@peymaania Your comment shows your ignorance of the middle-ages - How do you think was it possible for the generations of enlightened scholars to follow to actually retrace the thoughts of the ancient Greek philosophers? You do not honestly believe that the original works of the ancient times survived? All our knowledge on the ancient philosophers comes from the medieval monks, which preserved this knowledge in their volominous libraries, in the tradition of the Carolingian Renaissance.
@Inklings22 You're welcome. Yeah--it's very shortsighted to single out one group and heap scorn on them. People of every religious, philosophical, and political persuasion have been all too eager to put stuff that offends them to the torch.
@Inklings22 There's an article at Wikipedia. "List of book burning incidents." Nazis, Muslims, Christians, Jews, Confucians...historically, book-burning is an equal opportunity sort of occurence, from B.C. to the 21 century.
@PHANTOMZ0NE this always reminds me of the series Brother Cadfael. you should check it out if you enjoyed this. the books were written by Peter Ellis, 13 of which were set to video
@Inklings22 christianitty burned more books than anybody has ever done, and you must remember that the medievel age started precisly when christians burnt the alexandria library.
@SlimzProductionz It's not totally clear who destroyed the library or when it was destroyed- the "library" refers to the collection of books, not the building containing them. The books could have been destroyed by Christians, Muslims, or even Julius Caesar; or various portions could have been lost or dispersed over time. When new regimes or religions come into existence they often destroy the works and literature of the previous order; this has happened everywhere throughout history.
The version I recorded of the BBC when I was a kid was missing the scenes where Adso spies on the peasant girl in her hut, and Ubertino is smuggled out in a barrel, prophesying.

book burning is only a crime when you're burning something constructive. just because somethings written down on paper doesn't make it sacred.

@elenore88
And who is the judge that decides what is sacred or not?
VicariousReality7 1 month ago
@VicariousReality7 You?
Then what isn't. Is everything you write sacred? You're avoiding the point deliberately.

@elenore88
The point being that you will decide what other people call sacred?

Salvatore the Hunchback is most sanest monk in this movie though he's obsessed with gypsy girls, chickens, and eating rats.
