difficult then you can understand how difficult is to play kaida correctly. So we must not criticise someone by saying that he has played a simple composition.
@vvvroops Once after a concert a young man asked Ustad Ahmadjaan Thirakwa that " What is difficult to play in tabla?". Ustadji didn't pay attention to him and just said ignoring him that "The whole tabla is difficult". But the young man kept insisting with his question, Ustadji realized that really wanted to "learn" the answer. He said that to play the correct "Dha" at the right time is itself very difficult. You must understand the philosophy behind his words. If to play the dha is (contd.)
Now viewed this video.....well just not impressed at all! I have known Dexter for a few years now and it seems as if he has not improved one bit! It was very sad to see people actually liking this....however it is understandable because I am sure all of those people really don't know anything much about tabla at all. To people comparing this to compositions played by ustad ji it is extremely disappointing because although ustad ji might play a simple compostion he might play it in chaugun or ar
I knew Trinidad had some good musicians ... but never knew about Dexter. He seems to be a fine tabla player. His use of Kinar as in Delhi baaz is so amazing ... I wish Youtube had some more solo of his ...I am not finding any here
damn its hard to play this kaida with such speed and clarity. those compalining that this is a simple composition should try and play it at such speed and maintain clarity. its not easy at all.
The violin part is actually simple in that few notes are used. It's the tabla part which is very complex in contrast. Both have their place and beauty. Artistry is more than complexity and simplicity. It's being unique in style and doing everything with love. Well done, Dexter and Pandit Ramesh.
I would like to say that the violin part is more simple in that only a few notes are used. It is the tabla part which is actually very complex. Both are quiet beautiful. Simplicity and complexity are both good in music and should be appreciated for their own sake. Music is more than complexity or simplicity. It must be done with love. That is the highest mark of an artist.
To the sad little vvvroops fellow, umm i'm very sorry that you are not eveolved enough to appreciate the mastery of this piece but that does not give you right to criticize and ridicule it for others that are better equipped to appreciate it :-)...no offence.
vvvroops, a tabla player's skill is not determined only by the complexity of composition that he renders, furthermore i have heard and seen great tabla players, Ustd Zakir Hussain, Pt Swapan Chaudhari etc play very simple compositions, but play them beautifully nonetheless. Let us not begin criticizing other tabla players!!!
you wouldn't even be able to understand, the beauty of music, in this case table, lies not in how fast or how complex what you play is but rather how you take something simple and easy and exploit the subtleties to make it musical.
I jus love how pt ji say, "I am jus playing a little Kalavati" He is so nice and humble!!!! And well uncle dex's tabla was superb!!! ! I really had a great time at the concert!!!

Classical Indian music at its finest.
The violin composition is so sweet and beautiful.
And I've seen Dexter play a million times and he never fails to AMAZE me.
You can tell how much he loves his instrument.
I hope I can play as well as him someday.

@vvvroops A real artist is one who can make simple compositions( in your view) look sweeter. There is no composition in tabla which is "simple".
