  • I used to play along to this song with my guitar. I had the actual Christy Minstrels songbook to this album. It was like I was a member of the band... somehow.

  • @mikeance

Thank you for checking these songs out...Friends, Lloyd.

  • Follow the Lincoln Gored!

Thank you for checking it out...Friends, Lloyd.

  • One dividend that folk music paid during the '60s was an appreciation of our nation's past. Since no one is learning history these days, that value is fast fading into its own past.

I agree!! and it is very sad! Thank you for checking this classic song out...Friends, Lloyd.

  • I love this song. I often do several New Christy Minstrels songs when I do shows at nursing homes. I do Preacher and the Bear, Springfield Fair, and Today.

Thank you for checking it out...Friends, Lloyd.

You are welcome...what a perfect time to record that song...with the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation having arrived, and the Civil Rights Bill being a year away, and all.

  • "Follow the Drinkin' Gourd"...the Big Dipper was the guide by night, for slaves using the Underground Railroad, on their way to the northern states and Canada. Muddy road to freedom indeed!

  • @ctomarctus

That is interesting!, I did not know what the song was referring to, thank you!...friends, Lloyd.

  • Can anyone point me to "A Company of Cowards" featured in the movie "Advance to the Rear?"

  • I agree! This is music of the common man and it's a crying shame that it's sound is growing dimmer with every passing year.

  • @Theallis1961

Thank you for checking out this classic LP!!, I hope it stays fresh and alive for all generations to come!...friends, Lloyd.

  • This song has gotten me through some lonely nights a way out west....

  • Great stuff!

  • Thank you for comments on both songs by this group. I always enjoyed the 1960's folk era of music, and much of it is getting swept under the rug in today's current music environment.

  • @lrh1966 I agree! This is the music of the common people and it's a crying shame that it's voice gets dimmer and dimmer with each passing year. I wouls love to see the young people in this world following this tradition.
