  • Ugh the hitting! It's so damn good!! Oh I long for a final with this quality again!!!

  • what awful quality!

  • is that Venus and serena's Brother at 1:24 if so wow never knew they had one.. ive herd the rumors tho but thats the first time seeing him, im suprised nobody else picked that up

  • @nikerep13 i know right? who knew? lol

  • So Venus won 35 matches in a row, including two slams, and she didn't end 2000 ranked number 1? Someone explain that one to me please.

  • @sharapovaman375 it was unbelievable to me as well. As Venus (and Serena) often play far less tournaments than the other players, they would typically play 12-14 tournaments the most in a single year, while someone like Hingis would play atleast 20 tournaments. Hingis was able to garner more points from the amount of tournaments she played as opposed to Venus who played relatively few tournaments. The points system rewards quantity over quality.

  • davenport is such a classy player!!

  • I love the echo of the arena....Nothing like hearing the ball on the strings...

  • And I agree.

After Davenport's knee and wrist surgeries at the end of 2001, she lost alot of her aggressive nature. She let her opponents run her around the court and take advantage of her slow speed.

Pre-2002 Davenport was SUCH a beast and basically a winner-machine.

She had a very brief return to top form during the summer of 2004 when she beat everyone who's anyone pretty decisively. But then she faded by the time she got to the Open.

  • No. Davenport/ Venus is the better rivalry and here's why:

    1. Serena/Sharapova have only met 7 times. And Serena's won the last 4, meaning Sharapova hasn't beater her in almost 5 years. Hardly a rivalry.

    2. Davenport/Venus have met 27 times, 12 of those being finals. And Davenport won it 14-13.

Definitely the best women's rivalry since Navratilova/Evert.

If there's any rivalry that's close it's Serena/Venus, which has really started to heat up in the past year and a half or so.

  • @jproxursoxoff Excellent comment. I totally co-sign but feel its a shame that this rivalry never got its due like the Navr/Evert rivalry. Yeah, V/Serena is a close second. Lindsay/Martina Hingis was a good one, though slept on. Lindsay/Serena wasn't too bad either but not as hot as the one with Venus.

  • wow venus! look at the speed she had.

  • Tehy should had made the court different, you can't see the ball

  • u r right, cnt see the ball

  • I don't know if anyone else notices, but Lindsay definitely had more racquet speed on both shots back then, especially on the forehand. Also, in this match, she was inside the baseline the whole match, even against the huge shots of Venus. I feel like in later years, she did not do this as effectively. Anyone agree?

  • I think that Lindsay was adapting to a very fast court which the linz one it is

  • Pre-knee injury Lindsay moves pretty well.

  • Great point at 7:52

  • Unbelievable hitting by both players. This is the hardest hitting matchup I can think of in the women's game.

  • I agree, Serena vs. Maria is up there also.

  • Definitely

  • but those two players don't hit the ball as hard as these two lindsay and venus hi through the ball more than serena and maria but they are up there as well.

  • Serena vs. Venus.
