  • Very nice video set. You did a great job on this bike, and it's nice to see creativity for doing this without specialized tools.

  • You can't even do a paint job right...

  • you spelled paint wrong

  • you are so fucking stupid why not just remove the rear freewheel and replace it with a fixed cog eventually the jb weld is gunna break off from to much stress

  • suicide hubs are super sketch... would no reccomend

  • what kind of bike is that????

  • Aww, I have European dropouts. The axles in this vid won't fit mine. :(

  • how do you "freeze" the free wheel!?!?!?

  • how did u make the freewheel stop moviing backward!

  • I like this guy, properly down to earth. the way its fixed is pretty ghetto, but seems to work for the fella.

  • your using the wrong type of frame

  • oh man ... i understood each and every video of yours perfectly but the most important part! :( jadyweld? chimmed it? what have you done? you took the cassette apart and gutted it! but what have you done after this??? please help me

  • @prim3minister He means JB Weld which is an epoxy.i would say after going to the trouble of taking the freewheel off you should just fit a fixed cog, they come pretty cheap on ebay too, then just use some locktight or JB weld to make sure the lockring doesn't spin off. much better than messing around filling the freewheel with Weld!

  • change your fucking smoke detector battery. Jesus christ.

  • @JmChadillonProduct It's called shoe sole fucking with the ground.

  • I like the set up. I'm making a mountain bike into a single speed. How many teeth did you leave on the rear wheel? Thanks

  • is that bike still working perfect? me and my friend are building fixies and i just want to know? btw that looks really cool

  • @doctorandrewmorgan yes it is. i had to change the axle on the rear wheel once because it got bent. i used a mountain bike axle and its been fine since.

  • @lespaulgtars no.

  • if i have a cassette and i reverse some teeth will it make it a fixed gear

  • Might wanna take off the kickstand..

  • ahh that seat looks horrible

  • how did you actually freeze the freewheel

  • @ArodProduction He used his freezer. Duh..

  • you use freewheel?fag.but pretty cool bike

  • how did you freeze the cassette?

  • Change the battery in your smoke detector, dude.

  • Dude, do u have two cogs on there? wtf and ur tires look a bit thick but nice bike.

  • how do you make your bike chain tighter ?

  • @MRshakalohawaii

(uploader) first i cut my chain to fit towards the smaller

size. then i pull on the rim to pull the slack out

of the chain while keeping the wheel centered.

  • @neilmandude

thanks for flagging this ass. when you build one

for yourself then answer by your own experience.

For the rest of you, Ive bent an axle doing skids.

My biggest problem is keeping the chain on when cranking down hard, b

    because the bullshit frame bends.

  • @santaspuppet Yeah, i built one. Check it. fixedgeargallery(dot)com/2010/sept/1/NeilLaxamana/NeilLaxamana.htm

  • can u make a video in showing how u put the wheel back together or show how u made the back wheel a fixed gear

  • A good skid will loosen that right up. :]

  • what do you meen by froze up

  • front drive sprocket? rear drive sprocket?

  • is there a way to remove the gear line things?

  • @isledalfino cut them not to low then sand em off with sand paper =)

  • cut them off with a hack saw then file them smooth.

  • how did u make it a free wheel?

  • can you realy explain how to put th freewheel back on the hub on your other vid.

  • So you put Jb Weld into the freewheel. But how about the freewheel itself? you have to lock that to the hub otherwise its really dangerous if it gets loose while trying to skid in traffic.

Read that you used it for polo, would suppose thats not nearly as dengerous then and also with that kiddie gear it woulnd´t go as fast anyway.

But you should seriously think of what you tell others to do since it´s not at all safe. Someoneelses blood and brains could already be on you hands.

  • i wouldnt agree to you, simply because for people whoever is able to undersstand of what this guy is saying, must know a knowledge base that this is unsafe.

only agreement is that he shouldve gave a warning out.

  • @dangsingraven

I woked as bicyclerepairman before, and you wouldn´t belive the stupid shit people do for example to save a few bucks.

Seriously, the one thing you need to build a fixie is a proper backwheel.

And also If you are not used to riding without a brake; would adwise people to have a back break instead of a front one.

  • @Positron57 i guess your right... haha i quit fixie thouugh.. :(

  • @Positron57 thats stupid, front brakes give you 70% of the stopping power. much better to have a front brake compared to a back brake. Oh and btw the correct term for 'bicyclerepairman' is bike mechanic...

