Lee Shapiro, Joey Long, Jerry and D Callas. Miss you guys. You guys have extraordinary talent. I would like to see I Wonder Why released. The song has great chord changes and modulation. Anthony DiCarlo, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Nice to hear an undiscovered track from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Mr. Shapiro, it's nice to hear your comments and the additional information you share concerning this particular recording. I recently heard you as part of a multi-part special regarding Frankie Valli and the Seasons on BBC radio. It was made available on the GILG website. I enjoyed your work with the Seasons, both live on on record, from 1975, at Madison Square Garden, through the late '70's. Best, Len Gersten
I don't take it personally but they owe the fans who supported them through the 70s(and since) and they seem only interested in making money...'$1m a week so the rumour goes. Whatever happened to an artists creative history and those that helped create the legend of JB? Give something back I say
@LeeShapiroMusic1 Sure is nice to be messaging one of The 4 Seasons. Let me say I've been collecting since 1975. I have everything that's been made available so far. And my heart keeps beating because I'm waiting on this unreleased stuff. Thanks for everything , but do something to help get these songs released. MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ARE WAITING !!!!!! I'll take anything. Unfinished songs, outtakes, I'll buy it.
Motown proved to be the wrong label for the group. They were promoting the R&B and dance music of the day and we weren/t getting the attention needed. Bob and Frankie continue to run their show most effectively.
It's great to hear from you ,Lee. I've been a fan of all generations of Seasons... and of course the incomparable Frankie.... since the beginning.I'm re-living the dream with frequent visits to Jersey Boys in London. I have almost everything on record, tape or CD, so it's great to hear this "new" song. Chameleon was a brilliant album. Hope all is well with you.
Yes you are right Lee....but what is frustrating is that around 50 tracks recorded at Motown are still unreleased. Bob and Frankie wont let us have them. I can't understand why they have treated the fans so badly. They claim they are unfinished but not all of them are. We know!!
@MowestChameleon always love reading articles on Frankie & the 4 Seasons. i thought motown has authority over those tracks. it's been too long. over 35 years. i hope those tapes are well preserved. i like the sound & music of the 1970's. ****
@LeeShapiroMusic1 wrong label or not motown's job was to handle & promote all their groups. i've heard that no assistance was given. can't understand why ? however you, frankie, & the boys got out there & worked hard & accomplished a lot. i've met & shook hands w/ you & the guys back in april of 1977. thank you for your smiles & kindness. still waiting for those motown unreleased singles. hope to see you again someday. ****still truly miss the 1970's.****
First of all... Thank you all for your kind words.
"I Wonder Why" was written and produced by Demiitri Callas and myself. It was recorded in 1973 at a studio in Maryland. (I was 20 yrs old!) The performers are Frankie Valli, Gerry Polci, Joe Long, Dimitri Callas, and me, Lee Shapiro. The truth is that just as we placed the master with Motwon, we left the label. Too bad.
This song is a masterpiece!! I first heard it about five years ago & fell in love with it immediately. I've never heard it sound so good before. Frankie is my favorite singer, and while there are tons of great songs that he sang, this is one of Frankie's best performances ever!! And of course, lots of credit goes to the wonderful Seasons too!! I'm so happy to have found this here.
think im going to cry

I understand your position but I think Bob and Frankie deal with many legal issues. Not knowing what red tape is attached, it's hard to comment.

Bobby and Frankie are likely to be focused on everything "Jersey Boys". Don't take it personally.
