@sutaren You are right. Sephardic Jews have the oldest Jewish tradition and culture still preserved. Also, they look like the Jews 3500 yrs ago with light brown and olive skin. I'm a Sephardic Jew and in America people are surprised to see a light brown skin Jew like me. WHAT? Yes, because many Jews here are ashkanazi Jews. But this turkic kazar story is BS. Many Jew haters say ALL ashkanazi have converted from kazars. NOT ALL. Many Jews came from mid east and intermarried. DNA shows 50%.
@sutaren it s not impressing cuz the torah was the first book, ppl shud not be suprised that there r obviously so many jews from different cultures. u shud read about african history, nubians/abbyssinians were among the first cultures to follow judaism.
The people in this vid are most likely Falash Mora, descendants of Jews who converted to Christianity in the past few centuries. Many of them are now returning to Judaism and immigrating to Israel, but probably a good proportion of those who do so are only doing it to get out of Ethiopia. Many of the Beta Israel who never left Judaism want nothing to do with the Falash Mora. It is a complicated issue. I have no doubt some FalashMora sincerely want to be Jews, but many are also faking it.
Shalom from Memphis/&Orange County,CA . Last year I was very lucky to go to Israel with Temple Israel (Memphis,Tn) & Arza World & meet some Beta at Mevasaret Zion Absoption Center in 2007 & bring good karma & the music of Rick Recht playing live there. It was an awesome experience! Really sweet loving people. I would love to hear more about your journey! I wonder if it was the same group as you? We were there in June 2007,cool huh?
There they go, leaving behind their natural, God given birth identity for an artificial identity based upon religious communality. My heart bleeds for this people as they know nothing of what awaits them across the sea - discrimination, double standards, police brutality, and modernity. Taking a jew out of Ethiopia to live as an Israeli is similar to taking a fish out of water and expecting it to survive.
makes u think about the black americans got stripped of our culture we really dont know where we belong and only god knows its like he planned it this way
I was married to an Ethiopian whose mother was Beta israel. The longing of the Beta Israel has been so deep for so many thousands of years, and ow it has been fulfilled! We are seeing the miracles of the last days come to fruition before our very eyes! Baruch ha Shem!
So they have to sing ashkenazi/sephardi songs and take on their customs to be seen as true Jews? Very sad... They have an own Jewish heritage which shouldn't be watered down!
Wow - this was extremely moving and emotional for me to watch, but at the same time INCREDIBLE and I thank you for sharing the video with the entire community. This is what we need to see in order to feel where our $'s go (unfortunately)!!! Way to go - great shots and Joie's song was wonderful to listen to and again emotional!! Good luck!

One question, so these Beta Israel's are descendant of Jews/Cross breed between Jews and the local population?

Being Jewish is both about ethnicity and religion! how hard is that to undarstand??!!
theMorgue78 3 years ago 3
They are jews but not from israel.
Just like the ashkenaz.
I am half jewish myself. ( polish).
It must have been some big conversion some time.
probably some local king converted and the people followed.
Just like the kazar kingdom in Ukraine.
The sefards are probably most from Israel .
Its howerer impressing that they have stayed jewish for so long time.