  • these are horizontal drop-outs man

  • hey where can i get a fixie for under 400? mssg me

  • if you liv near la california theres a good place in ontario called bumsteads bikes they sell the Skinny Benny that is like 370 and it is good

  • check craiglist hawaiianeze

  • what happens if your bombin down a hill? do you have to go goofy style with your legs out,and hope the pedals dont mangle your shins+ankles?

ive never tried a fixie, but imagine it would take the fun outa those long freewheel moments where u dont need to peddle for miles.

nearest i got was a peddle back brake on my first bmx, which was a banana yellow huffy, made of solid lead.

  • Most people don't bomb hills without a front break for safety. I use a front break and it's easy to bomb hills, you just keep a little pressure on the pedals. You can also lock up the chain and therefore back wheel.

  • How did u cease the freewheel?

  • Didnt you hear the bit about JD Weld??

  • did you buy a new fixed gear hub or did you make one?

if you did make one please make a video on it.

    thanks.

  • you don't have much room left in the dropouts if the nuts aren't tight, you're gonna hurt yourself.

  • sketchy fuckin bike but im gonna try this out tonight

  • good fuckin lord, you cowboy. i feel unsafe just knowing this thing exists.

  • I just built a fixed gear for free in one day off of your you tube. I did a few things different , like poor solder in the freewheel. It all works great,

  • please show us how you did it.

  • gay.

  • How have you made a fixed without a race hub?

  • @Midnightgroover cuz hes gangster

  • your bike is so sketchy

  • clean!!! so how much were your expenses into making it a fixed gear? I was thinking of making my own fixie too but i dont knoes how to [T___T ] and i dont have enough money, just a couple of bills.

  • put a half link on that chain so its not so close to the edge of the drop out

  • My reason was i didnt have the money to buy a hub and cog and spokes at the time. As well as the challenge of making a fixed gear with the smallest budget possible. That wheel has gone through one bike and one axle to the moment playing polo. i do have cages know and that was the first money i spent on it actually.

  • How are you keeping tension in the chain without a tensioner? Vertical drop outs don't allow for adjustment.

Awesome videos by the way! I hate specialized tools and needless complexity!

  • His frame is horizontal dropouts, just not the full-on track dropouts. Check Sheldon Brown's site, the "Singlespeed Conversions" page.

  • those are actually now called semi-horizontal dropouts, because many single speed frames use track dropouts, and saying that "my single speed has track dropouts" is kind of confusing

  • They are actually just horizontal. semi vertical requires around 45 degrees and hardly any fore-aft adjustment

  • no? they are semi horizontal. I worked at a bike shop for almost a year, bro.

  • I've got 10 years behind me... Those are horizontal dropouts. rearward facing horizontals are called fork ends as the wheel doesn't drop out of them.

  • I am saying they are semi horizontal, not semi vertical. They stopped calling them horizontal dropouts when bikes using modified track ends hit the scene. Now, in a way to differentiate between the two, the ones in this video are called semi-horizontal dropouts by the majority of people. Calling them horizontal dropouts would just be confusing.

  • The scene is not correct. What you call horizontal are actually fork ends.

What I call horizontal are also called horizontal by Sheldon Brown. Semi-horizontal are usually made of forged steel, are shorter and have more angle to them. Nuf said.

  • dude, why didn't you just use a hub and a cog? it seems kinda ass backwards to go the route you did, but maybe you had a reason... plus you crazy man, no cages on those pedals?

  • why would you want to seize it up?

  • To make it a fixed gear.

  • great vids man. I am taking on the same project soon. The JB Weld seems like a great idea.

  • Cool. I wrote my comment while your video was still playing (before you actually mentioned how you did it.) If I had waited until the end of your video, my question would've been answered. Would still like to see the video anyway. Thanks!

  • I am working on that video. I used JB Weld. I did this at my own risk and i suggest you do the same. I am not a professional bike mechanic but i have worked on cars professionally for several years. i have mechanical knowledge and ability. Not that you need it, just have common sense. I took the freewheel apart, removed all the internals, cleaned it up very well with brake cleaner. Then I shimmed it so that when I tighten the lock ring it wont have any play. I let the JB Weld sit for about 2days.

  • How did you seize up the freewheel? Are you going to post a video of that step?

  • I would say at least 150 miles later it still holding. I'm using this rim for bike polo now and looking to do this on another rim for a commuter but I'll be welding that one as well as JB Weld. With that said, make sure you clean everything properly, the lock ring tightens correctly and you us a quality JB Weld.I'm sure there is something better than JB Weld at Home De Pot ;) but i haven't looked just make sure you don't use the cheap shit. Also, many people have told me this is suicide. :)
