Be carefull when adding your potassium nitrate with glass because the sudden temperature change can cause the glass to crack or shatter. This is my experience atleast when using a glass bowl so do not be stingy and invest in real glass or add the kno3 first and then turn up the temperature.
Great video! When I perform procedures like this, I typically vacuum filter the hot solution. This removes suspended particles and other solid impurities. I've seen a brownish murky solution of nitrate fertilizer go to nearly clear after just to passes. And of course you can always perform multiple crystallizations if you need a really pure product.
You know that the gas coming out if full of toxins?! Please do this outside, if too cold outside then do it inside and get cancer or any undeveloped disease in years!
@cosmin0192837465 The steam is just water evaporating and unless you can cite your sources for the carcinogenic vapor, it's simply harmless gaseous water.
Well you have the refrigerator pump, it makes really good vacuum on the other end use it for real vacuum filtration, I do that all the time. After some time it is necessary to add some motor oil to the pump via vacuum side and eventually it will seas from rust. WD-40 helped My one but after year of service I think I need a new one. At the beginning I was worried about the temperature of the pomp but now I run it constantly so it is too hot to touch it. It still works.
Fantastic video! It was really cool to see the crystals forming as you decanted off the water. Potassium nitrate crystals are really pretty. It would be cool to look at them under a microscope.
Remember. If you aren't part of the solution you're part of the precipitate!
@zhmapper Hi , i bought NPK fertilizer which has 17% KNO3 , which is kinda shit , but NPK fertilizer is really cheap , any way i put 1 kilo of it in a bowl and added water that i boiled in ketel , some of it stayed at the bottom , and 70 % mixed , after i have put it in the freezer what should i do ? , thanks GR8 vid .
That is kind of funny that the container is marked in fluid ounces to sell a solid product...
Then again, honey (a liquid) is sold by weight... so who knows...
Maybe someone's just trying to see if we're paying attention.

Does this has to be done in glass container ? Can't I just use something different like a pot soup (made of aluminium)?

Rather then wait for it to dry overnight, couldn't you heat it on the out plate to drive out the water?

Very well shown and done!

It's in fluid measure because you make a solution inside of the bottle.
