There is simply no justification for it: 1) US and China are tremendous trading partners. 2) China has a trillion dollars invested in US assets. 3) In the nuclear age, such a war would be unwinable. 4) Conventional war is also out of the question. For what it is worth, I very strongly doubt there would be a war with US and China. There is simply no justification for it: 1) US and China are tremendous trading partners. 2) China has a trillion dollars invested in US assets. 3) In the nuclear age, such a war would be unwinable. 4) Conventional war is also out of the question. US knows from first hand experience in Korea and Vietnam that a land war in Asia is unwinable. 5) US has no designs on China and visa versa. Live and let live.
