Making no claims or comparisons...only similarities...like Donny...I was born in St. Louis....Donny was a Libra, born in October....as am I, just a very few years later. One of the disappointments of my life.....as an undergrad at Fisk.......1974....Donny was appearing on our campus....my GF at the time had tickets to go......the concert was on Saturday.....the prior Monday I got sick and was admitted to Meharry....I did not get to attend....life goes on!

What made Donny unique as a singer wasn't just the incredible warmth or smooth and effortless range of his voice. Still, those have been building blocks of study for many aspiring singers, myself included. What made him my favorite was the torment and emotion within the integrity and truth of his expression and tone. He was a legend even then. Too bad he didn't understand how much.

When I hear this song, I recall how when this album first came out in the early 70's my girlfriend of the time bought it for me and when she came over that evening we played it on my turntable and did a slow dance in the evening heat with the lights out before heading off to the bedroom to continue the dance. That was a great time to be young and in love and to have this music to listen to. They just don't write or perform song like this anymore and that is sad.
