  • love the quality supercruiser. love the quality

  • Thank god for Double Dare, because without Nickelodeon...Marc wouldn't be hosting this for a brief moment.

Unless this was from 1989...Couch Potatoes with him & Joe "Plucky Duck" Alaskey.

  • toasters are the new video camera's these days!

  • Cool. Man I love Scrabble!

For anyone who cares...just discovered a neat App on the App Store that records and calculates each players' scores. More worthwhile than you might think!

    itunes.com/apps/scorecardforscrabble

  • The plunger comes out of there?

  • Why wasn't Jamie penalized for not getting "Piling"?

  • Y don't they show this great show on GSN???

  • Reg Grundy owns this show and Sale of the Century. GSN has never been able to get the rights to show the RG shows, which is a real shame.

    Scrabble and $ale ruled.

  • Actually FremantleMedia (who owns Mark Goodson Productions) owns Reg Grundy's shows, along with "Let's Make A Deal."

  • i was wondering the same thing

  • I agree!

  • Which game show(s) did Jamie Farr from M*A*S*H host?

  • Gong Show I do believe

  • No. Jamie Farr sub-hosted for Tom Kennedy on Wordplay in 1987, and hosted a pilot for NBC around the time this was taped. The show was set to air, but was pulled at the last minute.

  • lovely picture quality.

  • Comment removed

  • no. not at all. back in the days the substance was better in tv. the picture quality isn't as good but the substance was there. nowadays, there is HD but the material is up and down. o well, i guess it's a generational thing.

  • This game show host week gimmick works very well. It's a unique way to have a celebrity edition since it takes hosts out of their confort area while still in the same proximaty and switch shoes with their subjects for a period of time. Chuck clearly has that kind of uncomfort as displayed in the main game and seems like he doesn't want to be there. The rest of the emcees are doing okay. While game show host week is a good idea it is flawed in some part. I give it 4.5 stars for the critical flaw.

  • I'd like to see BOTH $ale of the Century AND Scrabble on GSN.

  • Wouldn't we all?

  • this is when game shows was fun and iteresting

  • There was at least one instance this week in which Marc hosted more than half of the show (happened when Chuck made it to the Bonus Sprint; that was posted by mtiller2006).

  • Good news! Scrabble and Sale of the Century's sister show, Time Machine is now seen on YouTube. Hoping to see more footages on YouTube soon. As well as on coming soon to GSN (Game Show Network) and to have updated versions for GSN too.

  • Go, Peter!

  • hay, chuck woolery rhymes with duck foolery

  • Chuck is two for two with those no letters, first it was "Mostel" in the end game, and now "rainwater in the competition portion of the show...is the fix in??? according to Jamie Farr...it is...LOL!!!

  • r.i.p. peter tomarken

  • Poor Chuck and this was HIS game!

  • At least Chuck started with a bang!

  • Chuck & Peter...do I see hatred...oh yeah.

PS. MARC SUMMERS IS THE SHIZZLE^^

  • i remember this from when they used to rerun it!!!

  • By the way, John Davidson hosted "Time Machine" a few years before he made his guest appearance on "Scrabble" Game Show Host Week.

  • Unrelated, but still on subject of NBC game shows. I vaguely recall "Your Number's Up" from late 1985 with now-deceased comedian Nipsey Russell as host. I saw it I think twice, and seemed very complicated. Does that show ring a bell to you?

  • Since we've been watching Scrabble and Sale of the Century from the 1980s, does anyone remember their sister show also from the 1980s, Time Machine. Does anyone or NBC have any video footages like Time Machine promos and clips of that show?

I remember that on NBC Daytime 1985 schedule.

    First, "Time Machine"

    Second, "Sale of the Century"

    Third, "Wheel of Fortune"

    Fourth, "Scrabble"

    Fifth, "Super Password"

  • I vaguely recall "Time Machine" from 1985, but I never saw it. I was in school when it aired, and I didn't quite have a VCR LOL. SOTC I got to see, esp. in reruns on USA in the 90's...and Scrabble, same thing. Not seen Super PW, but the original with Allen Ludden in B&W ROCKED! Besides, didn't the late Bert Convy host Super PW? (As well as Win, Lose or Draw before Vicki Lawrence took over?)

  • Win, Lose or Draw was an odd situation. Vicki Lawrence hosted the daytime version while Bert Convy hosted at night.

  • Is that guy's head made of wax?

  • actually, i think its that stuff they make fake boobs outof.

  • this was the best Scrabble game show host

week but I never watched it at the time

  • Great video, very nostalgic. GO to my profile to check out my new video "The Scrabble Song"

  • no thanks.

  • That game show was one of my top 3 favorites of all time, along with Press Your Luck, and of course, The Price is Right

  • same here this my fav of all time along with press your luck and price is right as well

  • I just love Jamie Farr, he was great on MASH, but on this episode, he was GOLD...LOL

  • He was going to do a game show for Reg Grundy (called "Double Up", I think) but it never worked out.

  • I hope GSN includes this game show on their schedule. However, Fremantle Media owns the rights to the show and GSN doesn't have the rights to this series, at least not just yet.

  • My comment is true. Check info at Wikipedia

  • What date did this episode air?

  • back when I was a kid, I got sick alot, and this was a high point of staying home--this, the price is right, and press your luck!! Thanks for posting!!

  • First off, not only did Marc Summers OWN'D on Nickelodeon's Double Dare, but he did a good job replace'n Chuck while he was against his own game of Scrabble. And secondly, I never thought I'd see just how subliminal state naming(preferably Minnesota & Pennsylvania) was used for Jamie Farr while he was against The Lord Of The Whammy himself.

  • WHAT????

  • I've never heard of piling as a stick in the mud, either. Jamie and I have something in common.

  • Man, I used to LOVE this show when I was a kid. I just made a Scrabble cartoon myself. It's called "Triple Word War" if you wanna check it out.

  • If Marc Summers was guest hosting on SCRABBLE, shouldn't they have also brought in Harvey to guest announce? haha

  • Him & Robin. There looked to be something between the both of them on Double Dare. She'd be to him like that chick is to Monk, if ya catch my drift;)

Now do you see what Harvey looks like?...MAN HE REALLY GOT BIG...yet I like his Purple Chucks that he sports on The Learning Channel.

  • So. on the 2nd one about athletic supporters: ***Ring-in*** OAKLAND!

  • holy shit, Marc DOESN'T age!! :)

  • His hair kinda does

  • I guess be'n OCD can make a person age less with good hygene. Be it water is his reason for cleaning himself after every ounce of Slime, Pie, Gak, Fudge, & whatnot on Double Dare. But compared to now...No mess, but lots to "Unwrap". J/K & No Diss'n, Marc Summers IS 4EVER!!!:)

  • Jamie Farr did some Hot Potato!

  • Post the full episode of this special.

  • Does Marc summers ever age??? he looks exactly the same now as he did 20-30 years ago!

  • HA! Peter wanted to whack Jamie with the plunger at the end. :p

  • Um, maybe I missed something, but since when was Jamie Farr a game show host?

  • Jamie Farr was working on a pilot that fell through at the time. The closest he got was inexplicably subbing for Tom Kennedy on the short-lived Wordplay in 1987.

  • That pilot was for Reg Grundy, the guy that produced this show.

  • Showoff

  • I'm surprised that Marc did not challenge anyone to take the physical challenge (double dare) or Peter being interupted by Whammies (press your luck)

  • I think Chuck actually had to throw this round because how would he play the Sprint knowing all the words. It'd be cheating.

  • No, I think he handed the helm to Marc for the Sprint round before he played the second crossword

  • This brought back some fond memories. Thanks for posting.

  • RIP Peter Tomarken.

  • This was a great show. Peter Tomarken was very funny on this show (God Rest His Soul). This was actually the first time I ever saw Marc Summers. I didn't know he was at first. I didn't see "Double Dare" until it aired in syndication. I was actually wondering why Jamie Farr was on there as well. He only hosted "Wordplay" (Hosted by Tom Kennedy) just one day and he's a GS legend? Anyway, this was a great show and I thank you for posting this cool video.

  • My brother wanted me to find this out for him: does anyone know if Peter Tomarken and Marc Summers were ever shown together onscreen?

  • I used to watch this when I was little. I believe it came on around 11am. Classic!

  • Jamie Farr was a tv game show host???

  • He did host for one episode on one show, but I completly forgot what the name of that show was, but yes he did host.

  • Well, Milton Bradley is now owned by Hasbro, so they would have to lease the rights off to Fremantle Media to revive the show again. (Fremantle Media owns all of the Reg Grundy Library)

  • I love the announcer's name: Charlie Tuna!

  • nice work chuck

  • OMG. I loved this gameshow. I remember watching scramble as a kid. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

  • Can I see Chuck Woolery played the his own game please

  • Isn't there a clip when Chuck played the Sprint Round and the Bonus Sprint Round.

  • and he won $10K

  • So many good game shows then...it was the Golden Age.

  • Yeah, too bad those days are over.

  • You an't just whistlin' dixie, brother! Game shows just ain't what they used to be...sad. Sure, you didn't have the plethora of million-dollar shows back then, but something's just "missing" from shows today...

  • yea, people actualy winning said millions

  • It's cool that Marc Summers from Double Dare hosted Scrabble when Chuck Woolery was a contestent.

  • If scrabble ever comes back i'd like to see Marc or Chuck host it

  • If chuch is not busy with his 3rd word game show - GSN'S lingo

  • We need more game shows with Marc Summers

  • I sure wish GSN didn't cancel "WinTuition" with Summers as host. I know they re-ran it into the ground in 2003, but couldn't they have just made more episodes? Playing for college money is very uplifting.

  • Since Bob Barker is retiring from The Price Is Right sometime soon, I've been thinking that either Mark Summers or Chuck Woolery would be a great replacement for The Price Is Right.

As for Scrabble, I'd like to see this show back on TV. If they broght a new version of P.Y.L. and Pyramid, why not a new version of Scrabble?

  • I am 100% in agreement with you on this one, but shouldn't this question be posed to milton bradly since they make scrabble?

  • It's happened on Challenge TV in the UK. They made loads of TV Scrabble episodes.

  • I wonder if, since Marc hosted Scrabble, why did Chuck not subhost for Marc in the Super Sloppy Double Dare Marc vs Harvey special.

  • What a name...Charlie Tuna. I wonder if he now sells Starkist. :)

  • no i do not think so there are 2 different names but the same one for tv this guy name is spelt different.

  • do you have any half hour episodes of scrabble if you do please post on you tube.

  • Or any clips whatsoever?

  • I never knew Peter Tomarken died. RIP!

  • I wish they'd bring back the old episodes of Scrabble on TV. They did bring back Press Your Luck, but the new version is not the same.

  • This is so funny I miss scrabble and Peter tomarken.

  • Two of them lost to Jamie Farr. That's sad. I don't want to see my host-heroes lose!

  • Other than LINGO, SCRABBLE was Chuck Woolery's greatest game show and one of the best of the 80s. He was a great host, a great show (that is missed and hopefully someday will be back on the air) and this clip was great.

If you guys like to play this Scrabble game, you should check out my downloads website and download a JAVA version of it for FREE:

    R.I.P. Peter Tomarken.

  • I downloaded Scrabble from your site when I heard about it at bigjonpcgames.com. You have done an excellent job at it. Hopefully GSN will someday buy the rights to the Reg Grundy tapes so they can start airing the show. This was Chuck Woolery's best in my opinion, even if Love Connection lasted four years longer.

  • I'm sorry about ur site, I hope your sites returns.

  • Indeed, Peter Tomarken will be sadly missed. I saw the Press Your Luck marathon Sunday as well as the Michael Larson episodes as part of Big Bucks: The Press Your Luck Scandal.

And a happy belated birthday to Chuck Woolery, who had his 65th birthday on Thursday! :D

  • REST IN PIECE PETER

  • Scrabble was the BEST game show adaptation of a popular board game, and one of my favorite game shows!!! This clip had me laughing for hours. And it's clips like this that reminds me how much I miss the show. Someone bring it back plz!

  • To whoever posted this...THANK YOU!!! I watched this show religiously as a kid and this brings back great memories. Thanks for sharing! :)
